Ever feel guilty for being on computer?

I was wondering if anyone has every felt guilty while being on line at the computer. Whether it be myLot or just some other site which could require a lot of your time of course depending on how much time you dedicate toward it. I stay at home with my son for the better time of the day of course until he returns to school. I do try to spend time with my family and I find it easier during the day to do some work on line while I have full use of the computer. I don't really feel too many feeling of guilt because I try to dedicate time for my son when I get the chance.

When I have a really good computer game to play, I am completely addicted. I used to feel really guilty, but don't now. My partner is happy watching TV, and he watches a lot of snooker and cricket, which I have no interest in, so he is happy to watch on his own. I justify time playing by completing housework - 2 hours playing, then 2 hours housework - well that's the intention anyway!

Thank you katsalot for responding. I appreciate your comments. I also play some computer games but it seems that I spend the most time here at myLot. There is usually something interesting going on here where discussions are concerned and it can really be fun. I realize that we all have our priorities and have to set a limit for ourselves to some degree so that other obligations don't fall to the way side. That is good that you are able to find a certain order in completing housework and still being able to have your time on the computer. Take care.

It sounds like you have your priorities right antiquelady. You get what you need to get done and then you can sit and work on the computer at your convenience. I think that is a good way of looking at things. I have a son that I need to work around and I am happy that I am with him each day but I do have to take a break from the every day monotony and go on line for some fun and a little extra cash. That is why myLot is such a great site to correspond with others and have fun along with making a little extra income. Take care friend and thank you so much for joining the conversation.

I try to pick the times that it won't interfere with any important chores. I would feel guilty if I neglected any important things. So, I try to watch that and be wise about the time and do not spend all my time on the net.

Thank you eaforeman for the reply. I can see where you could feel guilty if you neglected the important things. It seems that the replies I have been getting pertaining to my discussion have shown that most people are staying on top of their other priorities while being able to dabble on the computer here and there during their day. As I have made mention before I believe, I do have a five year old son and I make sure that he is alright and other obligations or duties that I have are taken care of. And then I can concern myself with having fun on line coming here to myLot or playing some of those on line games. Take care friend.

I spend a lot of time playing games on the Internet. Sometimes I feel guilty because I let housecleaning go until I get around to it but I rarely get around to it. I like to think that I spend my time the way I choose. There's no reason to feel guilty about it.

That sounds like fun to play games on the Internet. As a matter of fact I also play games on line every once in a while and I even involve my son with some of the things I do on the computer. The computer can be a distraction sometimes when I need to get other things done like housework and caring for the family. Of course I know what is important and what I need to do. I just thought I would raise the question as to how many people might feel guilty about being on the computer too long. That is also good that you are able to spend your time the way that you choose and I certainly can respect that view point. Take care joyce and thank you for replying.

I have nothing to do really. I look for work and then come here or I crochet and look around and think maybe I will clean again. Well, at least start so I do I clean the things I always clean. The Kitchen and the bathrooms. Then I was a load of my son's socks as his feet smell. I hate it when my house smells like his feet. So now I have a rule for him I got one of them baskets with a lid and I put a box of dryer sheets in the bottom. It is working. The living room and dinning room I hate cleaning. But I like being on comp. sometimes. Ok I have to go I'm just talking and going on and on again. Have a good day. So no I don't feel guilty. Have a great day

Thank you Mikaela for the response. I appreciate where you are coming from and the fact that you don't feel guilty for spending your time on the computer. I have the computer on a regular basis but it is usually on a limited basis. I try to keep my priorities right but I find the computer can distract me. That is pretty much the reason that I try to get my household duties finished before even thinking of getting on line. That is good that you are able to spend your time with family and that you have your priorities in order. Take care.

only when I know I just be doing a bit of housework and I am not the computer, but if I don;t go on the computer I can't make money and then I wouldn't have a place to live so I do not feel that bad about it.

Thank you friend for your reply. I realize that there are some people out there that need to go on line for making money and making a living. I can understand your point of view. It seems that you are pretty active on the computer and it serves to make a way of life for you. I wish you continued success here at myLot and I really appreciate your honesty. I have also received some other replies here that show a lot of intelligence and honesty. I just thought that I would ask this question to get an idea of how people feel about being on the computer regularly and if there are any feelings of guilt for perhaps being on it too long and shirking any other duties. It seems that a lot of people spend their time wisely on the computer while being able to tackle other obligations in their lives.

