There be dragons..........

Today I went on a little journey. Someone who has obviously been here for a while responded to one of my discussions. So after replying I went on a little journey to their profile. Do you do that? This person is big in the politico/religious boards. Not much liked by some and clearly amuses many others. I generally avoid those places as they seem to attract folk who are so far up their own ar$es to not be funny. However, it was a useful reminder to me that even here there's an awful lot of bigotry and intolerance mostly based on flawed ideology going on. Do you ever have a peek at posters profiles? Have they ever taken you to a part of myLot that you don't much frequent.

Oh yes, dragons are fun. Do you know that many are just misunderstood. They have to keep up the fearless, dangerous image for the legends etc but the older ones would be perfectly happy with a nice cave to settle in with their treasure bed and just dream of all their past glories.
OOps there I am getting of the track again, like I always do, I often look at people's profiles to try and learn bit more about them. I am particularly interested in the discussions they have started. I find that is often the best way to learn a bit about their mind, their way of thinking.
If I find that they only start discussions about money making websites I sigh in despair and go back to searching for buried treasure. Hmm or is that dragon lair treasure?

I rarely dig deeply through other people's profiles anymore. All I generally do is have a cursory glance over someone's profile when they mak a friend request and every now and then I'll go and browse through existing friend's profiles to see if they've started anything new lately. (I don't use the email notifications to keep track) But even in these instances, I'll rarely go past the first page of any section, so stumbling across something overly new to me is rare in that sense.
We sure do have all walks of life on here and that's certainly no surprise! Personally I'm not someone who participates a lot in politics, but I'll head on into Religion once in a while. There are many occasions when I really do wish to step on up and ask WTF??? but after careful consideration, usually come to the conclusion that it would be a pointless exercise. I'm just going to end up frustrated and pissed off, so why bother? They can be interesting threads to watch at times though! I find it especially intriguing how so many people can be right yet completely evasive all at the same time! Who knows, maybe one day I'll decide I've had enough of mylot and will wade on in to all of it!

That's what the notes are for, but perhaps someone to take the photos would be good.

That would be a fun thing to do. I love learning about different subcultures and beliefs and different types of people. Plus you can tell a lot about a person by the types of posts and discussion they respond to. I feel like I’m being a stalker but it’s great. It kind of scares me though that someone could do the same with me

Profiles are so interesting when I have the chance to visit one. I like to see where people are from, sometimes that explains a lot. I don't go to the religious board much--I have somewhat unconventional views and I found that very few people there are open to new ideas.
Sometimes a person confuses or shocks me and I look at their profile and see all kinds of stuff that explains why they think the way they do.

'Even here'? The very nature of myLot, that it allows you to fire off your thoughts and opinions with perfect anonymity, makes it the perfect place for those who are so inclined to bigotry and intolerance to show their true colours.
I generally only look at other posters' profiles when I'm deciding whether they're the sort of person I'm interested in having as a friend or not. Occassionally I'll take a peek if something someone says surprises me. I find it best to avoid the boards where I'm likely to get riled be people's opinions though. I come to myLot to relax, not to get cross!

Ah, the art of living dangerously. There are some places you really shouldn't go without a roadmap.
Sadly all too often the sparkling and witty new friend you encounter all of a sudden has a referral scheme and you realise you're not in Kansas any more.
But still, no harm done, as adults we can all make choices and I am well able to hit the delete button just as I do for countless spam emails which come my way every day.

Bwaahahahaa - I can't believe you said 'up their own @rses', P1key! Occasionally I look at profiles - mostly because the person has mentioned another discussion they've been involved in, which I'm interested in finding. I usually avoid religion and politics - people are all set in their ways and there's no point trying to make your point of view to folk who are absolutely blinkered. I was thrilled to be introduced to Panda Spanking, however - I'd certainly never frequented THAT before!

I do frequently check out other users' profiles for many reasons.
I look at my friends profiles just to see if they've started any discussions that I find interesting or if they've commented on other discussions that I find interesting.
If someone who I am unfamiliar with posts something that I find interesting I will check out their profile to get a feel for them and possibly send a friend request.
I also check out someone's profile if I am not sure if they were joking in one of their posts. Seeing what they post gives a little insight into their thoughts and lets me know where they are coming from.

I peek at profiles.... It's how I learned about you, the happy band of Irish/ gypsy dressed/ full of sparks type of ladies, and a few of the other folks I've come to know and love. I look for common things but also areas I might enjoy but didn't know about.
I also find things in profiles that I had missed and would like to respond to.

Yes, Ii have and do on occasion. We have to wade in sometimes to check out all corners of mylot to see all that it offers and what we can see..we learn that way. And we learn where we can venture and where not to tread again.

OH yes! I still have flashbacks too! I seriously hate the intolerance and bigotry that goes on in the darker corners of our playground sweety! I have to admit that whilst I will check out profiles I do generally try to avoid those darker corners! xxxx

I sometimes look at other people's profiles. It all just depends. I like friends who have a variety of different ideas about things. If they say something mean or hateful, I usually just ignore it.

There be dragons thread started on St George'e day - and it's not a xenophobic rant about English traditions? Cool! (Second one today, actually)
I'm always interested to see people's profile pages, especially when they put things like "As I was swashing away the annoying humming birds buzzing past my window and hitting me in the face with their antics ..."
Also, those whose penname suggests "for'n parts". I can travel without leaving my arm chair (just as well, cos I haven't got a passport and can't afford to buy one)

Sorry? I was just singing "There'll always be an England" and waving the St George's flag. Did you say something about xenophobic rants? Well I don't know if you've seen the standard of turn out of Morris Dancers recently and dash it all, they've even got female ones now. Beyond the pale you know...what....what..?

Morris Dancers? MORRIS DANCERS?!
They get their bells from China now, did you know that? And don't get me started on the female variety. I mean, can you imagine it? "Oh no, your stick has just broken my fingernail." "Hang on, stop the music - I've got a stray eyelash in my eye and it's made my mascara run ..." "Look, I know I'm supposed to be the devil on horseback but I'm sure my bum looks bigger in this costume ..." "These ribbons are soooo not my colour!"
Strewth.
Good news is, the Horley St George's Day parade is on this Saturday, so I haven't missed it after all. It sets off from Lidl's, or so I've been told.
"Come one, come aw-all to Hor-or-ley town, where the bread it is stale and the cucumbers brown. With a fol-da-ro-ho-hol and a far-da-rol-dee ..."
Wanders off happily swinging her bells in the air ...
