My toddler son really loves books and I think it is never too early for a baby to start to adore books. I will be his second birthday later this month. I have been thinking what to get him for his special day. I have just decided to get him a tidy book case. It is one that is made especially for children. It shows the front cover of picture books. It can fit up to 86 books. It has all the letters of the alphabet on it is many different colors. I think will look great in my home and make my son enjoy learning to read when he is a bit older.
Do you remember getting an interest in reading?
Did you have many books when you were a child?
Where do you keep your books nowadays?

I think that sounds like an excellent gift for his birthday, maximax8. The best gift we can give our child is a love of reading.
I do remember getting interested in reading as a child. I remember the things that influenced me the most was the adults around me loving to read and reading to me. I had quite a few books as a child. I had the whole Dr. Seuss collection and loved them. Nowadays, most of my books or in my guest room, I have 1000s. Love my books!

Giving a child an interest in books is one of the greatest gifts you can give. I have never been able to count the amount of books I have. My father used to say 'learn to read, then read to learn'. He also told me you could go to many places through books, even places that did not exist. I learned to read when I was 3 and don' think I've had many days since then when I have not read.

Yes, I had loads of Enid Blyton, Rupert and Noddy books when I was a young child. Mine were in a bookcase too so that I could just go and get whatever I wanted to read and settle down with it. I was also taught that when I'd finished with the book, that I was to put it back in its proper place on the shelf before selecting another. It was good practice in preparation for going to the library.
Brightest Blessings, my friend.

I think the gifts of reading and music are the best things you can ever give a child. I couldn't live if I didn't have books and wasn't able to read them ... our house has several large bookcases, and hundreds of books. My husband doesn't read at all - so they're all mine! We also have a cupboard with all my children's books in it - I'll probably donate them to a school or library when we retire and move.

we do not that luxuary of having books to read, that is children's books.my parents could not afford to buy books for kids and in those days- long back days of sixties there weren;t many choises.as i grew up after i was 18 years i was exposed to reading books other than text books for exams.then i have started reading what ever is available thru friends and what ever we could buy of the pavement shops in bombay.we have collected over the years lots books, two racks full of eight feet high.my daughter also started reading and buying now she has added two more racks to our collection.now there are lots books to read for every age group.parents have enough money to spend for children's entertainment.if u are not going to scold the child for reading other books when really gets in to this habit of general reading when he has to prepare for exams by putting aside the novel he was reading u can encourage the child to develope this reading habit.okay.

Hello max, a book case sounds just right for your toddler. My kids had a lot of books when they were young. Reading is a good hobby for young ones to develop. Reading skills can be learned at a very early age, and helps an inquisitive mind ask questions and take in valuable information. I had to leave my books with my kids when I left Australia, but a lot were donated to The Salvation Army.

I did not have a lot of books when i was small... they were mostly school books or my fathers old books that i took from my grandparents house... so that i have other books to read...
When i was in high school... i started buy second hand books... and some friends would give second hand stuff as gifts... and those that i cannot afford to buy... i read them in the library...
Right now... i am trying to develop the love for reading to my 3 year old... we have a specific reading time before going to sleep where i actually read... and she looks at picture books and make up her own stories...

Hiu Maxine,
I learned to read very early ( I was about three) and since then I have read all my life. I don´t remember a time when books were not part of my everyday activities. I had many books when I was a child and I have many books now. I have made special book cases to put them. But, as I say half jokingly, I would have had to go live somewhere else for lack of space if my family and friends weren´t such good book stealers.
I think your idea will be a wonderful present for Leo.
