Books or books on tape?

I have recently gotten some books to listen to in the car. I don't know, it just seems that it is not the same as curling up with a good book. I can't get lost in the story if I am driving along because I have to pay attention to what I am doing. I have been known to sit down and read a 500 page book in one sitting. I guess I read faster than someone can read to me. Do you prefer reading a book or having it read to you?

I prefer books. I cannot get lost in a book if I am listening to someone else reading the book to me. I like to just sit down and read the book myself. I love reading and can't get enough of it.

I would rather listen to music while I work too. It is soothing.

A little bit of both, when I traveled for my job I used to listen to books on tape all the time. I miss that.

I guess if you got in the habit of listening to a book while you were driving it wouldn't be as distracting. Thanks for giving your opinion.

It really depends, most times I prefer to read myself. I read much faster than any audiobook can read to me. I'll try following along with the audiobook and find myself three pages ahead of the person reading. However there are times where I can't read by myself for whatever reason. (Sometimes a headache, or maybe I just got my pupils dilated at the eye doctor's) Then I can listen to an audio book and still get my book fix.

I guess I prefer reading myself because if I listen to a tape, I get distracted by other things and then realize I haven't been paying attention to the story.

Hi Jabeau...I know it's nice to curl up with a good book. However for some people who spend a lot of time commuting it's a wonderful invention that you can have books on tape now. I know my brother used them when he was going to school because he had a long ride and an even longer one in traffic.

I prefer reading the book myself. I couldn't drive and listen to a story being read to me. Like you, I have to concentrate on my driving. I prefer listening to music while driving, myself. I don't know how you can read a 500 page book in one sitting. You must be a fast reader and a good one I bet, too. I like to read, myself, but it would take me time to finish reading a book with that many pages. My eyes get tired for one thing. Kathy.

My favorite books are mystery types or thrillers. I get so involved that I just have to find out what is going to happen next.

I know what you mean. Depending on what I'm reading, it's hard for me to put the book down once I've started reading. I like westerns, romance novels, thrillers, gothics, self-help books, the bible, biographies, and dramas. I used to run a bookstore, as a matter of fact. I had it from 1984 to 1986. We had to go out of business, though. We just didn't do any good. I really miss it, too. I enjoyed having my own business. It's just hard to run a business these days. Not only did we sell books but we rented movies and vcrs, too. Kathy.

I prefer to read myself. I read very quickly and I get bored when someone is reading to me. I can't focus on the story, especially if I'm driving or doing something else. I guess it's something you could get used to, but when I am driving I prefer music and I prefer to read my books while sacked out on the sofa.

I am an avid book reader there is nothing I love more then curling up with a good book and escaping into new worlds and living through the eyes of the charector telling his/her story.I could never listen to a book in a car that would be dangerous as my mind would wander too much.I listen to books when I am sick though. While I do love listening to people telling me stories and tales I prefer reading them as I have my own rountine.
