Sorry, I have seen this quote in someone's comment posted on their profile. How many of you believe in it? I don't think it is correct as we all are fighting to get happiness in my life and life is a journey of which the destination is happiness or sadness. Once we get happiness or sadness, we stay there for some time and then start our journy again which next destination is again happiness! What if your thought?

I believe it... A destination is a place found and you stay there....unchanging.. firmly planted. A journey is constantly seeking, changing as we move from path to path... happiness is like that.. nothing stays the same.. we are always moving and changing and yes, even searching.. therefore it would make sense that happiness is something that also changes (what made us happy yesterday might not apply now) and so we follow each path in search for it. I have seen this quote 100 times this week alone.. think it might be a sign? lol!

the two (happiness and sadness) make up the journey.. you can't have one constant mood.. we all change.. life around us changes... in all actually truth we never have more of one (happiness or sadness) than the other.....it all has a way of just evening out. If you are happy.. it will soon pass... when you are sad.. that too, shall soon pass.. nothing ever stays the same. the journey continues until we die.

Then why is it that sadness remains with us most of the time and happiness doesn't? it really doesn't.. we just pay more attention to sadness because it feels so bad.. we never question happiness.. we ride it out and love every second.. but sadness stops us in our tracks and makes us think it lasts longer than it does.

Okay, so , happiness as well as sadness is a friend of us, isn't it? Then why is it that sadness remains with us most of the time and happiness doesn't?

Indeed, we are ourself responsible for making our life a good one or a bad one. But what is it in philosiphical way, a journey or a destination or a friend?

I can see your point sanuanu but I think life is full of intermittent highs and lows and I believe that there is not a 'destination'. You can be happy and sad many times throughout just one day! My belief is that we should look for contentment instead of happiness. Happiness is short lived as you say, it's like being in love; it doesn't last all that long and what is more important is a deeper more long lasting feeling.

Hi paula, Thanks for the deep thought shared with me. So, what is it that we live life with. I mean no one is alone in this world. So, if we are living then there must be something which is running or walking with us. If it is not happyness then what it is, sadness?

I think it should be a general content feeling that we are living a good life with integrity and love regardless of the ups and downs. It's about liking ourselves and the way we conduct our lives.

I also think happiness is a journey and it is not destination. I do stay in happiness and sadness for a particular period of time, but most times we don't stay too long. Right now I am in sadness losing my job and don't know what will happen in the future. I know God has better plans and will certainly take care of me in this hard period of time. Life changes every second and it is journey through which we come across different things and different feelings.

Why do we think that God has better plan for us? It is only us who can plan for our life. I am really sorry about your job but then there is no need to be sad because if you become sad and stop tryin then worse things can happen!

For me each of these statements is a sometimes truth. Many times happiness is the trip and many times it's the destination. Each situation is different and this is one thing that makes life exciting.

Sanu- I teach a class using a book called Simple Abundance, and that is pretty much the principle. When you live in the moment, allow the moments to come and go you begin to find that you are able to deal with almost anything. Sure, life does throw us curve balls from time to time, but we do not have to let it control us. Indeed happiness is a journey that we are all on daily, and for the most part I can say I'm happy most days. It does not mean I do not have other emotions, but I am very content in the now moments because it's now always, as Eckharte Tolle relates in his book A New Earth. Enjoy life, live in each moment, and find happiness in all you do. Namaste-Anora

Laughter is the best medicine but if someone gets a laugh even if s/he is in sad moments, then it will not be a good thing for her/his health. So, we can't say that happiness is a journey otherwise, no one will be feeling sadness. I mean if I am travelling with a Air Force one for my entire life, then I will not have to do anything but live royal life, isn't ti?

I would soupose it would depend on how one felt aobut it. Happness is also a state of mind. but seeking happness can be a journey also. it is an intresting quite I think.

Happiness is a journey not a destination. I agree with that. Life is a journey and there is no destination. It is about the journey. We choose happiness. Even in times of hardship and sadness, we can choose to be happy with the journey.

I agree with the quote. Happiness is a journey like our everyday life and experiences. Happiness is part of those. Yes we fight for happiness but we fight it while having or going to a journey to a new chapter of our lives.....My expalnation is kind a weird but if you think about it carefully you would understand where I'm coming from.

Hi,sanuanu I agree with you.I will be happy when I see my family members,my friends are happy.I cannot say it is a destination, because I have to work towards this goal and actually there is no end I think. We always want something better when we get something we have dreamed before. You are right,it is a journey, not a destination! Have a nice day!

try and understand thin beautiful saying in this way. What is the meaning of the word ‘destination’…it means a place where you want to reach after a journey. So basically, after reaching the destination, your journey stops and there is nothing beyond. So if happiness is the destination or aim of life, one day you will be happy and then there will be nothing more in your life. That is not possible, coz sadness and happiness are correlated, i.e. we understand happiness only because sadness is there. So if there is no sadness, you will very soon get bored of your happiness. So it is said the life is a journey in search of happiness and that is how we experience happiness, we never reach it as a destination.

I agree with this saying 'happiness is not a destination but a journey' Our experience always tells us to postpone our happiness, even though we do not consciously set out to do so, but we keep convincing ourselves, "someday I'll be happy". We tell ourselves we'll be happy when our bills are paid, when we get out of school, get the first job, a promotion, a family, etc... But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to overcome, some unfinished business, time still to be served, debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective helped me see that happiness is not the destination but the journey.

Happiness is inside you, and you make your own happiness...if you have negative thoughts then unhappy things will trouble you eg problems and your life will be negative and unhappy..but if you think positively then you will reach Happiness and good happy things will happen to you and you will be able to ride above the negative things that happen in everyday life...littleowl

hi there. i agree with your insight about happiness. life in itself is a journey in which we try to go to the destination we want which is happiness. we go through different trials and changes in our journey and we try to endure all these for the sake of being happy. just like the message of the movie of will smith, "pursuit to happyness," we pass through a lot of hardships and we must learn how to cope and get through all of these in order to attain happiness.

Hello sanuanu; The quote you are mentioning has some sparks of truth and at the same time misses the point. The destination is actually what all of us are reaching for: Being happy. So, the word "destination" is not accurate. The reaching of happiness is a quest. The journey is how we try or work at creating our life so it brings us more pleasure than pain. The relation we have with ourself, with others, with children, with society, etc. The word "journey" is then not really accurate either in this sense. What will bring us more pleasure than pain? Few things of the order of doing things in life that in essence are more pleasurable than painful and avoiding, when possible, to do things that will bring us more pain than pleasure. I could give like 20 something points but it would be too long a thing here. Visit: www.thewaytohappiness.org You will be happy :) to see and hear what's there! Hurray
