May 1st. Labor's Day.
Today, we celebrate the feast day of Joseph the Laborer, the Carpenter, the Provider, the Dreamer, the father of Jesus, the husband of Mary. And so I went to church.
I have always admired the man; he portrays a lot of roles, which all boils down to his love for Mary his wife and Jesus his foster son. Foremost, he was a dreamer; a man who followed his dreams. in the scripture, the angels had communicated with him through his dreams, and he even when he was told to wed a woman who was pregnant with who-knows-Who, even when he was supposed to bring his family out of Bethlehem in the middle of the night, even when he was told that Jesus will not be his forever, he still followed these seemingly weird advices, all the while doing the best that he could for the family that was not his. He fought for Mary, he taught Jesus everything he knew--he was a Carpenter. And he never complained...one bit. With all the names that was given to him, he was, most of all, Jesus' mortal father. And a mortal man Providing for a heavenly king is something. Because of this, I admire him.
There was once an author who asked if it was Joseph who made the table that Jesus and the disciples used for the last supper. He was, after all, a Carpenter.

religious or not, i only hope that workers from around the world would start to recognize that they are given recognition, just for setting one special day for them or us, workers). that people would actually celebrate the day meant for them, and not stress themselves out by going to the streets for rallies. i don't know about your part of the world, but labor day here has all lost its supposed meaning; all that's left are complaints.

i see, thanks for the info. there's the missing link between the man and the reason why we celebrate "labor's day" on this day.
and this should have been what people should be thinking--and celebrating--on labor's day, not some rallies and demonstrations!

May 1st is Beltane. We welcome the sun back and celebrate the rites of spring. Fertility is an important part.
In my family's case we will celebrate the simple abundance of our lives, ask for the "fertility" or growth of the love of our family and it's needs, we will work in the garden and hope the ground is fertile in it's fruits and vegetables.
Many traditions are tied to this day depending on faith and religious path.
May your day be blessed... and may all know their simple abundance.

That is interesting. Labor Day here is in September and St. Joseph's is celebrated in March. My friend has a St. Joseph's altar every year.
