Nowdays, many students choose to go abroad for further study. I'm learning english in a college in China. Years later, I will say goodbye to my college life. Some people suggest that I go abroad for further study in an english-speaking country. It will help a lot. However, it costs a lot of money. What do you think of going abroad for further study? Do you have this kind of experiences? Could you share your opinion or experiences with me? Thank you very much.

Hi younger
It's actually a good idea, if you have the money. You can learn very much in the classroom but you can learn much much more in an English speaking country. Of course, the best place to learn English is in England! If you live in an English environment, then you would learn more quickly and you would also learn a different kind of English.
At the moment, you are learning English grammar but if you came to England to live and learn, you would find a very different kind of English spoken.
Some years ago, I was learning Chinese Mandarin and after learning for a year, I went to China. (Shanghai) I was very confident with my Chinese language but when I was there, I couldn't understand a word they said to me....hahaha!
I think you would find the same in England but you would get used to it and learn very much. I hope you can have the chance... :-)

Thank you for your advice.
In China, every place has its dialict. People like to speak in their own dialect in daily life. The official language is Chinese Mandarin.Shanghai is a big city in China, local people like communicating in Shanghai dialect. Even a Chinese from other places cannot understand the shanghai dialect. Now younger genneration usually can speak Chinese Madarin very well because we learn to speak it since 8 years old in primary school.People whose age is above 40 or elder might not good at speaking Chinese Manderin. That's why you could not understand a word. I think you can still be confident with you Chinese. If you went to Beijing, things will be different.Chinese Mandarin in basicly build on Beijing dialect.

I learn more each day! Thanks for your explanation Younger. Now I don't feel so bad:-) Actually I think the Chinese language is a beautiful language to listen to. I love listening to the music of Vicki Zhao Wei. She has a beautiful voice and you can hear her pronunciation very well in her songs. Have a good day!

Am actually a student in England. I have no problem understanding the English spoken by the people from South of England. But as I travel to the North or in fact starting from Manchester and Liverpool area, the English become harder to catch. Scottish English is even harder to catch. Irish is not so bad though. Maybe it is due to their slang.

If you get admission in good university then it is good otherwise your country is also good for studying because going abroad requires lots of money.

Hi, if your family has the money, why not? You can experience different culture, different education system and different expectation. Besides that, I think western education system especially UK, US and some Europe country like Germany, Switzerland is better than most of the education system in Asia country. They expected students to find out themselves instead of giving them everything and ask them to memorise that for the exam, and the course is organised so that it is up to date with what is happening in the industry and that field. And by going abroad, you can increase you employment opportunity.
Anyway, the factor of anyone to success is not how intelligent you are, is not how well you can memorise for the exam, is not how hardworking you are in doing routine work (reading lecture notes and textbook), it is about your mentality and how well can you understand what is opportunity and how well you can take it.

wow, how to say it? i think going abroad for further study is very good. but if your family can't afford it.i think you can stay and learn things on your own. some succeed men they didn't go to abroad and they have their own carrer.the most important thing is working hard.
