Any writers out there?

I have decided that the only way to realize my dream of being a writer is to JUST DO IT!! So I have started a novel. I can't tell you what it's about though. On the advice of several of my writing books, the more you tell you plot and story line to people, the less enthusiasm you retain for actually writing it. You kinda lose the passion. Anyway... I am wondering if there are any kindred spirits out there who are attempting to write, or who have had some success. I started a blog devoted to my new writing life, but I think I will change bloggers soon. But for now, it's at http://www.new-novelist.blogspot.com Or if you have a different dream that you havebeen putting off and finally decided to GO FOR IT, put that here too.

I'm a writer. I've been writing for years...and yeah, I pretty much decided to JUST DO IT, after having played with the dream since I was younger. I don't tend to lose the passion, by talking about it, but then my stories have always been more or less independent of me than I'd like xD I've written several books by now, a handful of short stories, and I love living this dream so much I don't reckon life would be very awesome if I were prevented from it somehow. It's as necessary as breathing, now ^_^

Not a typo, a joke. ^_^ I've published once. It's not presently in distribution and I haven't published since after the loss of my editor...it kindof hit me really hard. I do intend to get back at that part of writing soon, but I just need a little more time to adjust and rethink how I do things. I've not done anything in nonfiction, as of yet. ^_^ all fiction.

Your profile says you are 8. I'm assuming that's a typo?? So have you had any published yet? Are the books you've written novels, or are some of them non-fiction as well?

I absolutely love writing as well... just for a different medium. For me I either want to go into broadcast or print journalism so I'm more into the whole news reporting or creating a visual that tells the story itself. Either way I know exactly what you mean by not letting everything out of the bag because it is those small details people find out on their own that keep them reading. Its kind of like if I told you the main point to my article, why would you finish reading it?

So are you interested in being a Freelance journalist, or do you want to be on staff at a newpaper or magazine?

Sounds like you are young enough that you are just getting started. I haven't looked at your profile to see how old you are. Have you taken Journalism in college or something? Sounds like a nice lucrative career. And in DC... I wish you all the luck in the world. I just wish I hadn't waited so long to go after my dream.

At the moment by goal is becoming one of the AP correspondents for DC. I've really gotten into politics and so its the primary thing that I want to write about which is why DC would be the best place for me. Plus, with AP I feel as if I have a more stable job because there are some print newspapers that are having to take out loans in order to keep the paper running because subscriptions are at a low.

I've always thought it would be "cool" to write a novel since I like reading so much. But, I think you have to be "obsessed" to be able to make yourself write long enough to finish a book. You need that compulsion to help you to the end. If it's just a neat idea, you probably wouldn't be able to finish, and that's where I fit in. I do like writing poetry though, and have written a good amount.

I never realized just how technical writing a novel is. I have read dozens of writing books, so I hope mine will turn out OK. But it definatly isn't going to be easy. I can see now why it usually takes a year to write one and how some people take longer. Tom Clancy's book "The Hunt for Red October" took like 10 years from first idea to finished product!!

I've always wanted to write, but never knew how to start. I do like writing poetry, though, and tend to do that off and on. I've never been "inspired" to write a book, and I think that "obsession" with the idea is necessary for you to be able to keep it up and not peter out.

Well first of all congrats on embarking on writing a novel My main problem is time. Honestly, I'm one of those people that need at least 60 hours in a day...that's what happens when you're a "Renaissance" person like me and is into everything..LOL I do spend a lot of time writing articles for places like Associated Content, but not really the same as writing fiction where the ideas literally come from one's imagination--isn't imagination wonderful? I actually have about three novels "in the works" each one actually does have about 100 pages in each one that I've written. The vast majority of ALL my novel work is handwritten...I had started most before I got a computer. So my "job" among other things is to type them into the computer. I do have a number of short stories written and a few were published. Now if someone could tell me just HOW to find time to really buckle down and write my fiction I'm all ears...need more TIME

I saw that you are now a follower of my blog!! Thanks a bunch!! So I'm curious, are you notified in any way when I post something? I have posted twice since you became a follower and I was wondering if it tells you. Anyway, it's exciting so see hw many people are writers. I hand write my stuff too, then a friend types it for me. Awesome set up since I really don't like to type. So get to work on your novels, I'd like to share a spot on a bookshelf with you one day.

Just a few minutes a day is all it takes. DO it when you climb into bed before the lights go out.

Sorry for giving you suggestions for a plot. but I thought if you were planning to sell it to the Tv for a Tv movie, it might work. I am writing a Christian fantasy novel, and I have written about how I write not what I write though, the whole process. I am on my seventh draft, and right now it is exciting. I have been writing for some time, but since i need money, have not been able to concentrate on my novel, ah novels. I have several ideas in the works. This one I plan to make a series, but I have to have enough money to mail out the manuscript when I find it, and find an agent. I do not know if you can give your blog url in a post. I think you have to refer us to your profile and enter the link there, like I did with mine.

7th draft! Wow, that's great!! I hope all goes well and I can find it in my local bookstore soon. How many more drafts do you think you want to do? Is this your first novel? How long have you been on it? Bee sure to concentrate on one project at a time, though. You siad you have several ideas in the works, but don't divide your passion. I'm kinda worried about the whole 'finding an agent' idea as well. But I have LOTS of books about that and about manuscript editing and submission. So I think I will be in good hands when the time comes. Good luck on your and keep me updated. It's exciting to find others out there who are doing that I am trying to do. Thanks for posting.

People think I am crazy for trying at my age! I'm 17 and I've started my own novel. Since I was about nine I've been writing poetry and short stories. Though I've never really understood plot development or the majour things to put in a short story, I wrote anyway. I write with freedom and determination. My novel will be excellent, and I'm following the rules of my heart, not of what's put in front of me. Good luck on your novel too, ChaJudLeoBit! :)

ChaJudLeoBit, You have a very good point there, especially regarding the telling people about the story/plot bit, never really looked at it that way exactly but I see what you mean. It's good that you have this attitude. I'm working on two novels right now, one's fictional and one's about my life story, both of them are ripe for lucrative book series franchises. Good luck, remember it's easier to do a novel and get in than it is to do a screenplay and get in. Plus you always have the option of turning your novel into a movie afterward anyway.

Congrats to you! I like meeting other writers. It's hard for me not to ask what your novel is about, but I have to heed my own advice. How far along are you? How long have you been working on it? Wanna look at my writing blog? I just decided on what I want to post next. http://www.new-novelist.blogspot.com Thanks for sharing
