How much is your time worth

Everyday I potter down to myLot and read about the excitement that people feel when they find a new PTC site that pays 2 cents a click. Or how they made a dollar in a day typing responses to discussions. I am guilty of this too. However, if someone was to come to you and ask "what's your time worth?" what would it be. A dollar a day? A dollar an hour? A dollar a minute or perhaps a dollar a second? (Or the equivalent in your own currently). When I worked I earned as much in half an hour as I do in a month here - and I'm not on the minimum payout. I don't come here for the money - but I did once. I still feel mildly elated though when I've chalked up another dollar on her. Why should that be?

You still feel elated because each penny, nickle, dollar.... means you have created another thought, smile, giggle, fume, flirty eye-bat.... It means you've given and received in return. You've touched some one, some where.
You've got southern Michigan a time or two for sure.

Time is money dear and it's stupid to spend time without money, even that was a little money; tell me where I can get better money and I shall go; IO think if Mylot do not pay people, ther will not be too much mylotters!

Earning on sites like this is an achievement, albeit a very small one. I know some people from, I suppose they would be developing countries, can make enough money to live on through this so that would be very good. I don't make a lot but I do like to have it. If I were to spend the same amount of time doing an actual job though, I would want at least minimum wage and, if I wrote good articles for Helium, they might take me 2 hours to write but even a $30 article works out to a higher hourly rate than I get at work. It's just a shame I can't always write!
Anyway, what was the question? I think it's the same as, for example, when you win a fiver on the lottery after spending £2 on tickets. Really, you've only made £3 and you know you can't buy a lot with that but it's just that you've got it. I suppose that's the same with myLot and things only this is better because you know you've earned it.

It's a good thing it ain't about the money then! I'm in the same boat as your example in that at my job, I earn in much less than an hour what I make on this site in a month, but I'm certainly not equating my participation here to money! All I do take notice of is reaching the minimum payout each month and I just let it all build-up. Maybe one day it will amount to something worthwhile! Currently I just use it to buy Skype credits anyway. I'm here for so many positive non-financial angles that it would take me a long time to cover them all! But friendship, intellectual stimulation, humour and escapism are some of the top reasons.

I use mine for the same purpose, plus the odd E Bay purchase and my daughter's bus ticket home last weekend! I try to pay for things in dollars as PayPal's conversion rate from $ to £ is heart stoppingly awful! In the main though, I come here to break the drudgery of cleaning, gardening and generally being unproductive to the economy!

My time is worth only as much as someone is willing to pay me. Right now that is exactly $0 in the real world. MyLot is the only place I work for pennies, though. Surveys pay me an average of $4 an hour and my writing pays me about that much or a little more.
When I was working, I was usually paid $10-12 an hour. And I think that you, dear P1ke, are worth at LEAST a nickel per hour!

Good morning p1kef1sh,
Firstly what a good discussion and really made me think on a Sunday morning, I won't go into detail here and I know you know the history to what I'm now going to say but I've recently had to seriously sit and put a price on what I do, as your aware and it's been so hard to do. I'm a web designer but I've never charged a fee I've always through my network given advice, knowledge and done a lot for my members for free and it's naturally progressed now so I design professionally because I get so many requests to design profile pages, frontpages and now it's moved on to designing and setting up a whole site for some network creators, so what is my time worth?..I don't know..lol..but if you really want to know I'II let you in on it via our other way of communicating..lol

I guess then my time isn't worth much since lately all I make is less then .58¢ a day. I am hoping that will go up. When I was working(before I became unable to work) I was making $8 an hour and if I worked overtime I got time and a half. I still get elated when I make cashout or make over $.60¢ on here..But as times get harder it is the people here who keep me here. And it is always good to be able ot make cashout for the month so that I can tell my husband that I am not just wasting my time gabbing ot people.