I live alone so I don't have to feel guilty about the time I spend on the internet. But I feel a little guilty when I ignore the housework. I also feel guilty when Gus brings me a toy and I tell him just a minute, let me finish this. He's always ready to play tug or chase the laser light. He looks forward to dinner time when I stop working!

Gus is my Boston Terrier! When my children were growing up they had all my attention. Like you, I spent all the time I could with them. They're both in college now.

Hi dragon. How are ya? You are alone and don't feel guilty about time spent at the computer. Well, that can be a good thing. It is nice that you have a circumstance that works out well for you. I can see where ignoring housework could make someone feel a little guilty. That happens to me sometimes. Sounds like Gus has a good time with you. As a matter of fact, I used to have a cat named Gus! What a coincidence.

I don't usually feel guilty, but if I know I have a pile of college work that needs to be done for the next day and I am sitting on twitter refreshing then I feel bad. However on the other hand if I am not in the mood for college work then it will not be done to a high standard and I will just have a mental block and nothing will get done and I will just stare at a screen.

Thank you Elixiress for your reply. I can understand that you don't usually feel guilty about being at the computer. I just thought I would ask a general question as to how many people ever feel that there is something else they should be doing. In your case it seems that you have a lot of college work to do and it can sure pile up I can imagine. I never went to college but sure wish I could still get the chance at it someday. I commend you for the effort that you put in. You definitely need the support of having a computer to help you with your studies. Sometimes it takes encouragement to get things done and the computer can sometimes make you deviate from some of the things that you need to do. I really wish you the best of luck with college and your studies. Take care.

Kelly- I can't say guilty, but at times I grow tired of it. I use it for school quite a bit, so being on for pleasure isn't always a pleasure just because I don't feel like being on it lol. I take time off for my children, so I try not to neglect time from them when they are up. I also take time off when my husband is off work so we can spend time together. Namaste-Anora

Thank you Anora for your reply. I would have to say that I don't really feel guilty being at the computer however I can grow tired of it. There is just so long that I can be doing something on the computer until I figure there is something else productive I can be doing. I can appreciate that you do take the time to spend with your children and you do have time for your husband also. I just feel that times have changed so much since I was a younger girl. There was a time when there wasn't anyone e-mailing or instant messaging. We all just talked on the phone or went outside and played or talked to our neighbors. And we all got along just fine before today's modern conveniences. Don't get me wrong though. The internet is a great bridge to being able to gain access to pertinent information and help for every day things. The problem comes in when being on line for too long could also create problems for family members that could possibly feel neglected if a parent or loved one is monopolizing it too much. Take care friend.

It sometimes happens that we just want to do something and others want us to do something else. In such a situation we have to take right decision and it might happens sometimes that we may not take the right decision and that may make us guilty in the future. It has happened with me few times when my friends called me for going out somewhere else and just avoided them and preferred to watch some movie at home. But they showed me there pictures and literally I was really frustrated that I didn't went out with them.

I used to feel guilty all the time when i was on the computer, not so much now though. The thing is i was looking on the computer constantly looking for ways to earn money from home so alot of the time i had to fill in a long registration form. Then it took alot of time trying to get the points to show what you had been on the computer to proove to the husband i wasnt just being lazy.As you can guess yes im a stay at home mum and my husband works two jobs and thats just to keep a roof over our heads.I do try to spend time with all six of my children but at the same time we need all the extra money we can get. With me being on the computer it is my way of providing things for my children no matter what small amount of money i get from the computer.

Hi bamakelly I can't say I have ever felt guilty for being on the computer as it is one of my hobbies and I enjoy it. Once you balance your time between your family commitments and your hobby time there is no need to worry

I feel guilty sometimes when my kids dont wanna sleep at the time they need to cause they prefer sit beside me and watch what i am doing infront of the computer. Sometimes they ask me to type site where they can play their favourite games but i just tell that what i am doing is more important until my kids got slept beside me and the other in my leg. Also when i woke up at 6am the first i normally do is to open my computer until i forgot that i need to cook first or do a slight house chores but good thing is i make sure to have food before my kids gets awake.

i don't feel guilty at all. my part time work online requires no commitment and my child knows that he has just to ask if he wants to play kiddie games on the net.

i forgot to add that my child, most of the time, prefers me away from his tv for i tend to laugh at his impersonations of the kiddie characters he watches. he's just 3 years old.

i think i am because i also get those unwanted feedback from my mom, telling that i indulge myself to much in the computer. Yes, frankly i am. But i think i am on a right stand since, it is summer and i dont have anything to do, so i better keep myself busy at home than going out to other places. And this is also to stop my boredom.
