She stayed outside all day

Yesterday morning I had the doors open to get some fresh air in the house. This also allows our dog, Sable, to go in and out as she pleases. When I was ready to go to work, I hollered for her, not knowing if she was inside or out. She didn't sound like she was outside and sometimes when she's inside she just stays where she is and doesn't always come when I call. Since she didn't come in, I figured she was downstairs where it was cool. Well, I was wrong. She was still outside and she stayed outside all day long. When my son came home from work he almost didn't hear her outside and would have left her again if she hadn't started whining to get in the house. Fortunately it didn't rain yesterday like it was supposed to and it wasn't nearly as hot as it had been the couple days before. I've never left her ouside all day before like that and this morning she's sticking pretty close to me. I guess she doesn't want a repeat of yesterday!

Awwww poor sable pup. I bet she was glad to see your son. LOL!! But I have to say that I think the clingyness is due to lack of human companionship yesterday. LOL!!!

It didn't last long though, she's back outside at every chance again! She does come the first (couple) times I call her now!

awww poor baby she probably felt abandoned and abused. I hope she had water out there as it's too hot to be out without it.

No, she didn't have water - we NEVER leave her out all day like that. She did have shade though, so I know she didn't get too hot. I'm just glad my son went home between work and the viewings it she would have been out there over 12 hours. She came runnin' when I called her today, I think she learned her lesson.

If they just had opposable thumbs and could open the doors themselves. Then they would not end up locked outside all day. My cats are that way. Boy are they insulted when I finally get home, if Dad has left them out more than they think is reasonable.

Oh, the funny part is that she has a doggie door, but she refuses to use it so we don't keep it open any more. If she would just do that she'd be ok and could come and go as she pleases.

I can say it's happened so you are not alone. One of our last snow storms out house cat got out. She was outside during the storm and a few days later we found her. She was pretty thin, but she survived. I felt really bad for her, but she wondered outside on her own. I called for her the day before the big snow hit, but I think it was too windy and she couldn't hear me. Reading this back a person would think I'm a bit obsessed, but she's blind. We got her back and fattened up again. She looks healthy, but she still tries to get outside. I think it's that fresh spring air that our animals just want to be out in it.

I'm so glad you got your cat back, that was probably pretty hard on her. Although we do our best to take care of them, sometimes they do their own thing and mess it all up!

You're cute little Sable. What kind of a dog is she? Anyway, I've actually had the exact same thing happen to me with my dog. I didn't know if they were outside or inside or where they were. I could hear them but I figured they were in the garage. Nope, they were outside all day. And it was a pretty chilly wet day. I felt terrible when I got home and found them outside. But they were having a ball in the snow. They were pouncing in it and chasing each other. Even tackling each other into the snow drifts. Too funny! Hopefully your little Sable is ok now! Its so cute that she knew what would happen if she didn't come inside right away.

She's part boxer, part golden retriever. I'm sure she had a great time, but there's no couch out there for her to sleep on!

Poor puppy if she's not used to being outside all day! My Bischon Shihtzu stays inside most of the time during the winter (or goes to visit my parents) and during the summer she likes to be outside when I'm at work. She also spends alot of time at my parents house when my dad is home. He's VERY fond of her.

That's great that your dog has somewhere else to go during the day so someone can keep her company. My husband wants to get another dog so sable has a friend. I really don't want 2 dogs.

I have three dogs actually. A bishon shiatsu - she's 3. A Cocker Spaniel - He's 18. And the third i didnt really want to get however i was having problems with timberwolves and coyotes coming into the yard since my old guy started to go deaf. The third is a 2 year old Husky-border collie.

I adopted the third from the spca and i seriously wonder sometimes if someone abused him because certain tones he just drops and cowers or he wont come and he sure doesnt like guys.

Hey reiny! Oh, Poor Sable! It was pretty hot here! I guess she thought she was going to stay out for awhile and have some fun! She must have lost track of the time! That's what she gets for not coming when her Mommy calls her! I think she learned her lesson! How cute! So today she wasn't taking any chances!
