I am fed up with the word, "WHY"!

Yes, I am. After all there is a saying that, "You can't answer for every 'why'!", isn't it? So, I thought mylot would be a place where I can get rid or 'why' but I was wrong. People at mylot also would like me to answer to questions which involves why? Examples: What is your favorite color and why? Which is the best picture among the one I am posting, and tell me why? Who would you choose, parent or love and why? I mean can't you just ask like: What is your fav color? Which is the best picture... Who would you choose.... and let me choose whether I want to answer why I chose that?

I'll start out by asking you "Why does it bother you, Sanu, that they ask why?" In answer to your discussion though, asking why as an extension allows for more than just a one word or one line answer. It engages the reader/writer in dialouge, and why I believe most writers on here will include that in their discussion, to sort of clarify that they are looking for more depth. I would assume that most writers of any sort of caliber will answer questions in depth with or without the qualifier. However, some writers need to have these prompts to provoke deeper thought, forcing them to dig beneath the surface. I know when I write threads/posts I generally ask a few questions just to get the readers going, giving them a spring board so to speak. Namaste-Anora

I don't get bothered by only a why question but I get annoyed when they use to extend their question by using this word. I mean they can start a discussion like: What color rose you like the most and why? Can't they simply ask: What color rose you like the most? and leave the why part on me. I have never seen you asking why just because you want to know more from the responder!

Why are you there and I am here sanu? We could spend the whole day talking istead of writing if we were nearer Then I wouldn't have to ask you why ever. For example, if someone has a favorite colour for their clothes and you can see them wearing it you know why it is their favorite. It usually suits them the best. I very rarely ask 'why' on here as everyone has their own reason and I think that it can sometimes be too personal to insist and ask 'why' too many times. If they want to tell me then they will without me asking... just like you do sanu

I find no difference between online and offline. I talk on the phone the same as I talk on here ... and if you have any doubts pm me you number and I'll call you! I don't use 'why'. If someone says his favorite colour is red I might respond with 'oh really?' and then they will tell me why without me asking!

Oh really! I did think that you are referring to the difference between online and offline talking. Intelligent way of asking the reaons. Make em curious and they will tell you the reason behind it.

Hmm, I didn't think in that way. it is different when we talk in general and talk online, even on phone also the same problem can comprise, isn't it? I have read a discussion like, "Do people use to give only shor answers so that they can have a chance to comment back?" and from that discussion onwards, i have started seeing more people using this word more often in their discussion

LOL Sanuanu now I feel horrible. I have a really bad habit of putting why in my discussions. I never even thought about it. I do get what you are saying though you just want us to ask the question and you will decide if you want to tell me WHY or not? LOL I will so try....can't promise you it won't happen but I will try.

I was not pin pointing anyone and it would be nice if people would avoid using this word just to extend their question. I am happy if you would ask me: Why do you want to be a succesfful person in life? but I won't like What do you want to be in your life and .. why?

Why is the most annoying word for me. Do you want to know why? I have a child that asks why. I say to my child, go and clean up your room and the response I get is why? And it goes on. It is no wonder why I don't have any more children. I don't have to go through the why business again.

Hi Sanuanu Well you question is difficult to answer but what comes into my mind is its better to state why you fell such was as you can explain more and as you are well aware mylot pays for the quality of the post and by answering to why you can add your quality. However I agree its annoying at times especially when you dont have the answer for it. Regards Thanusha

Extending the question: Is it what you are saying? Then it will not be the author who will get penalized but it would be the responder because he would require to make a relatively long response to get paid, is't ti?

I would take a reference of one of my comments in this discussion: question: What is your fav. color? Then my answer would be: Red and blue is my color. I have 2 red T-shirst and one Shirt with this color. I even have one jeans in blue color. I used to use blue half pants when I was in school. See, did I mention why I liked these colors? So, I think this is upto the responder whether he/she can extend the length without why!
• Malaysia
16 Apr 09
Yeah we would have to write a long answer for question which would have a why. If the question were What colour you like, the answer would be simply red. If the question was what colour you like and why, the answer would be read and because its attractive and nice to be worn especially on cloths. So you have a meaning to the question. Dont you think so? Regards Thanusha

Well some people just want to have the answers of their responder elaborated..Some responders when asked what is your favorite color they will just respond with the color and nothing else so maybe that's why some people ask the why question.

