Hi everyone! Yesterday I broke down and purchased something that I have been wanting to purchase for some time now. I got a Topsy Turvy planter and I got a nice sized tomato planter. I planted it last night and here is a picture of my newly planted addition to my garden. I hope I did it right. I think I didn't shove it up in the soil as much as I should have, but I guess we will see now. Has anyone else here on myLot ever used the Topsy Turvy before? If you did, how did it work for you? I am hoping that this will work for me. One time, long ago, I tried to grow tomatoes the traditional way and they ended up getting those nasty green worms on them and also I think the leaves dried up. I am hoping that I don't get any worms as these tomatoes will be up in the air. Wish me luck and I'll keep you updated as the plant starts to grow tomatoes. I wonder how often I will need to water this. I have it in Miracle Gro soil right now. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!!

I've never tried one and don't know anyone personally who has, but they sure look like they do on TV. I don't think it's for me, though, as I'm pretty traditional and enjoy tending a garden and it wouldn't be the same. Since it's in a small container and very little soil it won't hold moisture very well, so I would think it would need watered every day, maybe even twice a day if it's very warm. Did you read the directions?

yea, they do work.the thing i like is you don't have to stake them up being as they're hanging like that. i have one i made from a plastic water cooler bottle hanging in my porch right now. you may want to get one of those automatic watering bulbs so you don't have to keep an eye on it as much.

I have a friend in Phoenix that bought one and he says it's really great. This is his second season using it. You'll still have to watch for worms because but they won't be much of a problem. My friend sprays water mixed with a little dish soap on the tomatoes when they get any pests and the all die or go away and soap isn't poisonous to us or the tomatoes.

That is cool looking but then I have no room to hang things. I will still plant mine. Well, my roommate will. I just bought all the stuff. hoping it all turns out this year. Last year tomatoes where small and some of them split. So have to watch the water this year. I told him to stop watering. You have a great day.

I have heard that this works. I know they sell really well in stores so I think they must work. I don't think that many people would buy them if they didn't. You'll have to let us know how it works out for you.

Why would it not work? Tomatoes are vine plants, most people just don't plant them correctly. Have you ever been to "The Land" at Disney World? They grow a lot of fruits and veggies this way. It is supposed to help cut back on the use of natural resources and most plants produce more and better tasting fruits/veggies.

AWESOME!!I have so wanted to try one of those and one that does the strawberries also. Me and my husband have to deal with my brother in laws chickens since they like to eat everything in site and so with it off the ground maybe they wouldn't be able to reach it to eat them..We sooooooo want to get one but we don't want to if they are a waste of money..so can you let us know how it goes? We would be much obliged.

That really look weird from the way your tomato looks like. I do hope that it works for you. I am looking forward to seeing how your plant is working.

I've never heard of such a thing..I'm answering from email so I will have a look when I post. Sounds like you need some tomato dusting powder, I think it's called ferris dust. It might be called something different where you are. It discourages and stops bugs getting onto and laying eggs inside the fruit.

I am not a gardener....so I wish you the best of luck with your tomatoes....the fresh ones always taste so much better then store bought...you can tell the minute you bite into one that it's home grown!

Hi, schulzie! I am going to get one too; my daughter has been asking for one ever since she saw that commercial. She wants to grow strawberries upside down too. I hope it works for me too. My biggest worry is if large, heavy fruit will cause the plant to pull away from its planter. I will be watching for your results. Happy planting!

I have alwys wanted to try one of the Topsy Turvy tomato things, but I haven't bought one yet. I tried growing tomatoes in a container a couple years ago, but I got a really big plant and no tomatoes. That was rather disappointing to have a big beautiful plant, but never any fruit . I am planning on trying again this year. I have some little tomato seedlings that I have grown inside and I plan on transplanting them outside soon. Wish me luck! I hope you get lots of tomatoes with your topsy turvy!

I wanted one but cost to much for me. and the watering part It should tell you in the instrutions how often to water I got 9 plants planted reg. way one now has a bloom on it. If ya get cutting worms on it use Seven dust to kill them and keep other bugs away. If lefts turn yellow not enough water at teh roots but being upside down should be watering the roots first lol Good luck with it

HI schulzie! You have to provide updates for me - I'm so curious if this will actually work. I've seen that there can be different plants besides tomatoes that can grow in the planter - did you purchase any other plants? Good luck to you and I hope you have tons of tomatoes!
