Hey MyLotters, I need some advice. I 've been working for this great company for 9 months now. I started out a full-time employee and after 5 months had to go part-time because of the stress and because I was getting sick behind it. I've worked corporate before and have never felt this way about a *JOB*. I had my own buisness but do to fallen monies I had to go back to work. Now it's not the company, it's not the people...it's the *JOB* it self. It's mentally draining and customer service is the worst thing ever. Now we all at one point or another had to call for something and speak to a customer service rep. I can't remember ever being the way some of my customer's that call are. I literally have anxiety before having to go to work. Now some would say just get another job.. True but the way the economy is right now it's not gonna happen quick enough! I really just want to quit, I want to walk in there and say Im Done! But then reality kicks in,, my bills, my family etc etc,,, so.... **Do I stay even though Im having anxiety & crying before I have to go in, or do I keep my sanity and quit before I have a mental-breakdown and just do what I can to make the bills? Advice Would Be Greatly Appreciated! ;)

Dear NadiaAllStar, I have been there done that. There is nothing more frustrating than dreading the thought of goint to a "JOB". I felt like that at my last job. I would cry and be in such a bad mood, just thinking of having to go to work. I would start on Monday hoping that Friday would come quickly. On Sunday night my anxiety would start, I would become a changed person. I wanted to quit so bad, but because of the reasons you mentioned I couldn't. I was trying to find a job while I was still working there. One day I was called into HR, and was told that I was being laid off. The relief that overcame me was unbelievable, even though I knew that I needed the job. I am still unemployed, because the layoff happened at the worse possible time with the economy. I am really struggling now with my bills, but the stress of that job is GONE!!!!!! I would suggest to you, to continue with the job, because you really need it, and it may be really hard for you to get another one if you quit. Why don't you get a letter from you doctor and go on a leave because of the stress. That way you will be able to collect disablility, and in the meantime you can look for another job. It is not worth it to lose your health over a job, but now people do not have a choice because of the economy. I wish you a lot of luck, and hope that everything works out well for you.

Dear NadiaAllStar. I have also been there and done that. It sucks big time. I would suggest changing your thought pattern. Be happy that you have a job, be grateful that you are earning money to pay the bills. I used to work at a hotel and the boss was forever swearing and shouting at me. (bombastic idiot) I was totally depressed. Sunday nights I wouldn't even want to go to sleep, because when I wake up I'd have to go to work. Then one day I got hold of a movie that changed my life. I changed my thinking ways and you know what? I told that boss to shove it. (it felt soooo good) I now have the most wonderful job, the most wonderful boss, the most wonderful salary etc...etc... I am no longer depressed. Everything is just right. I wish you all the best my friend and also hope that it all works out for you.

Nadia, I understand completely how you feel. Let me share an experience that is very similar with you. In November 2007, I got a customer service/call center job at a very reputable cable company in the area that paid $13 per hour and provided all sorts of benefits if you stayed for 6 months such as free cable/phone/internet (!!!). Let me tell you It sucked BIG TIME! It was the job like you said, everything else was fine. But not only that, we only got to have a 30 min lunch and by the time you go out and get your lunch theres only 10 minutes left, plus they give you two 15 min paid breaks. The calls are very much monitored in a way that after you're done with one customer, you have like say ONE MINUTE or so to document the call and sometimes, depending on the call, it will take a bit longer to finish that up. Once the time is up, the next call AUTOMATICALLY comes in, its all controlled by a 'traffic' department. I found that very frustrating and felt like I had no "mental breathing room" between calls. So in January 2008 I got a temp job at a high end apartment building that had the potential to be perm. I left the cable place for this job. BIG MISTAKE and I'll tell you why in a minute. This new place though, I was looking to be a doorman but ended up stuck as maintenance in the basement, apparently there was some confusion and I didn't find out until it was too late. But thats not the biggest problem though, the problem was that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE at this job were all RATS!!! They will snitch on you for the smallest crap and it will get you in trouble. I felt so uncomfortable and depressed there I wanted to cry. One day I had a nose bleed from all the stress. So I left the job and started looking for different work. I was unemployed for two months and I regretted leaving the cable company. I found a full time job that was somewhat unstable and sucked and was a little out of my way but I was doing that for 3 months while taking an EMT course, once I graduated, I quit that job and started working as an EMT. I've been doing that for $11.50 per hour for almost a year now (I got a fifty cent raise after first 3 months). It's the most comfortable job I've had so far. I would stick it out if I were you and don't quit until you have another job to go to. You don't want to experience all that I've written above.

