They say what is beauty if the brain is empty. But can we say the same thing, like what is brain if you are ugly? I believe there is always a place for everyone and everything, good or evil, bad or ugly. In a workplace setting, if you are pretty, you probably will fare well receiving customers behind the reception desk. If you are smart and good with numbers, you probably be in some office doing some accounting works. I mean, there are always usefulness and capabilities in everyone of us and it's just a matter of finding our niche or doing the things we love. If you are both smart and beautiful, then good. But being smart and beautiful depends on how each of us take on its meaning.

Smart: I'd use my intelligence to climb up to the top and a lot of money, and then use that money for plastic surgery :D

I'd really be smarter than beautiful. Beauty treatments can be taken but being smarter when you are not is very difficult. So I'd rather be smart !!!

COuldn't I be both cute and smart? Why does it have to be one or the other? I think of myself as smart and beautiful. I don't think that if you have a brain then you have to be ugly or if you are beautiful then you can't be smart. I somewhat hate that stereotype.

I'd rather be smart than beautiful because being smart tells everything. You can carry yourself well and armed with oozing appeal and confidence. You dazzle and glow when you are in the crowd, you know how to interact with different types of people without them getting bored. Being beautiful is only physical and nothing else.

There is a proverb: If there is a remedy, what are you complaining about? If there is no remedy, what are you complaining about? I reckon it´s a mistake to choose between beauty and intelligence as if they were opossite conditions. I consider that beauty can´t be improved. You are cute or you are ugly so what are you complaining about?
In contrast intelligence can be developed if you study hard and read a lot of books and so on.
In my opinion, being intelligent depends on us. So if I have to choose, I would choose beauty, hahaha.

I already both, so I don't worry about it. Even if no one ever told me I was beautiful I would hope I had enough self esteem to think I was. Beauty comes in many different packages. I think perhaps the only thing more important than intelligence is health and I would have to say the two might be tied for first place.

i would prefer to be smart rather than beautiful... because beauty can fades over time (you won't be as beautiful as you were when you grow older)... but smart is forever... nobody can ever steal the knowledge that is already inside your head and it is a great asset to be smart... you can do everything if you are smart and people will look up on you... but not with beauty... take care and have a nice day...

I rather choose the brain then the looks. Intelligent is a permanent feature and a brainy person will always be comfortable in life though may not be able to stand out from all the fair ladies. But beauty is only temporary, it is at its best when one is still young. It fades as time passes by but a smart person will become smarter as she ages. Her experiences in life together with her smart genes make her a beautiful person in and out. It is always interesting to interact with a smart person as she can draw you to her like a magnet with her intellectual conversation. While a beautiful person may only be physically beautiful but is a dull person as she is an empty shell.

Very goo discussion because in this world where people value beauty so much some of the more successful people are only successful because they are pretty and get many breaks. In addition you are easier on the eyes and get lots of compliments however if you are not concerned about looks then you may want to be smart and ugly and make a way for yourself by using your intellect and hope that youare not overlooked by the power broker because of looks. There is another consideration too where your looks dont matter when you are smart adn you may even be able to win over perosn because of intellect. In summary I owul dratehr to be smart though

This is one of the ultimate questions. hahahaha. I think I'd have to be both. I gotta tell you, I can't just pick one. Has to be both. Just coz you're beautiful doesn't mean you can't be smart, and just coz you're smart doesn't mean you have to ugly. You can be physically, mentally, and socially beautiful. And just be book smart as well as street smart.

I would rather be smart than beautiful because after a time beauty will fade but smartness will always be there,it will take me places.Generally people don't judge you by how beautiful you are but rather they judge you by how smart you are.
As the old saying goes that "Beauty is skin deep" so I would really want to be smart.

no doubt,i would chose beauty in this option.although beauty may fade away with time going by.but beauty is the gift that god gave us,not everyone can get that,of couse with the exception of face-lift.on the contary ,i think amart is the thing we can get though our effort.

Very well said.
Being smart is absolute, but being beautiful is relative. What's beautiful to one may not be to others. But if you are smart, you will always be smart wherever you are. It is always better to be smart than be beautiful because if you are smart you can always find way to make yourself look beautiful and make ways to make you feel beautiful. A smart one can make oneself believe and have confidence in oneself. It is easier to be beautiful than to be smart. Well, again, having both is a gift to be thankful for.

i'd rather be smart... having good looks can only take you so far.
if you are dumb you would always need someone else to help you with things.
being beautiful can have it's perks but i would have get them by being smart.
some are lucky enough to have both. looks and smarts. i'll take that lol
but i would rather be smart

When I was a teenager I would have said beauty...
A few years ago I would have said brains...
And here in my 40's I would have to say.. neither... I am more impressed by people with personality and a sense of humor than with all the beauty and intelligence out there. long after beauty fades and intelligence grows boring.. personality shines brighter each passing year!

well im not bragging or anything but friends say i have both actually. but for me, i'd rather be smart than be beautiful. i'll make use of my brain to work hard for myself and earn enough money. then maybe have a surgery? LOL. hahaha. jk. idk. well for me being handsome is not the point at all. its like. you get noticed that much if you're smart and that what makes you beautiful, inside and out.
