Do You Vote When Its An Election?

India

Today its a voting day for the Parliamentary Seat of Lucknow for the Parliamentary Election 2009 in India.I have just came back after voting and I was disgusted with the fact that my neighbor despite coaxing failed to join with me to vote.To me this is an unpardonable sin , not to vote in elections. People in general keep blaming the elected Goverment for every misery in public life but when there is a time for public to choose Government they choose not to assert their right to vote.A government is made in central on the basis of 50% voting so its very unfair on the part of the public to complain the government for their own ills. What you all think of it? Why people dont vote?

It is not a sin to not vote. However I feel that if they choose not to vote, they have no business complaining about the way the government isbeing run. They choose to not make their voice heard through the voting of the people. Voting is a choice and a right. If people choose not to vote that is on them. Nothing you can do about that.

I usually did, but I didn't vote during the voting day this year as I got really important work to do on that day and I couldn't vote outside my region. However, I was not too disappointed as there will be another vote for the president next two months.

Hi there! Yes. I always vote whenever there is an election. We will be having a national election next year, I think, 2010 here in the Philippines and as of now, I am in the process of getting to know more about the candidates, their positive and negative sides. I think that everyone should also do so. I believe that it is important for us to vote and I am not losing hope in our government.

I agree that voting is our duty as citizens of our country. I kind of feel guilty. I have never exercised my right to vote ever since I was of age to do so, but I'm planning to do things differently next year when we have our elections. My vote may be just one vote, but I know that it will make a difference.

Hi, I have so far voted in 2 elections .I was to vote for a local MCD elections in April 2007 .That day,I went to vote in the morning .However, the voting machines were out-of-order and the voting officials had no manual alternative . My company did not had a holiday that day and hence I did not had the time to wait for Voting Machines to get in action. So,I had to go to the office and could not vote . However,I do plan to vote this time and the company is giving 4 hours Time-off to do so .

Well ,for these companies Profit and Business comes before anything else. Employee convenience is perhaps one of the least concern for them ;especially in such recessionary times .

By Voting one becomes a part of the process of change. It doesn't matter what is the end result but your exercising of the right gives you right to question things.

Look there are varied opinion. Before this loksabha poll I have seen many initiatives taken by many channels to pursue people to vote. But I rarely think that all our votes count so much. Like in my constituency, I do not even seen face of any candidates. They may make us deaf now with false promises in election campaigns, they are never there to see what misery we are facing all these years. I do not like any one of them. Can you say, whom should I vote???

You are seeking candidates who are representing some political party but apart from them their are numerous Independent candidates who stand but no one votes for them and this discourage good candidates to fight an election. Why don't public vote for a good man who is not representing any party at all , so that party should think over with the choices they put in front of the voters to elect.

Yes, I vote whenever there is an election. Right from the day I became eligible, I ensure that I vote. Even if I am out of town, I make sure, I go back to vote. People dont vote because, most of them feel that it is not their duty to vote. Also because they are fed up with the false promises made by the politicians.

Getting fed up with the system and as an answer not to vote cant be justified at all.If we are not making a statement by choosing some or voting for someone whom you think is lesser evil, even then it says some thing to the candidates and political parties be forced to choose good candidates in future.

Yes!i always vote in all the elections.Municipal, assembly or parliament,I use to vote in each and every election held.It is out duty to vote and elect the right person. Some people are vexed and say that whoever will come will do the same thing and why should I vote? That attitude should be changed.Even if they don't want to vote for anybody, they shall use section 49 O.Cheers!

Ya the people who doesn't vote not have ant right to speak anything against the govt. They are as much responsible for the condition of our country as our political leaders. And voting % is generally bellow 50 in most of the regions.. the day it increased, we will see a significant change in our representatives as mostly the people who are more educated quit voting.

The reason for low turn out is mostly the non participation of educated or effluent class who are very good at giving opinion sitting in their drawing room but when they have to exercise their right they just ignore it and blame the system.

When it comes to voting, which is once every four or five years, the one day most people are doing is working. I think that a lot of people are tired, unwell, or too lazy to be considering walking down the road or travelling to vote in a voting office. Also because of the way political parties are organised, nothing really changes which ever party is in office.

Nothing ever changes? I dont buy it as the History keep telling us that things do change may be that change takes it owns time to change or its much more tougher than what we perceive but just not participating in a process of it, cant be the answer to all ones miseries.
