Have you ever fainted? (Warning: Not for the weak at heart)

What was the cause?
I haven't been mylotting for the past few days due to being sick with a bad flu since Friday (5/01/2009). I wouldn't doubt if it was the swine flu, though it wasn't confirmed. But I had severe diarrhea and vomited for several hours Friday night (and a few times Saturday as well). Yeah, I know, gross, but that's why I put the warning up ).
Anyway, late Friday night/Saturday morning I was having one of my "moments" at the kitchen sink when I felt really hot all of a sudden. I took off the sweater I was wearing as quickly as I could. After I did my arms went numb, then my legs. The next thing I knew I came to while laying on the kitchen floor. Yep, I had fainted. I don't know how long I was out for, but I don't think it was for too long. All I know was that it was midnight because I looked at the clock that was on the wall overhead.
Well, here I am a few nights later, still weak, but gaining my strength back. If it was the swine flu, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Between the throwing up, diarrhea, not being able to stomach any food (eating it and throwing it right back up, but certainly not wanting to), and being pretty much bedridden, it is a flu that leaves you feeling like you've been on a really bad carnival ride that you wish you never got on. The only difference is that this flu is even worse than that.

Hopefully it wasn't the swine flu that got to u, if not u are gonna be qurantine at home for at least a week or so!!
Well, i have never fainted before so far, and thus i wont know how the feeling is like.. hehe ^_^ BUt there are times whereby i almost fainted due to dehydration as well as hunger.. Those feeling of gonna faint can be very sudden and it depends on our willpower as well.. If one really holds on and dun wanna faint, it's possible to do so, but it's gonna be very difficult.. hehe ^_^
Hopefully, u will be able to recover from your flu soon, as it's not a nice feeling to be sick for too long ^_^

I've tried to use willpower in the past to not throw up, though it almost always failed. However, with the fainting I didn't even know what to expect as it's never happened before (at least, not that I can remember) so I couldn't even try, even if I had wanted to. But with being as weak as I was I don't think it would have worked anyway.

I wont be able to control, if i were to throw up too.. hehe ^_^ BUt there are always symptons to look out for just before one faints.. Such as giddiness, or a sudden feel of weakness and blurred vision.. ONce u experience any of that, stop whatever u are doing immediately and sit down, that will prevent u from fainting as your body is now in relaxed mode..

Goodness, I do hope you get to feeling better soon.
I have come close to fainting a few times, but do not believe I have ever actually passed out.
The most vivid memory of such a spell was from when I was 16 and was at my aunt's wedding. The church was very crowded and there was little to no air flow. I told my mother that I was feeling strange - and I was shaking all over and got hot and sweaty all at a sudden. She said YOU ARE GOING TO PASS OUT and forced me to put my head between my knees. After my episode passed she took me outside for fresh air.
I recall the feeling as being frightening.
my son was sick last month - major sinus infection - around his eyes so they were bulging out as well as other sinus pockets were just filled with infection.
Anyhow, he lives in a boarding house (going to school) and when he was praying night prayers with the other kids he just toppled over.... out cold. They said he hit hard, but was only out for less than a minute.

Thanks Modestah!
Passing out can be a very frightening thing. However, I didn't have time to be frightened. I passed out before I even knew what hit me.
I have to ask, what exactly do you mean that your son's eye's were bulging out? Like they were popping out of their sockets? I didn't know a sinus infection could make the eyes do that. Weird.
I hope your son's feeling a lot better now!

Sacmom, how are you feeling right now? I hope you will be well before Mother's day. My mom is also sick. I also fainted before while at work. I just feel numb all over and when I woke up I found myself in a small clinic. My lips are pale and my hands was color violet. The doctor said I was low blood, he recommended me to take Iron.

I'm feeling better, though still a little nauseous. I can stand for longer periods too, thank goodness. All that bed rest was driving me crazy! But my body knew it was needed and I for one wasn't going to ignore what my body said.
I hope your mom feels better soon!

