Cats can use the toilet?

My sister got a kitten last year and instead of litter box training it, she trained it to use the toilet. And it worked. When she first told me this idea I thought it was nuts. But it works. The kitten is now 6 months old and will use the toilet. No it will not flush. She has to do that for the cat. But still.....I am not thinking about trying this with my cat. She is three years old so I do not know if it will work. Has anyone else tried this or heard of it? Does it work for older cats or only kittens?

Hi lilwonders...I thought this was just a movie joke! But good for your sister and hopefully it will work out for you too!

She said she bought a kit that helped her do it. I am going to try and find that kit and buy one.

i wouldn't recommend it for kittens, they might fall in..
but yea, they can, they actually sell something that fits on your toilet to help train.i had one cat that started doing it spontaneously-i guess he figured out why people did it,and decided he'd try that too.

that's cute. I wish mine has just decide to do it on her own. But I am going to try and teach her.

I know someone who not only trained their cat to use the toilet, they also trained him to flush it after going!!! It should work on your 3 year old cat as well. I've never tried it, but I have read a lot about it. It sounds easy to do.

I think she said she hung a fuzzy ball from the handle & every time the cat used the toilet she'd flip the ball & the cat would swipe at it. Eventually the cat learned to go & then swipe the ball. She moved the ball down a little until when the cat swiped the ball it caused the handle to go down & the toilet flushed. After several times of the cat flushing the toilet, she moved the ball up onto the handle. Then the cat would go & hit the ball on the handle & the toilet flushed. Eventually she took the ball off & the cat kept hitting the handle. It was amazing to watch. The cat would run back & jump up on the toilet set, turn & squat & do his business. Then he'd turn around & hit the handle. He then would strut off as he knew he had done something good!!!

Yes, it works. I have a friend who did it. It's quite easy to train a cat to do this and I would think a 3 year old cat could learn to use it just fine. Here is what you do.
1. The cat has already used to learn the litter box, right? Start moving your litter box a little bit each day, don't move it to far at any one time because you'll be missing with the poor thing. Cats like their things to stay the same. Any how as you're moving it, you need to move it closer and closer to the toilet.
2. Once the cat is using the litter box that sits next to the toilet, do this for about a week. Buy the insert for the toilet. This insert hold cat litter and the cat learns to use the litter box in the insert. Now this may take a couple of weeks but most cats will realize they can sit on the seat with their booty above the box, they are a very clean animal. Once kitty learns that you can remove the insert and wa la, kitty uses toilet.

I have tried training Jimmy have his "needs" in the real toilet. He learnt it fast, but i did not let him anymore, cause he really likes to dig and with this way ,i was taken this opportunity from him.He did it,but i do not think he liked.Watch on my profile my blog, that is for Jimmy and training lessons for kittens. My opinion is that cats are really samrt and i believe an old cat would learn it if you have patience, but it is not necessary!

my cats is three years old and big so I think she would not fall all the way in and drown. But I would worry about a kitten
