how many people even know what i'm talking about i wonder. maybe even tho i thought it was cruel & inhuman treatment when i was a kid lol, there may be more kids treated the same way. every sunday on the way to church my dad would decide my face was dirty. now mind u our church wasn't but four blocks from our house. if my face was dirty when we got there it had to be dirty when we left home. anyway he would get out his hankerchief [men use to carry them every day] & wet it w/spit & scrub my face like i hadn't had it washed in a month. that use to make me sooooooo mad. did y'all ever have a spit bath????

LOL...The dreaded spit bath! I haven't had one but my poor cousin would get them all the time. Her mom almost drowned her..LOL..She would stand straight and still while looking at me out of the corner of her eye. I was quite the tomboy at a young age so they probably figured it wouldn't do me much good..better to just dip me in the nearest stream..

I don't think anyone has ever used a towel, but maybe a tissue, or if not just licked their fingers then scrubbed. I still do that I think myself with my fiance if he has something on his face.

I have never experienced spit-bath in my life, but (strange as it may appear) when I saw a women spit-washing her child I considered it a kind of caress and an essential part of motherly love. Since nobody did it to me I felt and still feel that I was not loved enough. And I still often feel the desire of being washed with female saliva.

Gee! I was imagining the same thing. How can one have a spit bath without using spit. No, I never had that in my life. I used my spit to make my video game controller a little smoother so that I can tap buttons repeateadly. My friend didn't like using my controller for that day!

Yep, had that done. My mom used to use her thumb. I never bothered with my kids. Give them about ten minutes and they are miraculously clean without touching them.

Unfortunately I did have to suffer through this experience as a child. Each time served as a reminder to clean my face before we left home. Once in a while I'd need another reminder.

And I bet that you could not or wopuld not dare to tell him not to do it! lol. My mother did it to me a few times and I too, hated it. Out would come the hanky and then she would spit and clean up whatever was on my face. How unsanitary they were - and yet we survivied! I think I was about 10 before I told her not to do it. I probably ran away after I had said it. Many thnaks for the memory!

My thing was my mother use to spit in a tissue that was for her nose and was probably used at one time or another for that in the past. She would spit on it and then put the spit in our hair to try to flatten a cowlick. Now, picture spit in your hair flattening your hair down half way with tissue in it and what ever else was on the tissue. I remember one time she did that and did not know that there was a piece of peppermint in it and I had peppermint stuck in my hair. The preacher pulled it out later that day when I shook his hand good-bye after the service. My mom said, "You know how kids are with candy!" To cover the fact that it was her and not me which she lead him to believe that put the candy in my hair. I was so embarrassed. After that day No More Spit Baths. I would run from her! Hello ANTIQUELADY! I never thought that there's something like that. I mean, oh my! Your dad did that? I never have spit bath because I think it's gross but well maybe it's one way of saying how much your dad loves you.

I didn't experience having a spit bath, thank goodness... :) I also bring wet wipes in my bag whenever we go out. In your case, on the good side, your dad would want that you'd look and feel clean, maybe he just doesn't realize that he did not do it the right way, coz what he thought, that is the right way...
