Swine Flu has me paranoid!

The horrible situation we see happening in Mexico and now spreading around the world is indeed scary and so sad - I keep all the victims in my prayers. As we are all learning this horrible illness appears to be coming a pandemic spreading across the globe. Here in the UK the first 2 confirmed cases are of a young couple from a town a few short miles from mine who had returned from honeymoon in Mexico only last week- thankfully they are recovering well from what we hear but there are a further suspected 23 cases already. Those facts are not what made me paranoid however - the fact that I have had an awful cold since Sat night , Sunday morning and did not know about this couple until after I had the cold is what made me paranoid. To set your mind at rest I am now 100% sure that I have a cold, perhaps a mild flu but not Swine Flu although I had myself in quite a panic that I was a victim the other day! What about you , how does news of this kind of illness affect you? Would you have been paranoid like me? Would you have laughed it off? Do you know anyone who is suffering from this disease? Before I go can I please ask that we all say a prayer that the doctors and world health organisation can beat this disease and save the suferers before anyone else dies. Thank you xxxx

Although I live in Texas, I'm not over concerned - yet. Besides Walmart, I don't go where there are large crowds. I am mostly either at my house, my mom's or my job with my client. If I even THINK I'm getting sick I'm not going to my job or my mom's.

When I was panicking I sort of locked myself in my bedroom away from the kids and everyone else. Now I know it is just a cold I still have to stay away from a lot of people just not quite so bad. It is scary that the whole thing is happening but to know that there are cases 5 -10 mins drive away is terrifying! Hugs and prayers are being sent in that direction! xxxx

It worries me also. I live in Florida and I have heard that there are cases here also. I'm not sure where. I need to look them up online to se where in Florida but it does sound really scary. I am praying about it now. It scares me also. I hope that there can be a cure found for this also.

No I don't know no one personally dealing with this disease. So far no cases have been found in my state of KY so that is good. I think yes I would have been concerned if I was having a few symptoms like that of the swine flu I would have rushed off to the doctors and had myself tested. Better safe then sorry, right?

I would have too honey - if my other half hadn't been able to persuade me that the only place i had been that I could have caught it was the grocery store and there are lots of supermarkets nearer where the couple live than ours etc. So now I am worried I am turning into a hypochondriac! Jedis map is fantastic isn't it. I didn't realise that so many states were now affected over there now! xxxx

Yeah, it appears to have spread farther then they mentioned on the six o'clock news when we watched and it is getting closer to our state and it does seem scary. It has me worried because my little sister is sick. She went to the Doctors Monday but she has a cold is all. Thank god.

I agree hun it really is scary when a virus seems to come full force and kill others in it's "path". Today I was at the Hospital getting blood work done for my pregnancy and they had a tv in the waiting room with the some health news show. Their have been 8 cases reported in Canada now which are all in Toronto, Canada (the largest city in Canada and also the biggest airport). Apparently they are only "mild" cases, but still it makes us all nervous. So the second we feel any flu like symptoms especially with me being pregnant you bet I'm running to the Hospital right away my dear! Better to be safe then sorry, plus I don't want anything to harm my almost 3 year old girl, and baby that is coming in October!

It would seem to be gaining strength at the moment sweety but will hopefully burn itself out! You are just being sensible - we all need to do what we can to protect ourselves and our families - I would expect nothing less from you! Hugs and stay well xxxx

None of us can take any chances honey but you most definitely must be very careful! You have the gorgeous Angelina to consider as well as that precious baby we are all waiting to hear more about as your pregnancy progresses! Don't get paranoid like I did but do take sensible precautions! Hugs xxx

In your situation...I'd probably have been pretty concerned...I'm sure I would have. So far this has not affected me personally. I don't know anyone that has it and it hasn't hit close to home. Still...I do feel terrible for those that are facing this and yes...I will include those people in my prayers.

I knew you would keep everyone in your prayers sid sweety! I was concerned but paranoid really is probably a much better word if I am honest - I very rarely get out! I know this sounds petty but I am so relieved to be recovering from my cold as it is my sons school prizegiving tomorrow night , he has done well and worked hard and he would have been devestated if I had missed it! xxx

Keep away from too many folks. Wash your hands and tell the kids to. Kiss only your husband and not mine. You'll be ok as long as you do what you would anyway. Now take a deep cleansing breath (in your own home and away from sick people) I have a health candle lit for the world and have added you my friend to my personal health and calm candle.... in other words I'm sending you love and energies.

