How much do your Kids/grandkids know about computers?

I just caught my 4yr old grandson changing out the hard drive on his computer! Wow, he did it correctly & fast! He also knows that he is using a "Dial-up" service but needs "DSL"...when I asked him where he learned how to change a hard drive I got the usual answer "Uh, I don't know" "It just didn't boot up anymore", I thought he was just playing those silly games & having fun. Where do kids learn this stuff from? Are they learning this in Day Care? How much did your kids know about computers at 4ys old? Do I have a future Bill Gates?

Amazing kid! It's great. Well, so far my 4 year old nephew uses the computer only for playing games and sometimes watching the DVD movie on the computer. He is quite a fast learner as i only did help him to open the DVD movie for once and since that time he could do it herself. He knows how to set to full screen, pause, play, and stop. Well, i think your grandson is much smarter. You should teach him carefully from now on. He could be the next Bill Gates :) Good luck. Have a nice weekend.

Welcome to MyLot, yes, they do seem to know so much about today's technology! I have let my kids & grandkids play with the computer since they were old enough to hold on to a mouse.

Fantastic! that is something I have not thought of doing with the kids...they would love making movies. Mabey if I had access to a computer in my childhood it wouldn't have taken a decade for me to learn how to use this one...lol..thanks for responding.

From now on, I'll be looking in other people's backyards. I'm sure to find three year old kids building robots instead of doing whatever they would normally do. Looking forward for a new Bill Gay too.

Amazing, our future generation is proving to be very intelligent. Kudos to you for allowing them to play with your laptop at such a young age.

My youngest son is 2 and a half and he can find the HIS movie file on my computer. So may say that it isn't too impressive but it isn't on my desktop. In fact, it is on a third harddrive in a file named "movies" and then once in that there is one that says "memphis." He can also pick the right movie if he is looking for something specific.

It's not just that. This Generation had been exposed to Technology that so far took me almost a decade to get to know some techno stuff. with all the information from magazines to internet. you can fix any technology in no time. but for that kid, i think he might have been a real intelligent person. not that am saying that he's a geek but like it's this generation expose to so many gadgets and stuff. something that am not able to do with my computer

I am not a parent, but I can say for sure that children know sooo much about computers and technology. :-) The thing about modern day technology is that it is constantly changing. Even now as we speak it is changing. :-) I was very fortunate to be raised in a generation that knows a lot about the changing trends of technology. :-) For many of those born before me, it is quite difficult for them to "catch on". :-)... Children learn a lot about computers from their environment: school, friends, visiting an electronics store. :-)