Nadia, lol it's funny that you mention that because I had a somewhat short and similar experience to that jealousy bit you described. It happened right before my cable job. I was a security guard making $9.85 per hour on the overnight shift, monday-friday at a midtown office building, all I had to do was sit at the lobby desk, i can bring dvd players and books. Meanwhile there was a freight elevator operator dude whom just say in the elevator all day taking workers to where they wanted to go. He was one of the cameras I had to watch, he would just sit there all day and sometimes have a dvd player too. You know how much he was getting paid? $30 per hour. That son of a b****, and hes practically doing the same as I was = nothing. I was as jealous as hell. If I was making that, I would feel like friggin Donald Trump so to speak.

I would stick with it until a new job finds me or I find it.. you are right the economy is bad at the moment and jobs are harder to find than they ever were... hang in there and remember, having work anxiety is a lot better than having "I can't pay my bills and eat" anxiety. best of luck which ever way you decide to go!

Hi nadia i know how you feel, but for me i think health is the most important than career. Health first before career. If you do not take care of your health, you won't be able to function well in your career and life very well. I know that we are in a crisis, if you do think that losing your job will have a huge impact on your family expenses etc or if you are the sole breadwinner i guess i think you have no choice but to stick with the job. But if you are in a position that you are not a breadwinner, and there's a stable amount of income that will be able to support your family even if you quit, i suggest that you quit. I know my advice might be contradicting the others but if you are no longer happy in your job to the point that you do not want to go into the office and wish it was already friday and etc. i think it's not healthy for you personally and career wise. I have been feeling the same thing in my job as well. I am not the bread winner though so i am thinking of quiting soon. I realize that i should not force myself to work on a job that is not making me feel happy or content. I know there is a crisis but there are still jobs out there. i just have to look hard on it. Anyway whatever you may decide good luck in everything!

Hi Nadia, you know i think you need to quit for that job because your health is suffering, you will find another job after all you have lots of work experience money can be earn but health is not, now you need to choose which of the two is more important to you, remember you have your family they can help you decide what is best for you. good luck and dont worry God will provide.

Been there, done that. A few years ago I also quit a job since it somehow falls into the category of customer service. I knew that I'm not made for it but I still try and now I'm quite determined and certain that it would be best to leave it to people bestowed with talents regarding customer service. I also learned from it that I should prioritize my health over money/job. When your health takes a toll on you, sometimes the effect is more than we expect. The situation your into could also do a lot for you. You'll learn to manage stress, value your health and have the chance to be a better person. The situation your into right now has reason, it is not just happening by chance though sometimes it is beyond our comprehension. The day will come that it will just be a memory, just remind yourself THIS TOO SHALL PASS. Weigh every factor for you to be able to make a correct decision. Just remember we should be responsible for every action we do.

I completely understand where you are coming from- been there done that. I was working at a call-center doing pre-sales for tech companies. I hated it. And what was worse was that it was cold-calls so I got hung up on alot. And I was so bored cause it was the same call day after day. I screwed it up and have been unemployed for 2 years. Don't quit until you have another job. Make a doctor's appointment and tell them what is going on. The doctor can give you something to help with the stress.

I completely understand how you feel. My job is really frustrating as well [customer service... CELL PHONES] and im a SALES REP. so i get people coming at me in my FACE. CONSTANTLY. it gets pretty stressful, i understand. I mean, you have to figure out a way to understand that the person is just upset. they dont MEAN to be jerks. It is just that thye have a lot going on. i mean, what if right before they called, a friend gave them a hard time, or maybe she is getting divorced. I mean, you have to let them know that yelling is going to get them no where and that you are only there to help. somtimes, talking to them a LITTLE condicendingly works. I know, sounds jerky, but sometimes you need to humble them to shut them up. lol. i pormise, i felt like you at a point, but then realized that it's not such a big deal. not only that, but i even learned to find a bit of humor in the face that someone was yelling about such a dumb situation. :]

Hi NadiaAllStar I am actually sailing in the same boat as yours. I am working in a place that I hate the most. I am also handling situations related to customers and at times are very very anoyed with them and instead the word annoyed also does not really describe how I fell about it. I tried my level best looking for other jobs where I do not need to deal with customer as I do not find myself suitable for it but trust me out there the job vacancies are very limited and its just too hard to get the perfect choice. All I can suggest and advice you my friend try your level best to adapt to the situation. I know how you feel but please do not get dissapointed with what I a saying now to adapt. Think of the commitments that you have and the most convincing would be to enjoy the environment more than the job. Just feel happy with the people around you as you are fine with those working with you. Thank you very much for the post. I always wondered if I were the only one doing someting that I dont like but now I have a feeling most of us are stranded onto something just like us. We have to be happy with the worst that we have because there are people out there who are not even having an monthly income due to the economic crisis. For now its better not to leave what we have. Regards Thanusha

I think you should endure it.Everyone knows it is difficult to find a satisfied job in a bad economy. So you can not quit if you don"t find a better job.