Oh I don't know, it's a challenge. I come here and to Yuwie because I enjoy it and not because of the $5 or $10 every so often. It just isn't enough to be worth my time if I were here for the money. But it is somehow a challenge to see if I can make it every month here or better my numbers there. But I wouldn't even bother if I wasn't having fun and enjoying the people I'm meeting.

I think that many of us feel the same way Dawn. I usually do make it every month and without too much effort. But there have been times this year when I've swung into myLot and swung straight out again. I guess that it gets us all like that occasionally.

I used to earn considerably more in my 'proper' job than I do here on myLot or the other bits and bobs I do on the net. But somehow the emails saying that I've received a payment still get me all excited, far more so than receiving my monthly paycheque in my previous life ever did.
I guess I think of internet earnings as 'free' money, money earnt for doing something that isn't really work..

I like to think my time is worth more than what i'm paid at work (or i wouldnt be asking for a raise!) but honestly if i was here for the money not the people and the discussions i wouldnt be here at all because it does take alot of time online to make anything.

It's a good question. I have also reasoned that getting (a maximum) of a dollar a day is pretty poor as a money-making scheme. Yes, we could be earning much more with most jobs, even working part-time. My time is worth more than $1 per day, but I'm compensated with more than monetary gain when I'm on myLot, and money isn't the main reason I come here.
I'm here more for the non-monetary benefits; interesting discussions, making friends, getting advice, and getting things of my chest! I can't really put a price on those things, and I can't really put a price on my time; how would I work it out? What I was paid in my last job? What I think I should be paid for chatting to people? Who am I to say!!
I obviously think that myLot gives me what I'm worth (in terms of monetary plus non-monetary benefits) - we all do, otherwise we wouldn't be here!

My time on myLot is worth nothing, because I've never bothered looking at the earnings thingie and don't have PayPal anyway - but boy oh boy, I'm sure my cooking, cleaning and bedmaking skills are legion, and worth far more than my poor old lad could afford! Just as well I'm happy doing all that for nothing - and just as well I'm in charge of the housekeeping money and can keep myself in the manner to which I've become accustomed!

Hmmmm, good question. I really don't know. When I was working I made more in an hour then I make in 2 months here on Mylot. I am at the minimum payout and lately have not been making payout but every other month.

That's true. Unfortunately, I need every penny that I can get. That makes it income for me.

If you go to a carnival or fair, play a game and win a stuffed animal, you're thrilled with it...even if you really don't need it. I think it's like that here when you get the dollar, or reach payout. You're getting something extra for doing what you find to be fun, even if you really don't need it. Let's face it. Do you get milk, cookies and hugs at work?

hi, i am not aware of how much my time is worth on here cause i never check. i have been here quite a time now, but only have ade payout once and i don't really care. i just enjoy exchanging views and opinions with you guys and it is what makes me happy. being in constant contact with you, my friends on here. so i never check on how much i am making but i don't deny that i was very happy when i made my first payout. have a good day.

Hey p1key! You know when you put it that way it sure does
sound so pathetic! When I was working I can't even believe
the difference in what I was making then to what I make here
now! I don't even make a dollar a day here now! I can't even
make the comparison because it is so ridiculous, but yet
I get so excited to make whatever I do make here because this
at the moment is my only job! So how pathetic has my life
gotten? The difference is really that to me this is not a job!
This is being with my friends and it is fun! The money is
really nothing and I know it even though I do need it to help
with some bills! Part of me wishes that I could make more,
but the other part just wants to be here to have fun and not
even think about the pennies earned!

How much time do I have ? I would say all we have is time and sometimes it is not enough. So I would say my time is priceless just like everyone else’s but why do we spend our time on such sites earning pennies
I guess most of us are here for a bit of fun and a bit of a distraction from the day to day stuff and keep our minds of other things and when the pennies roll in it is always an extra surprise.
I wouldn't get out of bed for less than a $1 a day

How can we put a value on time? Time is precious that we can not really put a value on it. What makes my time worth it, is all the friends and nice people I have chatted too. Friendship is worth more than money itselt.
