this is my favorite movie. when i saw it, i was deeply moved especially when i saw the oppression women received during the fifties. the oppression was not physical or evident but it was seen in their restraint of freedom. i hated the idea of the time that the only purpose of women was the become wives to their future husbands. what do you think of the movie?

I think the word "oppression" can or can not be true. Part of me believes that those ideas are just something made up by angry feminists. women can enjoy being housewives, or submissive to their husbands as pointed out by the movie. It's a personal choice. It also bears asking if the "freedom" that we enjoy today, the freedom for women to be highly successful at the workplace comes at the social cost of neglected kids, latchkey kids, rebellious teenagers, once the central figure of the household becomes taken away from them. The movie Stepford wives also makes another point on society. I think though, that the movie was successful in pointing out that we should look beyond the image and what is apparent.
