Have this ever happened to you at WalMart?

I came across this news story about a purchase from WalMart. I can truly say that Walmart customer service doesn't check those returned purchases in those boxes. I once bought a printer from WalMart got home took it out the box and the printer had the ink installed in it and the package of photo paper had been opened and used. This printer had been purchased, returned not checked and put back on the shelf for resale. I took it back and got another one. From that time on everytime I bought a packaged box from WalMart I check and see if it had been tampered with. Have you ever had this problem with WalMart? Read this story. http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/florida-teen-finds-rocks-in-nintendo-ds-box/1308945 THIS IS NOT A REFERRAL LINK NOR A LINK TO A COMPETITIVE SITE.

Hi Chevee! I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart but do shop there for grocheries beecause they're just less expensive, got to save what I can on money. I've never had this happen but at one time I did work customer service at another department store. Now this was about 10 years ago so things could have certainly changed but when we got returned items we did check them but not in depth. We'd open the box and take the product out, especially if there was multiple piece to the item. The department store I worked at wasn't Wal-Mart so I don't know if they have the same return policies we did, I would imagine they would but this is Wal-Mart so who knows. I question a lot of the things Wal-Mart and their employees do.

Just because they have a policy does not mean that it is followed. I know they either get busy or lazy sometimes.

I am always checking the products I buy at Walmart if they look like they could've possibly been open. I hate how Walmart doesen't check the items they take back. I will admit that their lenient return policy is nice, especially if you lose or don't have the receipt. It's very annoying though, like in your case, if you buy a product that has been used or may even possibly be broken. I have noticed tons of packages on shelves before that you can tell were bought and used before. It's really unfortunate. I honestly avoid shopping at Walmart as much as possible - because of things like this!

Well this is interesting. I've never had this happen to me though. I've never had a problem with finding something at Walmart that was questionable. I haven't returned an item to Walmart that wasn't checked over by customer service either before I returned it. So, I'm not sure if it's just certain stores or what.

Hey chevee! I have heard stories like this before about Walmart! They don't want you to open the boxes, but then they don't want to take back the box if something is wrong! I don't trust them at all either! I hate the idea of opening a box before I leave the store, but this stuff happens all too often! I am uncomfortable purchasing any kind of electronic equipment from any store because this has happened in other stores and then they don't want to take it back because they don't believe you!

I can say that has never happened to me. I would be pretty upset to say the least if it did happen. I know they will resell the item but I always see the damaged goods with tags saying what is wrong and at a very discounted price. I check my packages though and even if someone opened it to look inside I won't purchase it. Or if it looks like it fell off the truck when it was delivered I don't want it either.

I can see where that could happen. I've watched them after someone returns an item. They usually through it in a basket and then have someone take it back to a shelf? Anything could be in those boxes?

I haven't had this problem with Walmart, and I'm thankful for that I saw that story this morning and I can understand why the kid and his parent were so upset, that kind of thing should not happen at Walmart or any other store

Yeah, I seen that, and I'm not surprised. Maybe somebody took the box back after christmas for returns to pull a fast one. My brother worked in retail for ten years and he had people pulling crap on him all the time. He worked at Lord and Taylor, and he had people trying to return shirts from Kmart, lol. He had to take a seminar on what to look for on the line of clothing that was in his area, to look for fakes. I'm glad the woman finally got her money back.

sure its not good customer service, but walmart being how cheap it is, i bet you they wouldn't care because its not like their being paid that extra cash to see the returned items. plus people don't shop at walkmart by choice so if you choose not to shop there they'd still have a million more customers, walmart is there for people who need it. then again what do i know. cheers love.

Thankfully, nothing this horrible has happened to me. I have though bought stuff from there and got it home only to find out it's spoiled, torn, or has been opened. I try to check everything but sometimes those things you can't see with the naked eye. Makes me mad that I waste my money on stuff. Here with in the last few months, our local wal marts are getting very careless with everything they are stocking on the shelve. We went to purchase bread from there one day only to find out every single package was cut open from someone being in too much of a hurry and when they are opening things. I've never been a fan of wal mart because it's always so dang packed, never can get in and out fast enough, so we've always shopped at other stores inless we need something that only wal mart carries, then we'll bite the bullet and get other things there as well. In this story, i'd be 10 shades of mad.

I have never bought anything that looked terribly used from Walmart and not known about it. Usually I see things that have been returned and you can tell the box had been opened and in those cases I ask an employee if I can check the item. Although I rarely buy anything that has been returned. I have returned items to Walmart plenty of times and sometimes they check and other times they dont even bother. I guess it depends on the actual employee more so than company policy sometimes. I know when I was younger a woman had gotten arrested at the mall we used to hang out at for trying to return empty boxes or boxes with other items in it to a Sears I think it was so it does happen, more so than people realize. Companies lose alot of money that way so you would think they would be stricter on that aspect.

Nope. because whenever i buy something i always check the inside of the box if the item was complete or broken. You should always check the item before leaving any store. Sometimes the salesman don't want to open the box and let me check the item, i recently get mad and forcing them to take back my money and leave. in other scenes. they don't return my money but i will get the receipt and report it to the policemen or to the store owner to teach them a lesson. IT has a saying that customers is always right if you are right in some situations.

I have never had this happen to me but I have had friends that have had some trouble. I always check on the packaging and pick one without any reg tape on it like it has been retaped. Around where i live they just hire people off the street and none really care about customer service. I have called to ask questions and they all have acted oblivious of what i am asking even on the most simple questions about computer products.

Actually it happens everywhere at any time. I've once seen the WalMart selling expired food. So nothing strange for me. And now I seldom go to WalMart for shopping. And Chevee, please take careful look over what you're gonna buy for to protect your own right, the most important is your health. lol. Good luck.

That is awful, but no, it has not ever happened to me. I do think they need to train the customer service people to look before returning money, and as I remember, around here they do.

I've never had it that bad, but yes they do put things back once they've been returned unless a customer tells them not to. I've had to do that before. I bought a shelving unit for the bathroom only to discover that I couldn't put it together as the packaging had been opened and the screws were removed. It made me so mad, but I can't take it back now, I lost the receipt and would only get store credit. I don't want store credit, I'm sick and tired of Walmart.

We don't ever buy anything that looks like it's been opened. If we decide to buy something, we get a box that's never been opened and open it up to make sure everything is there. We don't ever get a used box because you never know what might be inside OR who put it there. There could be a snake or a razor inside and this gal isn't taking any chances because there are so many mean and cruel people out there.

Well, am glad it did not happen to me yet. But I am alerted with this discussion. You are right!! we must check on the item before buying, specially if it is in Walmrt.. hahaha it might be that some of it are returned items and who knows they already used it? Thanks for sharing this idea.

Hi Chevee, That is disgusting, the staff that works there should have been told off for putting return goods back on the shelf, 'rocks!' that is taking to p. We don't have Walmart here in the UK and I have never had that kind of problem here. Hugs. Tamara

I do not beleive they check anything that is returned. You can seriously return anything to them. I remember being in line at walmart at their customer service. There was a woman in front of me who was returning a vacuum cleaner that looked like it was from 1981 and was all beat up and mangled looking. They allowed her to return it!
