Beating your head against the wall

For the past several days I have had a strange visitor. It started one morning when I woke up to the sound of something pecking on my window. As I looked over I noticed this little brown bird flying at the window as if he was going to come through it. He would land on the window sill and look through the window then launch himself toward it repeatedly.
After a few minutes of this he left and I figured he had come to the conclusion that he could not get in.
Later, he came back and went through the same procedure again. He's been doing this for several days now and I am starting to get used to it.
Actually, I am phobic about birds and avoid them whenever I can, but that's another story. This poor bird has got me feeling sorry for him. I have even started thinking about buying some birdseed and a feeder to put in the window for him.
Why do you think he keeps hitting his head against my window?

He probably can't see the glass and keeps trying to fly through it. Try hanging a sun catcher or something in the window with some color and see if this will work.
Looks like this little guy is curing your phobia :) I raise parrots and they are amazing! Good luck with your new little friend.

I wouldn't go so far as saying he is curing it but I do feel sympathy for him. I will try hanging something so he will see that something is there. Although personally if I kept running into something I could not see I would quit running that direction. Go figure.

Hi savak03
Maybe the little bird wants to come in for tea
Either that or he is a headbanger and is rocking and rolling on your windowsill. But it is nice to have a little feathery friend visit you every day and good to know that you are looking out for him even if you have a phobia about birds.

Yes, well, actually the window is already broken with a big hole in the middle that we have covered with clear packaging tape. If he was to get up high enough and start pecking on the tape he could probably break through but so far he has only knocked on the lower part below the tape.

I'm sorry to hear you have some kind of phobia about birds...I never did, and actually have had pet birds and at one time even helped raise baby sparrows that would fall to the ground...uh, actually the local kids found them and gave them to me to care for until they were old enough to release into the wild again. I actually did take home study courses via Cornell's Laboratory of Ornithology in Bird Biology and Bird Photography.
I don't think it would hurt for you to set up some kind of bird feeder with seed in it...only problem is, is that it may also attract a lot more birds--why are you afraid of birds? Just curious--if you don't want to tell me here you have my email.

When I was very young I had to stay at my cousins house for a while because my grandmother was having cataract surgery. These cousins took delight in scaring me and picking on me. They had a parrot or parakeet, I can't remember which now, that they would let out of the cage when I came into the room. This bird would always fly at me and land on my head and get tangled in my hair. It would then panic and start pecking me and flutter around. Of course the more I screamed the more the poor bird would panic. Anyway ever since then I have always been phobic about things that fly.

OOOkay. I've looked around my room and I can't imagine what he might be attracted to. No mirrors or other shiny surfaces. Just a lot of clutter, mostly books. Maybe your right maybe banging into the window gave him a concussion and now he's addled.
