What are your favorite scales to play out of? Why?
I personally like any minor scales because they sound sad and full of emotion if played correctly.

My favorite scale is by far the harmonic minor - it was the first minor scale I learned to play (way before those silly melodic minors), and it just sounds so freaking COOL! Especially the sixth and seventh tones.
I'm also a big fan of playing octave scales of any kind on the violin, just because it's a fantastically obnoxious way to show off.

Well, I don't know all the theory terms in English (I'm Swedish) but melodic minor and Phrygian are my two favourite scales to play :)
I also like the standard major scale a lot too, because I play mostly summer pop nowadays. I mean, it's almost summer ;))
