My youngest son has a book voucher and I can't wait to take him to a book shop to buy a new picture book. He is 22 months old at the moment. He likes turning the pages, seeing the pictures and hearing the story. When is a bit older I hope he will enjoy learning to read. He has quite a lot of his own books and he borrows books from our local library. Do your kids like books? If so which sort? Do your kids belong to your local library?

I have readers for kids. But we have all age groups and styles so we own a library thanks to loved ones and resale shops. The older kids have stocked up the young kids plus they get new. They read everything from the board books to chapter books. Josh likes the political type... 1982, Watership Down Cait likes the girl books.. babysitter and such Meagan likes dora and flip books Rowan reads .... all the kiddo books.

You are so lucky to have such a wide range of books. It is excellent that you have built up a home library with all the books you have been given and that you have purchased. Your children have good tastes in reading and books. The girlie books like Babysitter can hook children on books. It sounds like Rowan likes variety and Meagan has excitement with her reading. Josh must be very good at reading due all joy of books he has had at home. Cait sounds just like what I was like as a child.

A book club at your local library sounds excellent to me. It is superb when children belong to their local library. I am glad that your oldest child loves you to read to him before he goes to sleep. Then your middle child loves to hear the same story read to her. It is superb that your youngest likes the book too. My toddler son doesn't mind the same story again and again but I prefer some variety. He especially loves lift the flap books. When he was a baby he wanted to chew the pages but I wouldn't let him. My older child is a teenager and loves reading history books.

If your son likes to see the pictures and listens to your story telling then it is great. My son is a voracious reader and we gave him all sorts of books right from the beginning. My husband used to buy him picture comics after he crossed the building block and ladybird piture gazing stage and slowly he went on to Noddy, then Enid Blyton, Tell me why, then later to Agatha CHristie, PGWodehouse, and Alistair M, sHERLOCKhOLMES , and what not! He has a huge collection and he guards it possessively .Now, of course he reads other kinds too [Business and Finance, Philosophy, so on and so forth]. I used to enact picture stories and comics for him and my husband aslo used to tell him stories with a lot of gestures and dramatisations.I bound all his comics and made a huge fat volume which he has till date for the past 24 years or so.The way he used to listen spellbound is a memory that I would cherish forever.

All my kids loved books when they were younger - and two of my daughters still do. My other daughter hates fiction, but reads all kinds of reference books - and my 21yo son has only just started enjoying crime biographies. When my children were little, they loved 'Where the Wild Things Are', AA Milne poetry, Enid Blyton stories ... all kinds of things.

For some reason, kids always seem to like books. I think, as you say, the pictures attract them, and if you read them a bedtime story, they get curious and want to read themselves. Then when they do learn to read, they tell you the story before you get to tell it to them! ha ha ha. Brightest Blessings.

My husband bought our daughter a couple of book in China... and she loves them very much... she can't read yet... but she loves looking at the pictures... and making her own story about them... i have a couple of books of my own and my daughter can identify them... like my Harry Potter Collection... she loves looking at the cover...

Well I dont have any kids yet but I love books. I love to read any books with facts about things or places. I like to read the almanac or Ripleys Beleive it or Not.. I also like to read about other countries and cool traditions or cultures i know nothing about. There are some really neat things to learn through reading.
