Some one told me that Linux is virus - immune Windows. It won't be easily attacked by Virus while browsing the internet. It is better than Windows XP. Do you agree with that?

Linux is a very secure OS currently because most of the desktop PC's around the world have Windows on them.So viruses and worms for linux are very few in general.Ubuntu Linux is good OS which offers a free anti-virus solution on their online software repositories. You can download it!!

I think Linux is more secure than Windows. Most virus writers writes viruses for Windows because most people use Windows. Some people still use old version of Internet Explorer that are less secure. Ubuntu Linux comes with a Firefox browser, a secure and fast browser. Some experts advised to use Linux while doing online banking.

Linux is secure than Windows because of the file permission that implemented on Linux. In Linux when you log in as a normal user, you only have permission to write to your own home directory and not to system directory. And normally in Linux its not recommended to log in as a root (administrator). But it totally different for windows user who always log in as an administrator. But even if you log in as a normal user you still have permission to write to certain system directory.
But Linux is not totally immune to virus because it depend on the user. Because even if you are using Windows you will not infected with virus if you know what you are doing. I guess most Windows user got their system infected with virus because of their own action.

For Linux and Mac (BSD etc etc) there are almost no viruses or threats (other than newbies using their computer as root 24/7 lol)
The reasons are many, one is most likely because of the file permissions. You have a user account and as long as you do not have permissions to the rest of the computer only your user can get hurt. Which although can be a big hit if you use your computer a lot.
Secondly you get most your programs and source from trusted sources i.e. Ubuntu and Fedora. They all have checked and safe packages in their package managers and if by some reason there is a problem in one it will be fixed within hours since everyone can help fix it. That's the beauty of open source. Like with Vista, how long did you have to wait for SP1? Felt like forever :)
I've used Linux for almost 10 years now and I have never ever encountered a virus, malware, spyware of any kind. And I tell you, I have surfed places I shouldn't have been with a windows computer. So technically I will say that Linux is virus free, but of course there *ARE* viruses. Or more so "malicious written source."
Same goes for mac, there's one or two viruses that are active and dangerous now. But you never hear anyone getting attacked by them because unlike windows programs don't really "just start" because your OS didn't know better.
Good luck! :D

there are viruses for everything.Since so many computers have windows, they are probably a bigger target.I find the biggest virus protection is dialup internet connection. It takes at least 15 minutes or more to even get a virus downloaded. Hey, you can learn patience as well!

linux is bit sophisticated but there are many virus, worms, trojans for linux there is even cross compatible windows linux virus named w32/winux.. antivirus is recommended in linux systems which is connected to network.. as virus might spread from MS systems and linux user might not even know .

I think not. It is just the virus that are common nowadays are compatible to windows only not to linux. Every time a virus for windows attack a linux operating system will not do any effect in the windows operating system because it was built for windows.
