Well here in Minnesota they use a salt and sand combination on the roads in the winter to melt the snow/ice etc. Early April they go by sweepiong the streets clean using various vehicles to do so. First a tractor with a steel brush sweeps it clean. That's this photo. Then a regular street sweeper then a final sweeper to get the last remains. A dirty and dusty time. I was lucky as the wind was blwoing away fropm my house sending the cloud of dust across the street. Does the city etc clean your streets in a like manner in spring? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Yes our city does clean the streets maybe just twice a year, and they dont do a good job at all. They only go down the street one time. Yes it is very dusty when they do it too. I was driving one time and they were doing the streets and my windows were open , I had to shut them fast so all the dust wouldnt get in my car.

Our city used to go around and clean the streets with the sweeper truck. I used to love to watch it when I was little and my kids got to see it and liked when it come around. Now our streets are never cleaned with a street sweeper. Our city just thinks of money and that's it. They are even wanting to change and pick up garbage just once a week instead of twice.

Or garbage is picked up just once a week. Recycling is picked up every two weeks as well. I compost a lot so we never have a lot of garbage anyhow. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We have our street cleaned periodically, as well as the drains, but the sand/salt combination they also use here to melt the snow and ice is left to get washed away by the rain, which we get plenty of! lol. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Not around here, but we do not have winters as bad here in Missouri as you do in Minnesota. In the city when I lived there before they did street sweeping once a month though.

Your lucky where you live, I don't think they do that where I live, our roads and streets are bad here, they need to take better care of them.

I live in a small town and there is a street sweeper, but it just keeps up a lot of noise because I really don't see that much use it is doing?

PS. I mean that much good it is doing. Now when they come along with a bush hog and cut the grass and bushes down along the side of highways I can see a lot of good there.

I am not sure whether there has been anyone worried about cleaning up the streets like this around where I live. Since most of the streets in a lot of areas have construction work on them going on, it means they are removing this stuff that way for sure. I just really wonder which is the Best way to do things like this to save $$ on people and roads for sure.

I really don't know which is worse, the town cleaning the streets or the landscaping companies cleaning the parking lots of business and apartment complexes! The dust is unbearable. There is nothing better than leaving the comfort of your car to enter a sandstorm! The grit gets into your hair, clothes and mouth! Great stuff to breathe in also.

well, since we didn't even get an ICE storm this year, we didn't have anything to clean up - but the sweeper came by a couple of weeks ago, for all the good that did no, when I lived in east Austin the sweeper TWICE dumped a load in front of the house I rented - the first time I didn't do anything, but the second time I called the city. A supervisor came out, saw what I said was true, and had them shovel it up.

OMG AGB I bet you are glad the wind was blowing in the opposite direction aren't you? Our council does send the road cleaners out but I have never seen them this dirty, then again we do not have as much snow as you guys do! xxx

We don't have snow or ice on our streets - but we sure do have a lot of potholes lately! The Council truck comes past and patches them up now and then ... but after a bit of rain they tend to sink again. It's a neverending job!

Hey Grandpa Bob! Hell No! They don't clean anything here where I live! They just cry how they have no money in this very corrupt city that I live in Yonkers, NY! Remember that name! We have tree branches that are hanging so low that if there is a really bad storm again they will hit the apartments or the cars or someone! And the City doesn't care! We have been after them for years to cut them off! But, no! They just let them get worse! One good wind storm and that's trouble!

In our city, there's no heavy snow this year. But early in 2008, we encounter snow disaster.Sweeper swept the streets day and night by vehicles or themselves,in order to keep streets clean and expedite.
