Personnally I don't go for inceneration even if they say that they have develop a zero emission facility, the same goes to landfill, because when it rains, bacteria or viruses, etc. will find their way down to our potable water bed. Best solution to save our environment is recycling right there in your own backyard. That is if the government is not doing anything on issues on pollution.

yes I think you are so right we all need to use every thing we can and recycle . If only governments would get this message , thanks for your responce *

I've been using effective microorganisms to convert my biodegrable garbages into organic fertilizers, been using it for almost 3 years now on my small plot, atleast I stop using chemical fertilizers for that longtime now...and the plastics, used batteries, cans and bottles,etc..there is a private environmental organization here who collects them,so I have no problem of disposing them.

my state in the US has mandatory recycling,a lot of it gets reused. i think they incinerate most of the leftovers,it really depends what it is. i'm not sure what they do with the big bulky items like furniture people leave on the curb, but a lot of times it never even makes it to garbage day, people will come by and take it,which is cool.i know when i leave things out if someone else can use them, they're welcome to it.better than sitting in the landfill.

Sounds like a good system in your area .. I like the idea of things put out in the street and taken up by people that can use them ... Thats real recycling . Thanx 4 reply **

Hello Derry. These days, with the hydrocarbon resources declining, biomass is becoming an option for power generation and other energy needs. Many countries are developing Power Stations based on biomass, including the municipal wastes.

I don't think putting things in a landfill is good. Although incineration can be bad depending on the product being incinerated and what things it could send into the atmosphere to destroy it. I'm not sure the process of recycling but I think it's much better to use. If we use more biodegradable items and even try to keep these items for longer after use by finding different more creative ways to use them then that would be even better. Oh and yes, I think here in America it goes to landfill and recycling more then incineration, but I'm not sure.

yes more recycling would be great .. and yes to more biodegradables , we need a change at the prodution end of things really to have a good impact . In London we still do both , thanx 4 reply *

Yes I was thinking about that when I was responding to you, more biodegradable things should be produced. It's great that you still do both as it evens it out.

Yes but getting these companies to reuse these items might prove tougher, although you would think it'd be easier with the present movement to be more green. However, there's still the possibility that these "green" companies aren't as green as they'd like us to assume they were. Hoping that the world will follow the three R's, Somecowgirl

The best is to recycle the possibile, starting from producing less packaging; if a material it however undifferentiable the inceneration it's a solution only if the process is controlled and done well, but it's a solution only if at the start there is a good system of recycling and reuse of all materials. In Italy it's a political and regional topic, because here in north italy we have a good recycling system and unfortunately a lot of incinerators, that cause many health problems to people who lives near the plants; in south italy instead there are less incinerators but the deposit of waste has too muth problems that until a few months ago there was waste all over the streets..with new landfills the problem is temporarily resolved, but it will take much time to see a good result..

landfill - i prefer this because scavengers can get rubbish plastics, cans , cartoons etc for money. and the trash that are biodegradable will be made as fertilizer if it will rotten.while incineration makes our planet earth affected due to its ashes and etc. now a days our planet was already have a hole so we must avoid incinerating rubbish and leaves.
