What is your preferance and how do you decide which is going to be what? Do you follow the same system each year or are you changing it? Why is this your preferance?

freezing fresh fruit and veggies is way easier than canning them, in my opinion anyways. all you have to do is wash them off and throw them in the freezer, of course, there are some fruits and veggies that you cannot do that to as they get mushy.

For best results you do need to blanche your fruits and veggies. It stops the growth process and holds them at the very peak of freshness and ripeness.

You don't need to blanch everything though. Blueberries and strawberries can be just put in bags. There should be a site online to tell you what needs to be blanched.

i like freezing better, that is easier for me to do. I never did learn the art of canning. I have seen it done but I have never tried it. My grandmother used to can a lot of things, but when I got out on my own I bought me a freezer and I have been freezing every sine.

My parents still can. They have always canned but are very careful and know what they are doing. They can the three day dill pickles and they are so crisp. I would not mind having those. Appreciate the response.

If I would decide to do this I would freeze things..canning takes too much time...seems like more space to store and it heats up the kitchen too much...I did alot of canning while growing up on the farm...won't do it again!

Looks like eryone is agreeing about this one. I would think it could be exspensive to buy all the canning supplies. Appreciate the response and I am leaning towards only freezing.

Hey there, gurlfren! Long time no see! I've been busy crafting and selling on etsy. Mostly I freeze things. I used to can but it is so much more time consuming. I only have a small garden and therefore I don't like dragging out all the equipment for canning. If I had a big garden, I probably would prefer that. Your food lasts almost indefinitely then and I kind of like the flavor better on some things (tomatoes especially). But for now, I will mostly freeze stuff.

Hey Girlfren! Your right, it might be great with a bigger garden. I dont think I would like my kitchen to stay that hot, trying to can. Freezing sounds like the best way to go. Best wish's at Etsy and appreciate the response.

Freezing is so much better than canning. I used to can. It's a lot more work and sometimes the jars didn't seal so I ended up wasting a lot. Also when you can you cook a lot of the nutrients out of the food. Freezing has a better result, the color and the flavor is so much better. Plus it's a lot less mess and expense.

I think after all these responses that we are agreed, to go with the freezing. You have made the points to really consider, who wants to sacrafice the nutrients? That alone would make me decide to freeze. Appreciate your help in this discussion.

I think canning is a lot of work. I prefer freezing because then I know the stuff is still good when I go to use it too. It takes much less time to freeze things as well and its much easier to do. Although, every year I do love to make a few jars of mustard relish..Yummy!..and green tomato chow! Delicious on baked potatoes with sour cream as well..Now your going to have me planting an abundance of tomatoes again.

I think it is easier to make a mistake canning. I feel safer with the freezing too. I also prefer the freezer because I do not want so many glass jars. Appreciate the response and have a great time mylotting!

All I have done lately is Freezing as I never seem to have the time to consider even trying any canning. I know that things usually will keep longer as in freshness when you can over freezing, so that is the Best way to do things, but it also depends on the extra time you have to do things as well.

The freezing is alot easier and you have to have room to can. Room for supplies and room for all the jars too. The freezer bags seem small in price in comparisom to canning. It would be nice to have both nowadays.

I like canning the best. I just love the whole process to canning. I do freeze things too but I don't find that as rewarding as the hard work I put into canning.

That makes it nice because you can have both. Your right, canning is hard work. It is wonderful to know and can help pack the pantrys. It is great when you have a farmers market to go to for bulk and bushel purchases.

In the past I froze most everything, because I did not like the heat of canning, and I could only can acidic things because I had a waterbath, but not a pressure cooker. I do can jams and jellies and pickles and relishes if I make any.

My sister cans the jams and jellies and they are so good. My dad cans the fig and strawberry and the fig mixed with lemon and they are fantastic. Appreciate the response.

I think I prefer canning to freezing for some things. If you have the space, you can can lots of stuff. You only have so much room in your freezer to freeze stuff for later, plus hold your every day kinda stuff.

I would like to make jelly. It is not hard and my sister made the best jellies. That would be my next canning job. Appreciate you sharing.

I usually freeze my food but that's really just because I've never ben taught how to can. I think it would be better to can because it would keep the room in your freezer free. My grandmother used to can tomatoes and I remember they were just as fresh a year later as they were when they came out of the garden.

There is alot to canning not to mention the supplies. It has to be done exactly right. I know that the supplies to can have gone up also. Some people just do not have the time.
