I have a dog and two cats and all three of them lick...A lot! Even the cats show their love and affection with their tongues. I didn't mind so much especially when my dog did it; I figured it was her way of giving me kisses, how cute! Well that picture ended the day I decided to clean out the cat litter trays and one of them had an offending cat poop on it. Anyway, I put the trays outside with the intention of emptying them out, disinfecting them and hosing them out. I turned around for a split second and when I turned back the cat poop was gone and here was my beloved pooch licking her chops; she had eaten the cat s*#t! Yuk! I could not believe she did that and appeared to have enjoyed it; that was the end of her licking mum days I'm afraid because that was one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen!

When I was younger, I had watched a dog lick some one leg which had a wound on it. I commented on the dog licking this man's leg. He told me that it was good for the dog to lick the wound because there is something in the saliva that helps heals the wound. Not only that, the dog is also getting the salt from the human skin. With all this, I know that a dog's lick is good but I have never allowed any dog to lick me.

Yes you are right about dog licking wounds as it would heal it up quickly. in old India before invention of antibiotics, patients with skin infections, wounds would get them licked and they got better soon.

Hi there, I do allow my pet to lick, but I do tell him when he start doing it to much. Whenever i come back from office, he will just running towards me and start sniffing my legs and hands to see i have something for him. If nothing is there, then he will start jumping at me to let me know that i have forgotten to bring something for him. :-). He is a very naughty and lovely dog

I don't like my dogs licking me in the face and have taught them not to do that. They do like to lick my hands and feet and I don't mind that. Whenever I get out of the shower and put lotion on, they want to lick it off. Yuck! How can that taste good?

I dont have a problem with my dog licking me whether it be on the hands, legs or such but I won't allow her to lick me in the face or the mouth. And I make sure that the kids don't allow her to do it either..I have heard that both cats and dogs can heal a wound by licking it but I have never allowed her to do this. It is just I have seen some of the things she does and outs in her mouth and I rather not have her near my face..if it is just my hands or such I can wash those before I were to touch my mouth.

My dog licks me and my whole family. It's really not that unhygenic. Dogs have something in their saliva that kills all the bacteria in their mouths. It has been said that their mouths are actually cleaner than a human's mouth. I don't know if this is entirely true, but it seems pretty accurate. I wouldn't let him lick me if he had just finished eating a raw animal or something, but after a few hours it would be fine.

yes you are right about dogs mouth being cleaner than humans and their saliva has healing properties, i know in india before the advent of antibiotics and all this , people would get their boils or other infected skin licked by dogs and they did get cured.

Nope, I don't allow my dog to lick any part of my body.. But sometimes I can't stop them from licking my hand and my feet.. I make sure that after I hold my dogs or when they lick me, I will wash afterwards so that the dirt that they have will not stay long in my body particularly my hands were I usually used to eat.. Well, I'm not saying that my dogs are dirty since I always make sure that everyday they take a bath but of course my dogs love to stay outside and play with other dogs so, there is really a possibility that they bring dirt when they get inside the house.. I can't always assure that they are clean because not all the time I'm at home watching them..

Liking is a normal response for a dog, but it's pretty easy to stop them, I just reach for their mouths and hold them lightly closed while I am petting and talking sweetly to them. They learn very soon not to lick me.

Hi there agrim94 I don't like pets to lick me at all. I might just let a dog lick my hand or something because that can easily be washed and they are only doing what comes naturally to them!\

I dont have a dog but i dont mind if i had one. I know my best friend has a female Alsatian dog and she would lick me many a times and i like it. I know she licked face of my friends when she wants her to get up in the morning earlier than her sleeping time because of her urgent requirement of going out. I feel dogs licking you show they are submissive to you and one way of show their love to you and their acceptance of your dominance over them.

Not on the face but yes to the arms, and legs, neck. Dogs mouth is cleaner then a humans, and their saliva has a healing agent in it. I worked as a vet tech, and I learned how healing their saliva really is, and how they mouths are ten times more cleaner then our mouths.

I know they are very clean and before the invention of antibiotics people would get their skin infected wounds/boils liked by dogs and they would be treated.. so dog has antibiotics in saliva

As much as possible I don't want my pets to lick me. FOrtunately, my dog doesn't (know) how to lick and my rabbit doesn't lick. I won't let them anyway.

Actually a dog licking open wounds is a good thing. They have a healing a healing agent in their saliva. I just can not think right now what it is. I am glad when one of my babies licks my wound and I encourage it. I tell them, "thank you for taking good care of mommy".

Hey there! Yeah, I do allow our dog to lick me. I allow chip-chip, our dog, to lick my palm. It feels good too. The dog also likes it. Of course after that I wash my hands. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

I allow my cats to lick me, but I immediately wash that spot with soap afterward. I got one cat that loves to kiss but will clean her personals right after kissing you, so i make sure to have a bathroom near by but I still appreciate her affection (she gives hugs to and uses her paws to hold your faces and lay her face against yours).

No. I don't allow my pets to lick me. And that is because I don't like the feeling of being licked. Happy MyLotting!
