Hi! Mimpi!
I think 'water' is most precious for our life and I think that is wasted by many of us. Water should be consumed as per our requirements because when one day there would be extreme scaricity of water, we won't be able to survive in this world. I have heard that there are many places in India, which do not get regular water supply and people over there take bath once in two days and that too on chair or porous bed (manzi) and when they take bath water gets collected in tubs/buckets etc. they use this left out water to wash their clothes and whatever is left out after washing, that water is used for cattles or for plants. Those of us who get plenty of water or can get water after spending few bucks may not realise the importance of water. We must educate our kids and the younger generation that the potable water is most important in our day to day life and it should be used to the barest minimum.
Good Post!

Thanks so much for a wonderful response.
Its amazing how we need to lose a thing to get the importance of it! In Rajasthan scarcity of water made them wise and they reused water, as you have said and also recycled and stored the water. Now, things are better in some parts with good plans and techniques. but on the contrary, places where water in not scare people waste it like anything!

Yes Mimpi, you are very right where there is no scarcity of water, people continue to waste potable water for gardening, washing cars and bathing their animals. They do not realise that if they continue to waste it, one day we'll be left with no water and our survival will be in danger.

Yes Mimpi, some concrete steps needs to be taken. Like there should be different supply lines for raw and potable water, so that both type of water could be used as per needs and potable water is not wasted in washing cars and gardening.

Our natural resources ,and of them i them i see water being wasted everywhere.
In the kitchen while washing the dishes, the faucet is running, the toliets, the excesive bath water, the leaking taps, the overflowing overhead sumps without level controllers, over watering the lawn....
There is so much we can do to conserve this water. It's my pledge today on Earth day. And moresoever we must remember to make everday an Earth day.

Thanks so much and I appreciate your thoughts. Water is most irrationally wasted and when I find the water rushing down the street taps without any control I feel like telling them that we are only responsible for the shortage!

It's the street taps and the broken water mains which lie unattended to for hours. Sometime back i had to make a few complaints to the department on this regard. People should learn to conserve water. I sincerely hope that atleast some get the message and start practising it.

We are so unaware, uninitiated about our plumbing system in our house in the first place. so much so that we keep the taps open while brushing or washing! and the initiative has to come from us first and foremost before pointing to others.

Hello mimpi.
Well there are many things that we waste in our life but i think the top most of them is... clean air !
And when i say clean air i am referring to both the trees that are cut down, and no other planted in return, and also to the cars using gasoline as fuel, instead of using bio fuel - like hydrogen from water, or gases or vegetable oil.

Thanks Alex for your response. Clean air is something we are too careless about and even though a lot has been said and done but it's too late and too little. Responsibility lies in each one of us and I am trying to do my bit and more. Thanks.

I felt that almost everything in our natural resources mimpi is being wasted, on top of that I think trees are very much abused, we turn forests into cities and we forgot to replace them. To this end, I urge the youth in our community for a tree planting and coastal clean up in observance of the World Earth Day last April 22. It feels good to contribute something for your future generation and it is a good way to influence the youth over the importance of nature.

It's a very inspiring message mimpi, it's important to give some thought to our beautiful planet. I would have to say that a lot of water is wasted in my country. Just the other day a news item stated how many litres of water was being wasted due to leaks etc, I don't remember the exact figure, it was something like 86 litres a day...
We've had severe water restrictions here for a quite a while, we have allocated watering days and in some States washing cars with a hose is not permitted only a bucket is allowed.
As you can imagine we are very water conscious due to droughts here.
Not enough thought goes into our planet day to day, it is a good idea to consider what we can all do right now to conserve our Earth.

You are much aware and conscious than us people. I really appreciate all those moves to save water. Droughts could be terrible and many places here where we have deserts, people manage with so much little water! We should be better safe than sorry. Here are some tips that I gathered from internet.
Basics of water conservation
Bathroom Tips
Here are some things you can do to cut down on your water usage in the bathroom. Small adjustments in shower habits or toilet flush volumes add up to make a big difference.
* Cut down on showering time
* Install low-flow shower heads
* Avoid taking baths—take showers instead
* Turn off the faucet when brushing teeth or shaving
* Consider placing a water-filled plastic bottle in toilet tank
* Lower your toilet’s float level slightly
In the Kitchen
The kitchen is another area of your home where water is often used and wasted. Here are some tips to minimize waste.
* Refrigerate a water pitcher to avoid waiting for cold water to reach the tap
* Use as little water as possible while cooking
* Try using a pressure cooker—it cooks faster and requires less water
* Try not to use larger pans than necessary
* Cook one-dish meals—great for leftovers, as well as saving water
Washing Up
Laundry and dishwashers use a lot of water. Keep these tips in mind when you are preparing to use them.
* Wait to wash clothes and dishes until you have a full load
* Consider purchasing a high-efficiency washing machine
* Scrape dishes before rinsing and putting them in the dishwasher
* Try to use fewer dishes while cooking
* Use a washing tub if you wash dishes by hand—don’t fill the entire sink
Outside the Home
Here are some basics to help you cut down on water usage outside your home.
* Water your lawn early in the day
* Check your sprinklers to avoid watering pavement or other unnecessary areas
* Adjust automatic sprinkler settings
* Read your water meter—if the meter is running when no water is running, you may have a leak
Thanks.

