I've done fairly well using the social security index, going back to the 1500's on my hubbys side. I enjoy doing the research. If you ever need help please feel free to message me, I will help the best I can.

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com is a good search engine to connect with other researchers and their trees. My suggestion would be to check and double check every bit of information you get. Take nothing for granted. Someone may tell you that you descend from Henry the Eighth, but don't believe it until you have proved it yourself. Good Luck with your research.

I try to do searches on my family history, but come to some road blocks with the family name, because we think it was changed when they came here from Ireland.

Yes, I have been doing so for several years. I've had a fairly decent amount of success, with some lines having been traced back to the 1300's. It can be time consuming and require a lot of work, but if it is something you are really in to, it's definitely worth the effort.

For some country like US maybe you can easily do that cause you have a very details databased from the census board but in my country we don't have that huge databased yet and further more like my cases I do connect to china on family history so its really take time cause we can only manually trace it.

I have had pretty good success online. Alot of my lines are Dutch and the Dutch have many records online with no cost. If anyone out there needs help with their Dutch lines, let me know. I would be happy to assist.