Okay most of the time I am getting the same response and every time I say that I don't need to tell them that why I like this color. I can say many things that I have a particular jeans with that color and I have a shirt with that color. I am fond of it from my childhood. This all can be said without explaining why I like it.

Well it is a part of it. You can ask question without asking why but the answer is lucking if there is no explanation, because words are complex and it has a lot of meaning, and if you didnt explain it, it can have other interpretation and can lead to miss interpretation. For me why is a must when you ask?

what is lucking? and that why 'why' is the word i don't like because I have to think for a reason before I can answer!

I can see the word really annoys you! I don't know whether people deliberately add it to the end of the question just to extend the discussion. Would you prefer it if the question was asked like this: what is you favourite colour and what are the reasons you like this colour? Is that better for you?

You are trying to play with the words but psychologically it gives me a good feeling and I am not feeling uncomfortable with it but still I have to say why I like it. There are something in life that you can't explain and you have no reasons for it. Like, why we love our mom. If one can answer this question, then it will give a perception that s/he is trying to put a price tag to his/her mom's innocent love, isn't it?

Kids would always ask you questions because they want to know each and everything in a small span of time. I feel good with them as long as they keep their interest away from adult questions.

Indeed, there are some 'why' we can't explain! Even God can't explain, we are mere a soul in human body created by him. Yes, we can't answer every why to everyone.

the word why always is been used at the end of the question or start. in my school days, i remember that in my question paper there always used to exist a "why", everyone used to hate whenever there used to exist any "why".

Yeah right, I agree to that, there will always be the "WHY" part of the question. You can't ask, "What is your favorite color and when?" or "What are you sad?".... :, cheers!...

I can understand what you are saying, maybe people add this to allow for more words to be used in the responses? Don't you get more money for longer answers? WHY ELSE WOULD YOU USE WHY?
@sanuanu (11235)
• India
16 Apr 09
yes, we do get more money for longer answers and every mylottian knows it that 4-5 liners give more money to the responder too. I don't think users will not reply to that discussion if people would not use why in their discussion. Ask me any question which you think the answer would be a one liner and I would give you a response with more than 1 word.

it is really a good point of observation you had did it. i think people add this question tag ´why´ is just due to find the exact answer they are looking for or just to know more about it and reach the conclusion and also may be due to have a descriptive answer. all have different view points and by this ´why´we can know how other think and their different ways.

If you look for the comments too, then it doesn't matter to them if we answered 'why' or not! My tendency is that I answer all queries and can't leave 'why' in a discussion.

Hello friend, It really is very strange and at times, irritating when you have to keep answering a "why" for everything. I remember one of my kid brothers asking "why" for each and every answer that I gave him. And, no matter what amount of explanation you give him, he will find a "why" in that and put it on your face. People here a mylot are a lot sensible and I must say that they are justified in asking "why" a few times but not always. I mean, there's no "why" to your favorite color, is it? Cheers

ofcourse, not even God has the answer to every 'why' which is being put in front of our face by kids. I am a little safe because there is no kid in my house so, for a time being I can have a breather or two!

when people ask 'why' they expect you to give reason for your answer. if that 'why' is not added to the question then the answers would be of one word only. answering 'why' at every step is required.

I think mylot people are smart enough and they know that one word answer would never lead them to win more money here. So, even if you don't add a word 'why' they would make the response a little more bigger than one word.

Hi Mr_Allan_A, I wonder what is the meaning of your user name. I am fed up with the word why because people use it for some boring reasons, just like you. I have illustrated my problem in my discussion and instead of reading it you are asking me the same question! i don't like it.
