I find that it is really difficult for college students to get a job after graduating. One reason is that many companies will prefer an experienced worker even with low degree to a college student, though he or she may have much knowledge.
It is a strange thing. It seems that the thing that many companies value is one's experience, not knowledge. Do you think so?
Then do you think going to college is useful? will you still choose to be a college student or just work early in order to acquire more experience??
Have a nice day!

Hi, look, both are important. Without proper experience you would not be able to channelize the knowledge and vice versa. Secondly theoretical knowledge is quite different from the practical one. And to gain practical knowledge one needs to bend over the theoretical knowledge and in the process one acquires experience and experience itself is a store house of knowledge.

They are both important! but If I must choose one ,I think i would like knowledge,
I think experience ones only can compete with knowledge ones at the same level of the degree.there's many things need the high skill, but not only experience, and I don't think only the experience ones can do the works better, sometimes the bad experience also do much harm, and many big company also employ many workers whowho are just graduate, and trainning them, they are considered as a very strength and hopeful team, they have knowledge and the company them chance to be the experienced ones.

It is true that most of the big companies select only candidates with experience. This is wrong .With their academic certificates the companies should give the freshers a start.Unless they how will they know the capability of the freshers.Ofcourse you can be sure of the people with experience whereas newly applied candidates may give them fear and anxiety.

Hi Happy.
In my opinion, companies nowadays are looking for a degree holder even without any experience at all. And to think that in College, students are required to go on-the-job-training in their different field of courses. Like me, I undergo on-the-job-training in a bank in my college days and to a bookstore. So that's the only experience I have when I am applying for a job.
And now I am working in a bank, not just because I have experience but I am a four year degree holder. If you are not a degree holder I think you cannot find a better job for yourself.
To answer your question, going to college is useful. In our country, even if you have job experience but you are not a degree holder, the job for you is not that better. A degree holder with an experience of only On-the-job-training is sure to have a better job.

Education is very important but having experience is a distinct advantage.
When I was a manager my company used to bring University graduates for interviews concerning open vacancies. In most cases because they had a degree they thought they new it all. No way!. I had much more success employing unqualified youngsters who realised they still had a lot to learn and were prepared to work hard gaining experience. It can often be an advantage having a good education but at an interview you must admit you still lack experience and will be prepared to continue learning.
I left school at 15 and started working immediately. I continued with evening studies but in later years found that my "On the Job" experience had a much greater value. Good luck in your career.

Both are important, but in my opinion experience is more usefull, because make peoples to know real value, and they know what must to learn or not.."life school" is better in my opinion, i saw a lot of peoples who learn a lot, with university, who don t know to take right decisions in life, and this can be take only if somebody have life experience. Of course to have a lot of knowledge...but i will vote for experience

I do believe that experience is very important. I say this for the reason that i have seen people not being able to practically implement what they learn. What good is the knowledge if you are not able to use it ?
Knowledge with experience on the other hand will get you places.

i think nowadays employer and companies appreciate experience more than knowledge... i find that even though you hold a degree but if you do not have experience, it will be very hard to find a job... so a balance between knowledge and experience will be great to find a job... that means, doing a practical work in your field when you are still studying in uni is a very invaluable experience to find a job in the future when you graduate... take care and have a nice day...

we go to college to get experience and with that experience comes knowledge. i think experience is more important cause without the existence of experience there will be no knowledge. for some one to have experience they must have a history of work and with that history they have seen and done lots of things and solved all sorts of problems before. being said that, they can help improve a company better than a fresh-graduate. i think its getting harder and harder to get jobs nowadays and more and more people who are college educated are working in normal clerical services rather than people without degrees working in high end companies. but that's the way life is, its never fair, and unless you have a pretty good resume or a buddy on the inside i think its better if you go work for mummy's or daddy's company.

You can learn just about anything from reading about it in a book......In theory..But Until you get the experience from doing it you are not going to understand it fully, so they are both important. But for myself i think that i learn more by doing something than i do just by reading about it.

In general both the things are inter-related, Like if you have the experience you will have better knowledge. But yes this is also true, that if a person will not get a chance to work, how he will gain the experience. Basically the companies look for the experinece persons because they don't have to waste the time teaching the new joineers about the basic tasks. During college most of the knowledge you have is theoratical and in real life you require practical knowledge. So for freshly graduating student, I would like to say, that grab the job even if it paying you less, take the experince and then move out for a job which will not only pay you more but will satisfy your technical hunger as well.

Its really hard to find a job if your a fresh graduate. Because you have many competitors. In a sense that all of your co-fresh grads dont have that job experience. One thing that might help a lot is your ON-the Job Training at college. There are companies that are hiring fresh grads but they will based it on your On the job experience and also the most important one is your skills. As a fresh grad, at start you should accept any job even you have that very low salary. This is normal when you are in a start. You can't earn millions right away if you dont have that skill that they needed. Once, you are employed try to learn new things by attending short courses. In this way, you will gain new knowledge and a new experience which will boost your confidence in applying to other companies. For me, its really important that you have a degree or simply speaking you finished college. It will be your starting point to earn a living for your future plans. A degree plus a good experience will turn you into a very expensive employee. Expensive in a way that companies are now the one interested on you instead of you running for them. I would still rather choose to be a college student rather than work early without any degree.:)

Knowledge and work experience are equally important. Now graduates are not easy to find a job indeed. But you should be positioning yourself well. For example, the first job you can reduce the requirements to seek work experience, such as work experience you have had ,together with your knowledge, you will be able to find a better job.Where is the gold will be luminous.

I actually think that they are both equally important. I know that one problem we have here in the United States is that a lot of companies want to hire people straight out of college, versus people with experience (who may be older). I am not sure why that is though. You would think that companies would want a mixture of both. And you it seems like someone needs to be hired to get experience, but they don't want to hire someone without experience.

Actually both are equally important. With knowledge we can work in the company and get experience.Going to college as useful as we get practical experience and we make a lot of friends.Going to work is very good because we get experience and we can aim for higher salaries.Without knowledge we cannot do work to get experience.

As far as Im concerned, both knowledge and experience are important in finding a good paid job.I heard that some companies nowadays prefer to employ newly graduates cuz they are like white paper .Its easier for companies to train newly graduate.Job_ hunters with more experience may leave the company after they get what they want.lol I would like to be a college student for a second time.

If i were you, i would choose the job.yeah,i know there are many companies need the experience,i had met the same trouble when i graduated. One day,i went to find the job,but it was sad that most companies need experienced men.Ive written a lot of mail to many companies,no response. Now i remember these,i think it is normal and let me what is the society is.The one way to live in is seize each chance to show yourself, and prove what you are.
One point is,you should learn how to learn in college,i mean, you wouldnt be teached how to find a job in college, but you would know how to work well in a company through the studying in the college,it is the different between being a college student and working only to acquire more experience.

An interviewer or employer should have studied in some college before he/she
started the organization. I think knowledge is more important than experience.
A knowledgeable person can handle critical situation. Colleges need to impart
practical education , so that the student gains both knowledge and experience.
That is why as a part of curriculum , in some colleges , students have interns
with industries.

Hi happyforever
I think both are equally important. People with knowledge are those who are smart and will be able to gain experience due to their intelligence and people with experience are those who have gained knowledge from their experience.