It seems that your symptoms are serious. As usually a flu won't lead you to faint. Do you have a fever? I think the fever is an important sign to see whether you have the swine flu. So far I know that the swine flu will have fever, cough and other flu symptoms. But since you are feeling so badly, I do suggest you go to see a doctor. I don't think you are having the swine flu, but I am concerned about whether you have some other problems.
I love China

I probably did at one point, but I didn't get to check. The thermometer was out of reach. It was hard enough to get up to puke and use the bathroom. Other than those two things I was pretty much in bed sleeping.
I doubt a doctor could do anything for me now. I'm feeling better anyway. Plus they are so damn costly. I tend to avoid them like the plaque, though if I was getting worse instead of better I'd probably be seeing them by now.

It sounds terrible. You really should have been checked out by a doctor to make sure it isn't that new M1N1 flu.
I have never fainted but my husband blacked out in church last month. I was up on the altar saying the Prayers of the Faithful when I noticed another parishioner crouched down next to our pew. I read the first prayer, looked up and saw two people trying to hold my husband up. I forged on looking up after each prayer and holding back tears. When I got to my husband's side he was not speaking. His eyes were open but he was unresponsive and sweating profusely, then he vomitted. He looked like was having a stroke. Scared the living sh*t out of me. We left in the ambulance together and is still undergoing tests to find out what is wrong. He doesn't remember any of it from the time I went up to the altar until the priest annointed him, which was just before two people helped him to the back of the church. He, like the "man" that he is, keeps brushing it off as nothing but I keep telling him he doesn't remember it and he didn't see what I saw. I know the symptoms of a stroke and he seemed to be having one as he told us later he was feeling very tired and his shoulders ached; he got dizzy and fell forward. I know that if it hadn't happened in a public place my husband wouldn't have gone to the hospital. I am grateful it happened where it did. The people of our church have been very, very supportive.
Seeing as you passed out, I really think you should see a doctor. This is a really severe flu bug you have and I think if you saw someone else going through it you would insist that they see a doctor.
Hope you feel better soon.

M1N1? Where did I get that from? H1M1. I'm sure they stand for something!
I saw that my husband was in good hands. I was not supposed to be the one reading the Prayers so I feel that my being up on the altar instead of next to my husband when it happened, happened for a reason. The guy who helped him probably wouldn't have seen him fall with me standing there, and I wouldn't have known what to do. The Priest came to the hospital later in the evening and called me a "real trooper".
Glad to hear you're getting better.

It was terrible.
I don't know how you were able to finish like you were. I don't care where I am, if I saw my husband like that I wouldn't be able to hold back any tears and I would go over to him immediately. Same goes for my kids.
You're probably right, but I'm more stubborn than most. However, if I was getting worse instead of better I'm sure I'd be seeing a doctor by now.

I'm so sorry that you had to experience this yucky flu.I hope that you are feeling better now.
Let's see have I ever fainted yep I think three times in my life. I'll tell you about the first time I ever fainted. I was pregnant with my first child and they had me fast for 24hours to do that 3 hour sugar test. Yuck. But I drank that stuff that they gave me and my eyes wanted to bug out over the amount of sugar yuck, and I went in to get the first hour of blood taken and the nurse one couldn't find a vein and kept poking me and then when she decided to use a butterfly needle thing it came out so slow and then I was telling her that I felt hot and that I was starting to see grey the last thing i remember is these two army nurse guys rushing to catch me before i passed out. LOL!! When I came to they had someone escort me to a room where they finished the testing and then told me I wasn't allowed to drive and that I needed someone to drive me home and take me to get something to eat. go figure.

Don't you just love tests like that?
I didn't faint from any of the tests they did when I was pregnant with either of my kids, but they had a heck of a time finding a vein and my arm looked like it got beat from all the bruising. Same goes when I gave birth. They put an IV in my arm just in case it was needed, but it took a few tries to get it in. Even though it was summer I ended up wearing a sweater after I got home with my oldest as I didn't have any other long sleeve clothing at the time, just so my family wouldn't see the bruising it had caused. I didn't want them to get the wrong idea, especially with my dad being a cop at the time.

