I just heard this on the news how Egypt, which has NO cases reported of any Swine Flu problems is going to give the go ahead to slaughter 300,000 pigs/swine due to the recent fear of the Swine Flu pandemic...How stupid is this. We are being told we do NOT get the Swine Flu from pigs themselves or eating pork, but is spread human to human contact. Remember the famous Bird Flu scare? Countless birds including chickens were killed years ago in many Asian countries where the Bird Flu originated thought was thought NOT to be linked to chickens but usually wild waterfowl, and in this case too, the flu was not a result of direct contact with many birds but spread via human to human contact.
Here's a part of an article I found...in which it states too "It is God’s grace in his Islamic Sharia to permit all that is good for us and to ban what is bad. We could understand the wisdom of the ban, or we could not understand it. But eventually time proves the truth of God’s words to us," Sheikh al-Sayed Askar said at a Muslim Brotherhood-sponsored symposium on the virus.
[i]The Government’s decision came a few hours after the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s largest opposition group, said in a symposium on the health scare on Wednesday that swine flu is "more serious than the hydrogen bomb."
The Brotherhood - which, although banned, is Egypt’s largest opposition bloc in parliament - voted for the cull, and said that the swine flu outbreak demonstrated the wisdom of the Islamic ban on pork.
"It is God’s grace in his Islamic Sharia to permit all that is good for us and to ban what is bad. We could understand the wisdom of the ban, or we could not understand it. But eventually time proves the truth of God’s words to us," said at a Muslim Brotherhood-sponsored symposium on the virus.

Yes these pigs are raised for food consumption and therefore would be eventually slaughtered....but isn't this crap a little extreme?
Is some nutcase in other countries going to declare the killing off ALL pigs/swine en masse in other countries all because this flu is named "Swine Flu"? HOW frucking asinine is this?
Gee just think...if suddenly a "flu" was named "Cat flu" or "Dog Flu" would there be massive killings/slaughter of all cats and dogs in the world? Give me a break.
Oh, and I just LOVE how in the statement this Sheikh al-Sayed Askar is implying its "God's will" to kill these pigs/swine en masse. Yeah, blame God --no blame stupid MAN buddy

Pigs are swine. Two different names for the same thing.

that is where it originally came from
but that is not how humans are getting it
its transmitted from one human to another
you cannot catch it from eating pig!

True. It actually seems to be a combination of swine, avian and human flu from what I've been able to find out.

Hey pye! I thought Muslims don't eat pig meat anyway so what
are they talking about? Is it just an excuse to murder pigs?
I know that they don't eat pork because I had a very close
friend that was Muslim! And supposedly the poor pigs have
nothing to do with the name! It was just unfortunately named
the "Swine Flu" and has nothing really to do with pigs to
begin with! This is just plain sick and wrong, just as the
Muslim beliefs are! They have nothing better to do then to
kill the pigs that they don't even eat for food anyway! Damn
them! May they all go to Hell! Don't take your frustrations
out on animals that don't deserve it! This has gotten so out
of hand!

You're right Muslims don't eat pork, just as Jewish people don't but the pigs are raised in Egypt for the tourist trade and for the Coptic Christians that live there. Yes, the poor pigs have nothing to do with the Swine Flu outbreak, it just has the misfortune of being called Swine Flu...now they are renaming it H1N1 flu...like duh, why didn't they do that in the first place?

Well, considering that the NEW testament says in Matthew 15:10-20:
Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand. What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.
There is also the verse that commands us to not call anything unclean that the Lord has made pure.
I believe that the ban on eating pork is from the old Law and once Christ came the law no longer applies.

That would be the same as murdering all the Asians in the world because of the 'Asian flu' or all Spaniards because of the 'Spanish flu'. STUPID!!!
I read that article, too. Whenever someone says we must do something because it's "God's will", it makes me think that the people who say that are psychotic or something, hearing voices. If it was God's will, God would kill them all. Isn't God supposed to have that power?
There are extremists in the world and it's a shame that some of them are in power and able to create such major disasters.

I know, I read that article yesterday. I thought to myself that is how animals become extinct. I know they are scared, but this is very sad too.

