I'm not happy about it, but I had to do it

Although I've been "trying" to lose weight, all I'm doing is gaining. Then I get discouraged about it and do the wrong things (no exercise and eating junk) and I gain some more. Well, I've gained a total of 50 pounds and NONE of my clothes fit. I have pretty much nothing to wear to work or around the house, which is really making the whole situation worse. A couple months ago I got rid of all my "skinny" clothes (not that I was skinny, but I hadn't been able to fit into them in years). I did feel a little better about that because it wasn't as much pressure to get back into them. But, I'm steady gaining and need some "big" clothes. So I went out shopping yesterday. I bought 3 pairs of pants and 3 tops, some underwear (see, NOTHING fit me!) and a pair of shoes. I did pretty good on the money side, so I was happy about that. But I'm very disgusted with myself that I'm now "squeezing" into a size 16 when I've always worn a size 10. My new goal is to give these clothes to Goodwill before they've faded a bit! Hopefully by mid-summer I'll be buying more clothes - size 12 would make me very happy right now!

I'm like you. I'm in a size 12 and I used to be in an 8 (and a size 6 when I was bulimic. HAHA ouch.) It's quite depressing, just because I don't feel like MYSELF with this extra weight. What I did as I went up sizes was go to the thrift store and actually BUY my new (bigger) clothes from there; it was definitely cost-effective and saved me a lot of money! You could consider doing that, too! Although sometimes it's hard to find nice stuff. Good luck on your weight loss goal. It's unfortunate that we spend so much time thinking and planning our weight loss out, and it actually backfires on us. What kind of exercise have you been doing? Maybe it's just that you don't enjoy the exercise you're doing, and that's why you don't feel motivated to do it. I really want to join a class in your community with a friend - like a yoga/kickboxing/Bikram yoga class. Having fun while exercising might actually motivate you to do it more often. Anyway, good luck to you!

Exercising isn't such a problem, it's the food. I like food, and usually food that's not good for me! I can eat half a cake in one day - and just about did after my son's birthday party! This time of year is really bad for me too because during tax season (I'm a CPA) it's hard to eat decent food when I'm at work 10-12 hours a day. I do pack my lunch as much as possible, but if I eat dinner at work it's pizza or something, or I eat at 9pm when I get home from work. Now that that's over with I can get back to my normal eating habits - which are usually pretty healthy. I'm also back to walking every day (except this morning I had to take my son to the airport). I do enjoy walking, it's also great for stress relief! I just need to get back on track and stop eating the junk.

I think losing weight is a whole lot easier when you do alot of activities with your friends, like when i play basketball i dont realize how much im running because of all the fun im having. But when i just run one mile i seem extremely tired. And i run about an average of 4 miles playing basketball. So it does help if you are having fun and losing weight.

I think sometimes the more we stress about losing weight the more we just put it on. I had the same problem as you I wanted to lose weight and tried so hard and just kept putting it on. In the end I gave up on dieting and just looked at what I ate in a day and kept a diary of it, I then went online and just looked for healthy recipes and tips on things that I could eat that were healthy. I cut back on fat, cut back on portion sizes and stopped stressing about it and I went from a size 16/18 to a 8/10. I have months where do put weight on but I just increase on exercise where I can. I am not one for exercising and so instead I get out in the garden and stuff.

I LOVE to walk for exercise and stress relief. I'm actually training for a fundraiser walk again in October. I don't care for "real" exercise even though for a few months I tried the eliptical. Right now I just have to stop eating everything in site and get back to eating healthy foods again.

Well one thing that I notice from you is that you are resisting you from losing weight. One thing for a successful weight loss is you are doing it not because you want others to be please with your efforts but you are doing the weight loss because you want it to yourself. You are doing the exercises because you love your body to be beautiful. Sometimes the mind and the body should always be in agreement with each other to be able to achieve something. If one is resisting then your efforts will be futile.

Actually, how I look isn't nearly as important as how I feel. I could care less what I look like. But, the fact that my knees hurt from carrying this excess weight up and down the stairs is something that really bothers me. And the fact that I can't tie my shoes without holding my breath, that really bothers me. My back hurting because this extre weight is putting stress on it, that's why I need to lose the weight. Unfortunately, the clothing is a byproduct that I have to content with until I can get some of this unhealthy weight off of me.

