not exactly stop, but lessen your intake, you may not do it abruptly, but you can can slowly chop down the amount of chocolate intake every day or every week. As you know diabetes is hereditary or it runs in the family, so you should really be conscious on your sugar intake. Just a piece of advice from a nurse, as a support to your boyfriend's concern :)

Well, i guess you should lessen your sugar intake.. my dad is diabetic too and i have inherited the disease at the age of 23.. yay! terrible! i used to munch on sweets before such as chocolates, ice creams, cakes, cupcakes, candies, gums, sodas, fruit shakes, starbucks drinks among others.. now, that i have got diabetes, i am not allowed to eat sweets anymore.. so you better lessen your sugar intake to avoid getting the disease..

Well if you really need to you have to stop but there are chocolates out there in the market, where it is sugar free. Such as Hershey's sugar free chocolate or you could eat dark chocolate which has a much lower chocolate content.

I am in the same boat as you. Both my parents are diabetic and I am told my everyone to stop eating chocolates. I simply love chocolates and though I have cut down on the number I eat every week, I can't seem to stop eating them entirely. Of course what I do is exercise well so that the calories and fat do not build up. Actually I have put on weight too.