I think this is a real case of over-reacting to much....you don't see people in Mexico, where the flu originated killing off all the pigs there

I agree with you.It is really stupid to do that.Sometimes fear makes people out of control.Imaging that if I raised a lot of pigs ,I were of course worried about swine flu.But I would invite some experts or doctors to give me suggestion.I think it is brutal and wasteful to kill so many harmless pigs.

Yes fear does make people do a lot of really stupid things and killing all these pigs really is outrageous

That's what you get when you let religion meddle in the business of governing a country. You go back into the dark ages.
Can you imagine what would happen if the US government was run by the church?

It's amazing how people's brains seem to close down when something like this happens. Every time there's a shark or crocodile incident in Australia, there's an immediate outcry for all sharks and crocs to be hunted and slaughtered! The vigilantes go @peshit and it's on for one and all! People need to calm down and put their brains to use for a change - the world's gone mad!

We all have our beliefs and traditions and many probably look rediculous to others looking in. It is sad that ignorance goes along with it so much as well. And, maybe in their corner of the world something like this is like a hydrogen bomb. The pigs will be wasted. It is asinine. I am not blaming stupid MAN buddy or anyone. Just ignorance.

Hi pye,
This world is full of stupid people and the the people in Egypt need fid out things before they kill animals, well never mind killing dogs and cats, because they do anywhere, this is a human flue so why didn't they call it that? then the Egyptian might startr slaughter people, I think not. I can't understand these people what so ever and yet agoin the poor anilmals suffer.
Bright Blessings.

Great article, surely the pigs are not to blame for this disease, it is some mess up cover up from some scientist in America surely. Totally inhuman government policies to kill pigs/swine.

That is way way too extreme.. even though this swine flu is spreading pretty rapidly, killing all the pigs isn't going to stop it from going there cause it didn't start there. People travel from country to country each and everyday, so it is only a matter of time before it reaches every place in the world. There is simply no way to stop it from spreading.

that is crazy... i know that people are scared of the swine flu... but that doesn't mean that all the pigs have to die because of that... otherwise, they will become extinct soon and we won't be able to eat pork anymore in the future... it is just weird and sounds very ridiculous to me that people are doing a massive slaughter to the pigs just because of the fear... i agree that it is a little bit extreme to me too... poor piggy... take care and have a nice day...

Swine flu is caused by greed to begin with. Over crowded farms with animals kept in poor conditions. Meat industry is to be blamed for.
The latest action is as stupid as the whole farming. Years ago farmer used to have 1-3 pigs kept in healthy condition feed with natural food....
Scientist tried to warn us for so many years. Crazy cow, bird flu and now swine flu...all from domestic animals...
Now, slaughtering of 300K pigs makes me sick to my stomach...
As you may remember I love pigs, such smart animals with sense of humor and loyalty.
Too bad many people see just pork (!!!)
It is insane....and pigs are not guilty.....

I think that as an animal love that it is very sad news. I remember the foot and mouth disease when countless cows were killed in my home country. It was a sad time and there was a ban on people walking along rural footpaths. Countryside was off limits. It was annoying and when I went to New Zealand the authorities gave my walking boots a clean. I eat a vegan diet because I love animals and like to eat healthy food. Swine flu is spread by human contact so I say the Egyptian shouldn't kill the pigs. I know if a dog or cat flu spread across my home country pet owners would be furious. I have two dogs and would be incredibly upset if due to dog flu I was forced to have them put down.

"god's will" interpreted by humans...seems like things get lost in translation.
i wonder what they would think if other livestock had a finger pointed at them, would they kill off all those too and starve? but,i guess that would be god's will too,if that's the case.

that is just stupid!
it sounds to me like the muslims are just itching for an excuse to get rid of pigs
are they that hard up to kill something?

It's not much different then when people in the UK were killing cows left and right as precautions against Mad Cow disease. People do crazy things when in a panic. And we all know how many religions use God as a way to justify their actions, calling themselves righteous. It's why I'm not a part of organized, doctrinal, dogmatic religion, and won't every be a part of it again.
