When do you know when to stop using newborns diapers. My son is one month old and he weighs about 11 pounds now. I have been using pampers swaddlers are those are real good with his controlling leaks lately today I notice that he is leaking though his diaper more. Is it time to switch to size ones, I looked at the package and the size goes up to 10lbs. When do you know they are too small?

hi there. Congratulations on your little boy. As for my experience, when my daughter was around that age, she was bigger than her usual size. The weight range on the package of diapers where just the right weight for her but it still leaks. I used pampers also but then I had to switch brands. The problem that time was not the size but rather the absorbency of the diaper. I tried switching to the next size but then it would still leak because its not the exact fit. I suggest you try same size but different brand of diaper and observe if it leaks or not.

First off, contratulations on that lil boy! Second, probably so. Especially if he is starting to leak. His tummy is holding more food and so he is peeing more. The smaller diaper isn't able to control as well. I know my granddaughter is just a little over 21 lbs, she's a year old and I have her in size 5 diapers which are for 26 lbs and over. The diaper is a comfortable fit for her and I don't have to worry about her leaking.

You can tell if it is time to switch to new diaper size by experience. One way is to see that the tape has enough length when fastened. Then the cut of the diaper should have enough width on the back side to avoid leaks. You can also find out by checking the weight of the baby and weight listed on diaper packs. New born size can be used only for one month.

Id use them until the current supply is out then move to the next level up. I think that when my kids got to the larger weight the diapers recomended they tended to leak more or overfill. I think that a bit to big works better then a bit to small all the time with kids.
Congrats on the baby and good luck.

Hi errica...We have always gone by the weight of the child. It's usually comfortable for them and you won't have as many leaks if you get the size for the weight. As soon as the baby hit the middle of the weight range of the diapers we would change the size. If I were you I would definitely have a box or two of the next couple of sizes in the house if you can. Congratulations!