Hi mimpi,
Deepak surely deserved a BR for his post. This is amazing to see how people are striving for a drop of water in desert areas and how we are here are wasting water at the slightest of the causes.
Take our province for example our providence. We are just can not imagine of water reused as Deepak has described.
Would you cal it waste of water or mismanagement of water.

I think mismanagement leads to wastage and most certainly wastage of an important earth resource.

WATER!!! definitely water... i had seen many times how people just waste water for nothing... the most noticeable example is in the public toilet while people keep the tap running or flush the toilet too many times... many times they do not turn off the tap properly and keep the water running for nothing... also, sometimes people do not flush properly and keep the water running as well... this is just one example... there are still many... when people taking a shower, washing the dishes, etc... the list goes on and on... i hope people will start to realise how important water is and start to use it wisely... take care and have a nice day...

So true! We are so careless while using taps and flushes and we hardy bother to look back to see the water dripping. We waste a lot of water therwise as ell.
Thanks lingli.

The disparity is so much. In some places its being wasted and in some we have to buy it!

I think people usually waste the electricity. For example, there are many places which set the very low temperature of the air conditioner. Actually we all feel very cold in the places like bank, restaurants and so on. I think it is a waste because it is not necessary to have so low temperature, even if it's in the hot summer.
I love China

That's another point youless. Our modern day architecture mostly comprises of glass buildings without any cantilevers and shades. This requires more electricity to cool down or to warm up. Strangely, we are endorsing this. And I also agree with you about the waste.

honestly?
our time!!
As a believer that someone higher than us holds the keys to our resources.. and that those resources were put there without anyone's help.. I think that the resources will be there until we no longer need them.
We didn't set up the earth.. and I don't think we can fix it. But the creator can.

Our lots are being wasted. Barren lots are just being abndoned to wild grasses while we can plant root crops and fruit trees. Some vacant lots are just being used as dumped sites of garbages while we can make gardens out of it for shady trees, ornamental or flowering plants. Thus this will avoid pollutions and give us fresh air instead.

That's an excellent point. Planting trees is a great thing to do if only we did it more often with more accessible open land.

Hi mimpi1911,
Yeah I agree with you that we should be the one to take good care of our nature because its our role in this place. In the same way, we benefit with what nature provide if we will be a responsible individuals. As of now, with the fast economic growth, our forest natures are the one being waisted because its a part of a sacrefice on a certain country for development. forest turn in to residential areas or malls, etc. It so sad to know that this things need to be done...

This is absolutely cruel and sad. Cutting down of trees in the name of civilisation is sad. There should be alternative process of making the best use of land.

it should be a collective activity to save the earth forever....other wise the coming generation will definitely blame us. The main problem earth is facing now is global warming due to ozone deterioration and the use of plastics without any limit. Another issue is deforestation. We have to wake up and act against these for a BETTER EARTH TOMORROW.

Our natural resources are being destroyed and wasted daily. I am trying to find a way to conserve water and I am also helping to protect our ozone. I am looking into making my own cleaners so that I don't have to use so many chemicals in my house. It is important for us to harvest wind energy and many other ways to cut down on the use of our natural resources. God gave us this earth and we need to quit tearing it apart.

Respect for one another is very much being wasted, not any material thing. Some of the people most interested in enforcing their concept of "green" on the rest of humanity are, in my experience, among the most wasteful themselves, as they often overlook the larger picture while getting bogged down in minute details. When we try to bully others into sharing our concept of what is beautiful, we do more damage, I think, than we do by burning a light bulb or enjoying a hot shower.

Hi mimpi! Well, I think that one of the things that is being
wasted alot is paper! I know that I have become alot more
concious of it myself! If I can use and reuse paper I do it
as often as possible. At least we are trying as a society to
use less paper! Of course, then there is the plastic bag
problem, but at least they can be reused alot more often!

I have trying to go virtually online with less paper consumption. Even though its tough here, better late than never. Paper is wasted like anything and recycling and using reusable stuffs should be prioritised.