It was hard to get rid of my clohtes and harder still to buy new ones. But I didn't have anything suitable for work now that the weather is getting warmer. It's kind of bitter-sweet though. I've got these nice new clothes, but they're bigger than I really wanted to have to wear.

Losing weight quickly is possible, however you will have to use some common sense ore else you risk putting the weight back on or worse, hurting your self. If you lose weight too suddenly you can do serious damage to your body. The most effective way to do is this: reduce the amount of calories you eat;increase your levels of activity. But maybe because the fat gene, someone is very easy to get weight. You don't need be troubled by weight, keep exercise and diet, you will lose weight some day.

Losing weight quickly is not something I'm interested in. That's usually a result of poor diet and starvation techniques. And it usually causes more harm than good. When I stick to eating healthy and in moderation (without starvation) and a somewhat vigorous exercise routine, I will lose a couple pounds a week. That's fine for me, I just have to get back into that mind-set and work on it!

I hear you, and I need to do something myself. I have clothes that fit, and clothes that do not fit. I refuse to get rid of them. Something has to give. I am between 16 and 18.

I knew I was going to have to buy 16's, even though I tried to humor myself and I took a couple 14's into the dressing room (HA! what a joke that was!). My friend that was with me at one point said "You do know where we're going to have to go, don't you?" And I just said "I am NOT going to the 'L' store!" (Lane Bryant) We did go there but I don't think we're quite ready for those clothes yet.

I understand how you feel and can relate only too well. I too am into a 16 and use to be in 5/6 jeans and to be comfortable with loose dresses wearing a 9. I had the same problem gaining instead of losing when trying to lose. I found that if I changed my eating habits making sure I ate 3 times a day so my body does not hold onto the fat from dieting and not knowing when it would get something to eat...our bodies will do this. Also eating a bigger meal earlier in the day so I can work of the calories. I snack on fruit as this helps to digest any food quickly. Many times my breakfast or lunch is a plate full of cantelope. I drink lots of water to assist in the fat breakdown. I add lemon as it breaks down the existing fat. I have lost 17 pounds in a few months time. I also drink slim fast as a treat because it has tons of vitamins and minerals we need. One a day is good. I hope this helps you to be able to lose some weight. Take from it what you can.

I don't really "diet" either, I just try to eat healthy foods and not as much of them. I really don't seem to get "full" so I'll just eat and eat and eat. I have to portion out how much I should eat then tell myself it's time to stop.

You really are the only person that knows what you need to do for your body. The thing is that most people cut something out completely, sweets, bread, or something. You must treat yourself a few times a week but only in very small amounts. My mom and I were on a diet one time that allowed us to eat half a cup of vanilla ice cream. We bought those the store has in a bag in the little cups. I ate mine in tiny bites really slow and it felt as though I had a lot of it to eat and I was satisfied. I have found that I can do this with anything I want. Everything in moderation. I don't diet anymore. I changed the way and how much I eat.

You can do it if you set your mind too it. Thing is, you know what foods are the enemy as far as losing weight. I always stop myself when I go to get a bite or slice of something and ask, ok, am I really hungry? and where is this going to land? lol Once you set your mind to it, and doing it for yourself is number one.......you can do it. I lost 150 lbs 5 years ago, and have kept it off. That is a whole other person! I have recently gotten back into working out, I always walked for exercise.......and I have lost 23 lbs since January. I am only 10 lbs from my goal! and that will be gone in no time. I want to lose that by September.............getting married, for the LAST time in my life! lol And I have to be in shape for my job......wildland firefighter. So good luck, you can do it!