Not fair Chimes honey - since we share so much how was I to know you'd mind me kissing your husband??? Seriously though I barely go out as it is so not sure when exactly I though I had caught it but the cold isn't quite as bad now and I realise I was paranoid. Looks like I may be able to go to Nialls school prizegiving tomorrow night after all - he has done really well and would be devestated if I weren't able to go. The map Jedi has put the link in for is really informative - I have it bookmarked now! xxxx

I can understand how you feel, the media don't make things look good in the first place. In answer to your question, no, I'm not paranoid about swine flu, that's partly because I'm an Holistic Therapist and use essential oils on a regular basis, a lot of the oils are anti-viral so that's why I'm not too concerned for myself. I am a bit worried about people at my sons school though as it's a rather large school with over 1000 pupils, I think they'll be ok though. Bear in mind that a huge number of people die each year from 'normal' flu, sorry, don't mean to make you more paranoid. The oils I would recommend to help prevent any type of flu are: Eucalyptus OR Tea tree OR Chamomile OR Thyme OR Peppermint I don't recommend using these if you're pregnant, you should consult your doctor before using any holistic treatment. DO NOT USE Eucalyptus if you are diabetic or suffer from kidney problems. Put some water into a well of an oil burner, then add up to five drops of oil into the water, that should help to remove any nasties in the air. You could also add up to five drops of oil into some bath carrier, then add to your bath water. For any more help/advice, please feel free to ask me. Thank you. :)

Thank you so very much dorypanda! Far from making me more paranoid you have actually helped me , I already know that many people die from normal flu every year and that even the flu jab cannot stop that as the flu composition changes constantly and the scientists can only predict what will happen next! AS for the oils I do use tea tree but at the moment am in need of a new burner so I will make that a priority - thank you! I will continue to use normal medicine with this and I think I am doing all I can but would you have any advice for a 7 (almost 8) year old girl who has had repeated UTI's since she was born? She has had kidney scans etc and is due for a renal and abdominal ultrasound scan soon again as well as she had 4 UTI@S in a few months at the end of last year beginning of this! We always make sure she is clean , wears cotton, doesn't use bath products (they definitely irritate her) she drinks plenty of water and cranberry juice and has a healthy diet yet still the UTI's persist! Any advice would be definitely appreciated as at times it gets very frustrating and overwhelming. Hope you don't mind me asking. xxxx

Aww, you poor darling. I'm sorry you've been so worried but I'm glad all is well. We have no suspected cases that I know of. However, I did come home from town the other day with a throat infection...every time I swallow, it tastes like there is liquid soap in my throat and there is a slight burning sensation at the back of my mouth. It's getting worse and of course makes my tummy feel funny. I have a slight cough and a headache too but I have periods where I feel exceptionally well. I think I've caught a bug of some sort but I don't think it's serious. It's lovely (and typical) of you to think of others as you do. Bless you sweet pea.

Tickle sweety! Mummymo gives Tickle a massive hug and a little smooch! I am feeling much better - just that last clinging bit of blockage and gravelly throat left - thank goodness I don't smoke any more or I am sure it would have been much worse and lasted a lot longer I am sure. I am sorry that you are poorly now and I am hoping and praying that it will get better soon. Love you sweety Hugs xxxxxx

Yes I'm worried sick about this! I have lupus which means I basically don't have an immune system! I have to be very careful in everything I do and where I go because I can't be around sick people that are contagious because I can get what ever it is in a split second. So I've been watching this story very closely because I have to know where it's been and where it's going.

We haven't had any confirmed cases in my state yet, but it seems to be creeping closer every time I turn on the news. My whole family has colds right now so we were a little nervous for a while, but then my husband went to the dr. and it turns out its strep. Were not really high risk because we haven't been to mexico or been around anyone who has recently, but its still hard not to worry when every time you turn on a tv, pick up a paper, or get on line thats the top headline.

To date we don't have any cases detected in our place yet. There was even one Filipino that just arrived directly from Mexico, so far she has no fever and everything. I am crossing my fingers that there are no viruses that could come in although we are as vulnerable as you are there is UK. Let's hope and pray that everything will be okay in the coming days and the virus would finally be beaten. The way the the virus is being monitored is very strict.

So far none here that I know in Winnipeg, MB have gotten it, but most of my friends usually go either to British Columbia, Ontario, or to the Netherlands, and few go to Mexico. I also make sure that I do not get a cold. We have had a severe flu going around and possibly the only thing that saved my husband and I was that we both had our flu shots. But I do wonder whether the shots would work against this virus since it seems to be a species crossover virus and I pray that the doctors find a cure before more people die.

Last I heard it was going ot take 6 months to develop a vaccine but they had medication that helped fight the symptoms when it is caught! WE are lucky that our scientists are so good at developing and tweaking our flu shots every year! Be well honey xxx

I think that we shoud take reasonable precautions but not get our selves into a panic Mummymo. The UK infected folk are quarantined or in hospital. We'll have to see how it develops. But I suspect that this will be another media sensation. There are 61 million people in the UK and there are 5 cases here so far. There will be more I am sure and it won't be pleasant for those that catch it. But keep warm and dry. Don't mix too much in crowded places and if all else fails - have a wee dram! XXXX

Having said that the couple in ?Scotland were home since Tuesday and didn't go into hospital til Saturday night which is quite a long time with a virus like that! Having said that I was still panicking, worse I was just getting over a hangover so am off the drink for the moment! lol Oh and luckily I was getting much better as I had Nialls school prizegiving last night - I wanted to start a post but am behind as I was so sore when I got back I couldn't get online! This is really trouble some. I hope the Virus would be contained soon, because i could we are too many to get infected. but you shouldn't panic unless it really hit you. well, it's a good thing that this virus hasn't hit my country....yet. but news confirm that other swine flu symptoms can't be detected by thermal scanner alone. if that's the case, some may have slip through and that could cause a real problem.
