Please don't spam me

I now have an ex-friend. He wasn't a very good friend because he spammed me by sending me a PM extolling the virtues of some "make money" site which he wanted me to sign up to - under him of course. I appreciate that we all like to earn a little. But I think that my line on spamming is clear. Please don't do it. Send me messages of undying love, or that you like my shirt, but am I sure that tie goes with it? Tell me how you are getting on, ask me to go out and help someone in trouble. But please don't send me referral links unless I ask for them. I promise that I won't send any to you either. Sorry to be pompous, but they really irritate me. Do you send or receive these links?

Hiya p1kef1sh,
I try my very very best not to spam BUT unfortunately my network does seem to send out emails that I'm unaware of and because it does this, rarely now (I hope) but at the beginning it got me into a lot of trouble for it's excessive email notifications, even on here once someone put a discussion on naming and shaming my network for spamming, been as I was unaware of this I was quite upset but it brought it to my attention and since then I've sorted it. Been a network owner I do get loads of emails asking me to sign to networks I just hit delete this is after I make sure I'm unsubscribe from their mailing list.
On a normal level no I don't spam if I send an invitation out it's because I've signed to a network I think a friend may enjoy with me, but I don't send referral links I'm very aware how annoying it is, it drives me mad.
Also I know for sure Yahoo will sell your email address onto a list, a lot of these email sites do. I've signed to yahoo and before I've had chance to use the address or even give it to someone I've been spammed, the same with my hotmail address i never use it, don't even give it out and yet I recieve spam in it how ?...hmmm!

Hi mimimeow all I will say is if I have only just signed up to an email address and I instantly get spammed this leads me to believe I've been added onto that list somehow.
The network is my own and this was at the beginning, my network sent out email notifications because I was getting to grips with the features of my site so was reliant on members telling me if they were having any problems, now I'm very familiar with my sites settings this does not occur, also with time I have good communication with my members so they now know to approach me with any problems has I will always address and solve any issues.

scopio19, is it really true that hotmail & yahoo sell our email addresses? I've never received any spam on my hotmail and I've been using hotmail for years now. I am still happy with it.
Btw, what kind of network you are using which will send out emails under your name without your notice? Are you infected or what? I'm just curious.

Yes, I do actually send them. "Becky hangs head in remorse" Sorry, I guess we don't think of the other person first. I will try to retain myself from sending referral links.I know we should only refer those who ask about it and want to learn more. Thanks for letting us know. Yes, I receive links all the time. Some I follow up with and check out and maybe even join but others I just go check out if it isn't my thing I don't join. Also I like to have proof a site has paid someone first before joining it. And might I add..you look dazzling today...

They irritate me too! I don't mind messages asking if I'm interested and a follow up with the links, but I too get irritated when people I don't know try to get me to join a site just so they can earn a little extra for the referral.
I don't send links either, unless I've asked if they are interested. If it annoys me then it would annoy my friends too.

As far as receiving, I mostly just ignore. As far as sending, only if I'm asked....

So I guess you don't want to buy a bridge either?
Yeah but seriously, if I get them from people I don't even know a little, I generally ignore the first one and if they keep coming, I hit the delete button. If it's somebody I know and who is OK with me, I will usually look at it and say yes or no. But I absolutely don't send them to people I know aren't interested and I don't just send stuff out to people I don't know either. And sometimes one hits me in the wrong mood too...

People do it all the time here. It is annoying sometimes. especially when they do it all the time. I wouldn't care if it was a regular mylotter, but if I don't know them it can be annoying they really don't know me or answer my discussions. thats what makes me mad. Have a nice day!

P1key,
I've been the recipient of a few of them (my first 'friend' here spammed me and was dropped within days!), but I don't answer them and drop them immediately like hotcakes! I don't spam either--if I find it offensive, I'm sure I'm not alone. I might mention my business on the side, but then that member must contact me for more information.
Besides, I'd post that you're just too sexy (Sparks told me!) and that I'd die without getting to meet you face-to-face!

Some things it is alright to be pompous about. I don't send those links. I do receive them. Like you, I have removed people from my friends list for sending them. I'm just not here at myLot for that reason. Some people may be and would appreciate a heads up about good programs out there. I am not one of those people.

I have been on the receiving end of make money on the internet links since I started using a computer.
Even the mylot link was sent to me.
Once I try a site out and see that I am making money doing it I will forward it on to friends that I know are interested in whatever sort of thing the site is promoting but I rarely if ever get any one to sign up under me for anything.

I only give one if asked but I never bring it up. I only do a few money sites and making tons from them is not important to me.
If I am spammed, I not only drop them as a friend, I report them to myLot. That is against their TOS.
I agree with you. I do not want to know. Most are bogus, anyway.

Although it wasn't quite the same thing; I once went to a site the I saw on someone's profile page. It offered free help etc etc - well of course it wasn't free, far from it. I didn't delete them as they hadn't sent it to me, but I did wonder if they were scammed or scammers?

I know how are you feeling and 99% of time i get mail it is about referral links or if someone says hi ( whom i dont know )then i am sure when i reply next mail would be about best money making site with link;;; i dont mind it .. this gives me an opportunity to look what is new in money making and if it gives happiness to someone sending me his links then i shouldn't deny it but i don't surrender my right to join or not or if i join i would join under him or someone else.

I never just email someone something like that. If I am close to the person, I call and ask first and if the answer is yes, then I send exactly one link. That is rude to just send the link and repeatedly without the consent of the other individual. You aren't being pompous in my opinion.

Not unless I'm asked. I hate people sending me links to sign up to sites without me actually asking for them and, as I try not to be a hypocrite, I won't send anything to others without their permission.
By the way, why are you wearing a tie with your jammies?

But Spam is Heaven in a can! This is one of my own pet hates as well. Actually there's one thing that annoys me even MORE than receiving PM's with referral links and that's people placing referral BANNERS in my friends comments section! I had one particular member replace their banner every time I deleted it. And this happened 3 times! Sorry Mr Banner Placer, but you were of course sent to the friendship graveyard never to return..... I have NEVER sent a referral link in this manner and never will.

I send them to family and friends but never to others that I've met online unless they ask for them or I ask them first.
