You do watercolours? That is great. I never quite got the hang of painting with watercolors but I think they are really pretty. Donna Dewberry is a self-taught painter that made the one stroke painting really popular in the U.S. using acrylic paints. You double load the brush with a dark and a light color so that when you paint the shadows and varibles of the color are all added at the same time. It is fast and turns out very pretty.

She also uses water colors to do the one step painting depends on what surface because on her pbs show she will make a mistake on purpose and just wipe it away you can't do that with acrylics. If you are upto it som time get some chalk crush some into a powder state and do the painting and see what happen it is very pretty.

I've heard of this gal, but I've never seen any of her books. I've always wanted to learn to paint but have never been in the position to take lessons. When I make cards I'd love to be able to do some painting on them. I'll have to look for a book on Amazon. Thanks for sharing this tip!

I like to paint but unfortunately I am not very good at it at all caribe. Thanks for the information on the site, because I will go and have a look at it. There might be some hope for me yet, and I do need another hobby or outlet for the "creative genuis" hidden somewhere inside of me. :)

Thanks, ossie for bringing this discussion by up. It is really quite easy to do and you have instant gratification. I think everybody has a "creative genius" inside them, they just have to find what it is and let it out and anybody can do this. I have heard Donna Dewberry's story. She said she had a limited income and children at home and she didn't have a lot of time or money to decorate or buy gifts so she started this method because she found it to be quick and easy to do and it looks great.

I hope you can find something available in Australia. That is problem for me too here in Nicaragua. I brought with me the practice sheets and paints but I an not sure if buying paints here will work because they are a little thicker paints than normal, not much, but just a little thicker. Also, having the right brushes are very important too.

I have actually gone to her site on the internet to see what is available. Send an email regarding delivery to Australia or if she has a agent here etc. I think that the cost of postage to me would be a bit prohibitive but also prefer to get something like this from someone who comes recommended. :)

I absolutely LOOOOVE this painting and Donna D. I watch her on public television and have not yet gotten a kit per se; but I have paints and brushes(thanks to my sweet daughter) and I have painted most anything that has some blank spaces on it LOL!!! My trailer has 10 double windows in the livingroom and storm windows attatched; I painted them!!!! As well as my outside front door. I have had a lot of comments on them.I dont think I am very good yet but hey....practice makes perfect huh??? And no matter how untalented you think you may be; with this method and instructions, you can be poppin out roses and other flowers and things very quickly!!

I am happy to find that there are other "one stroke" painting fans here on myLot. I was beginning to think that all of them were too busy painting to get on mylot. Isn't it so much fun? I haven't learned how to do palm trees yet. Maybe I will get to it soon but only if I spend less time on mylot. LOL

that is so very true, and Donna's instructions are excellent, and practice makes perfect. There is some of my eariler stuff i thought was so good, that i cringe at when i look at them now. But i sold every one of them at a garage sale. I would like to encourage you to keep it up and keep excelling. Push yourself to try new things. You will find something that you just love to paint and you will be painting it all over everyting.

I haven't bought any of the kits per say...I have all the brushes, lots and lots of paint and the teaching sheets. I have 2 VHS tapes as well. I have painted a bit and love the results but I have a hard time with the roses and some other flowers.

I don't always get the leaves looking right either. I have a piece that I did with lilacs and leaves that I am very proud of, however, I haven't been able to do the leaves since then LOL Go figure...a one time thing.

I love to paint and depending upon time frame I am quite good at it I done a few billboards for some business owners here in town I did a computer size to show them what it would look like when I was finished I had so much fun doing that. The biggest one I did was 24 feet by 24 feet and the colors were a sun yellow and black bordered with a shade white and around the letters a hint of red.you can do anything that you really want to do painting is all in the eye of the beholder kinda like beauty and the great thing about most crafts is if you make a small mistake nobody will know unless you tell them.I am glad you like to paint and that you enjoy her work I watch her on pbs and she does some amazing things.I have not bought anything she has done or written.I like to learn new strokes on my own.Your picture is very pretty.

I couldn't paint a straight line if I had too! LOL I have a LOT of friends who are artist and they have all heard of her. I have never heard her mentioned in conversation, but I asked them about her. They had nothing but praise of her work. I like the picture and was wondering if maybe I could learn from her technique. Of course my artist friends had no opinion since they are so above this technique. So, I may look her up and see if I can embark on a new adventure and paint something!

I hope you try it. It takes a little practice to get the hang of it but it doesn't take long and you can paint some very beautiful flowers and you will amaze yourself. Her method is easy and you are painting in the color graduations effortlessly. You really don't have to be talented to pick it up. Let me know after you try it. There are classes you can go to in some parts of the country for her technique or there are video tape and by now there are probably dvds. I know that iqvc.com carries her stuff in kits. Good luck.