I have passed out a couple of times. And the reason was my anxiety. I stress myself so very badly that I actually have diarrhea and throw up. I just literally worry myself sick. I can imagine that you felt like real crap. I hope that you are feeling better now though.

I am feeling much better, thanks. And I'm sorry as well Cortney. I don't have an anxiety problem, at least not as extreme as yours, but I believe I've made myself sick at least once before from worry. And I have to say, it sucks!

Sorry to hear about you fainting due to anxiety. Do you have anxiety/panic disorder? I've been battling that for years, but thankfully never fainted due to it...while I still have "it" I have it under control thanks to listening to Lucinda Bassett's Attacking Anxiety program--and nope don't take meds for it

I actually do have bad anxiety disorder. I am on disability for it. I can't seem to get it under control. Sometimes, I can't even get to the grocery store. I haven't passed out for it for a couple of months and am hoping that I don't, but who knows.

Yes, I have this sort of experience before... way back to high school time, I was having a super duper painful monthly period experience... I felt really really painful when we were having an assemble on the ground under the sun, I just get fainted and fell down on the floor... that was awful, all I was able to see was a piece of gray then I fainted... by the time I woke up, I was in the sick room! That was kind of scary.

I had this one time, I'm looking for a job and roam around the hot city of Manila. I went into buildings and buildings and I had this interview waiting for the rest of the day. With the hot sun outside and cold aircon inside the building, I fainted when I was walking my way home. Glad to have a friend with me, he bought me to the nearby building and the security guards gave me a glass of water. After that, I felt better.

I am so happy to hear that, I know you must have been so scared, just to suspect swine flu is scary, glad al is well, wish you the best. fainting must be scary for people that actually been through, one day at this clinic where I worked, one of the patients bumped into me so hard I mean really hard, when I turned around I can tell something was wrong with him, the nurse said it was his blood pressure, I can't see how he made it to the clinic like that. so scary.

Please be very careful! If you had hit your head, this eould have been serious, even fatal. Remember Natasha Richardson? I know that it's hard, but do try to stay in bed if you are feeling weak. I had a flu New Year's Eve and into the new year, and it was hell, so I know how it feels. I hope you feel better soon!

Goodness. I wish you an accelerated speedy recovery from this.
My story is not quite as gross. Back in 1968 my mother married an army sergeant and at the age of nine, after living in California for as far back as I can remember, we moved to Germany. There I had periods of high fever that produced interesting hallucinations - for example, looking at the dry wall walls with the random patterns that seemed to be animated as I stared at them with the fever I had.
The second tour of duty upped that up a notch with a grand mal seizure, circa 1972 -
I was in English class. It was the lunch period, and they scheduled it interestingly - the period was not the usual 60 minutes, but 90 minutes. 1/3 of the school took their lunch in the first mini-period of 30 minutes, 1/3 the next 30, and 1/3 the last 30 minutes. This particular year, I fell into the middle, I take the first half of the English class, take 30 minutes for lunch, and finish the same class.
Something was happening during the first part. There was construction on the property, and I already knew sawed wood made me feeling funny but, being the typical male, I thought I could handle what was coming.
WRONG !
I remember I was seeing a flashing light on the upper right corner of my vision, but then it moved on it's own, exploding multiple times as it moved to the right.
I woke in the nurses' office with a headache. They put me on dilantin, and took me off when I was no longer under military care, at 21 years of age.
No one knows what caused the high fevers in my youth...
... No one knows what caused the seizure later in my adolescence ...
... and there is no one who is interested in finding out, and I do not have the resources by myself to find out.

some people are more suseptible to fainting than others. I have a friend who faints almost weekly if she doesn't get enough sleep and proper nutrition. I once got up to quickly from my bed and ran to brush my teeth and take a piss (doing both at the same time), and then I had this black fog like thing pulsating from the sides of my eyes and I knew something was up, so I tried to run back to my bed with no success. I fell on the floor, dragging a computer monitor down with me.