WOW!!! You are AWESOME!!!! I only need to lose 50-ish. I just have to set my mind to it. I know what I'm supposed to eat, and I like eating healthy. I also love to walk, and I've really got to get into the training for my 3-day charity walk. I just really slacked off too much this winter and it definitely shows! Congrats on the final wedding - my "last" one was almost 4 years ago and I'm lovin' every minute of it!

i'm sorry you've been having trouble! I've been trying to loose wieght too - sometimes i do really well 2 years ago i lost like 60 pounds for my sisters wedding and i almost put all of it back on after her wedding to last august...and started trying again..I've got another 20 to go to be back at her wedding wieght. We can be weightloss buddies! This time around i'm finding it helps to write down what ive eaten...it makes me feel guilty about the snacks and less likely to over eat...also writing down my exercise including yard work and stuff. Good luck!

They do say that keeping a food diary will help out a lot. I have done that before and I'm pretty much aware of what I'm eating. I just have to get back on track and eat the healthy stuff for me, not the junk!

I've been doing really well with not buying the "junk" replaced s&v or all dressed chips with tortillas and salsa (i dont consume an entire bag in a sitting because im no where near as fond of them) i rarely buy cookies or cake or anything like that...however if im feeling bored i am inclined to make them from scratch.

As we age we do seem to get larger. I think if you haven't worn those 'skinny' clothes for so long you will probably want to get new ones anyway. Not losing any weight doesn't mean you aren't losing inches. Have you measured lately? Reduce your sodium and sugar intake. Drink plenty of water. Just be happy with who you are and work toward different small goals and don't give up. Good luck.

I used to measure, but I haven't for a long time - I was tired of the numbers getting bigger and bigger. The hardest part seems to be that I already only drink water - probably 8-10 glasses a day - I hardly eat any soduim or sugar. There's nothing to cut out, other than portion control. I've gotten way out of hand with the amount of food I eat and have really slacked off on the exercise. I'm getting back on track though and hope to see some progress soon. I didn't buy any new shorts and I only have one pair that fit me...

Hello. I know what you mean, Hon. I refused to buy any new clothes for along time and I hated it. Drink as much water as you can. The older we get the harder it is to lose. I have a potential meeting with a guy coming up and I am so scared. My pathetic body is not where I want it to be at all. My trainer says not to weigh myself but I am so curious if anything is going on. I have gym clothes and that is about all that fit me. I bought afew things for my meeting with him [if it even comes to be] and that is it. I wish you well. It takes staytoitiveness and determination.

I can totally relate to you! At the beginning of this year I was in a size 18, now I'm down to a size 14 and can even squeeze into an occasional size 12, I'm so happy with myself. I was watching every pound I would lose, but now, I tend to not look at the scales as much as I look at my changing body. I've been very focused on exercising the last couple weeks and whether or not I've lost anything, I don't know, but I do know my body feels good, my muscles are tighter and I have notice that my body is looking so much different. It feels great! I know you can get back into those size 10's again. Don't get discouraged if you don't lose at first, keep giving it all you got and you will get there! If you need any help or just need to talk about your ups and downs of trying to lose then feel free to email me and I will gladly encourage you to keep it up! You can do it girl, you just gotta believe in yourself first!

Hey reiny! I hear ya! I have the same problem! I am also starting to gain again and I still can't stop myself from eating! I go from not eating to not being able to stop myself! I know it is a stress thing with me, but I was doing so good all winter and now that the nice weather is here I am putting on the pounds and I don't seem to be able to stop myself! I am not good when it come to excercise so that sure isn't going to be an answer for me! I just can't stop myself from eating cakes and biscuits! Those are my major weaknesses! What is wrong with me! And now I can't stand to look at myself in the mirror! I don't know what size I am, but I do know that I am going up quickly! I was once a 16 too! And I don't want to get back there either because I threw all those clothes out too!

have you tried drinking slimming tea. i had that problem before... i never stop gaining weight. and then i found out 3 or 4 years ago i have hypothyroidism, which is part of the cause. i have inactive thyroid, and it slows my metabolism, so even if a eat a small portion every meal i still gain weight, and i exercise. i reached 32 inches waist. i tried drinking senna tea, and it has helped me lose weight, i take it every evening. the plus on this is, no matter how much you eat the whole day, if you drink this before going to bed, you'll flush it out tomorrow. it's a laxative and body cleansing tea. also, try what works for your body... what kind of exercise... like for me, running and biking dont work, sit up does, aerobics, dance exercise works...
