Let me know what you think about this computer configuration.
Planning to put a new pc together. But it has been a while. And I like a second oppinion. Oh ya its not the cheapest but also not the most expensive material.
cpu:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Motherboard:
ASUS P5Q
VGA:
ASUS ENGTX275 896MB DDR3
RAM:
Corsair 4096MB DDR2 800Mhz XMS6400 (2x 2GB)
Hard-disk:
Western Digital 640GB Caviar GreenPower 16MB
DVD-writer:(not that this matters so much)
Pioneer 20x DVD-Rewriter IDE DVR-116DBK DL or same but sata, doesn't matter much.
And then a case to put it in. Probably just something standard.
Only question is will a 400W power supply be enough???
I still got a 520W somewhere. But its getting a bid old :)
Annyway tell me what you think of this config.
And maybe give me hint of what I should change.

This looks like a very capable PC. I don't know what you are developing, but a good processor alternative would be the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300. It's the same price give or take 10$ USD and most development software lately seems to prefer multiple cores vs. raw speed. If this was strictly for gaming I would say keep the e8400.
Everything else in this box looks great. Video card is pretty much a personal preference lately. The 275 is really nice. There are cheaper alternatives with a little better performance by ATI right now (specifically the 4890). But this is all about what YOU want ya know? Building a new box is exciting.. I bet you can't wait.
Good luck!

I used to like ati. But the last years ati has been going down hill.
Have had ati and nvidea. I was happy with both of them. But if I look at the preformance between ati and nvidea. nvidea still scores better.

Damn right that's a good rig.
Just think about getting a Radeon 4870X2 (Graphics card)
It's much more powerful that the gtx275.

Also, consider getting 1200/1066mhz ram, because that's what your mobo can take.
Finally, make sure you get the p5q with the ddr2 ram slots. You don't want to go making THAT mistake.

Don't worry that are not mistakes I'll make.
I've got a degree in informatics and know verry well how to put a pc together.
And not take things that are not compatible with other things :D
But thx for telling. Could be usefull tip for others

Those are good specs you have.
You can use the 400W PS. Higher wattage only means higher energy consumption and a higher electric bill. LOL
But you can use a lower wattage power supply, as long as it gives out the correct voltage and current ratings that your computer needs.
Not so techie, eh,

price is around 700€.
But I'm getting my parts in differend spots :p.
And if it was only to use at home for some work. I would go allot cheaper :).
Did one for a friend that only needs it for applications, so no games and stuff.
Came around 300€.
Most important thing is my RAM considering I'm a develloper and I'm abusing allot of RAM. My old comp is 5years and can't take it annymore :D
