I have noticed that fewer and fewer people have common sense these days, and it is very frustrating. How about you? What do you think?

I've heard the phrase, "There's street smarts and there's book smarts". If common sense is street smarts, then I think both are equally important in the world we live in now.

Nice comment. Thank you. I never had a computer until I started university, then I had to learn how to use the technology or else I wouldn't be able to get my assignments and such. I guess there will soon be a third part to that saying, about technological smarts because you can be book smart, and have street smarts while lacking in the technology department lol.

That's the truth! The world keeps getting bigger and more complicated but without that basic foundation of common sense, I don't know how a person can survive to get to the point of book smarts and techno-smarts. But stranger things have happened.

Very true. It seems to be very uncommon these days. Maybe it's time they named it uncommon sense.

You certainly may call it that. Common sense says that it's time to call it uncommon sense ha ha ha.

One of my favourite subjects.... no it is very rare.....
mainly because people are judged by what they learn from text books and how much they can maintain... I was always quite dumb at school but my parents taught me common sense....there is a big difference and I feel common sense wins every time...

Good question, what's the common sense? all people have one different idea. This can change in the time, place and social reasons. I think.

Great point! what is common sense in one country, may not be in another country.
For example, in North America, it is 'common sense' to use toilet paper to go to the washroom.
While in India The purpose is served by using the left-hand. (Now I don't know if that is in all of India, my friend told me that was common practice when she went visiting India a couple of years ago).

I'm sad to have missed the simple life. If the world as a whole would have maintained its common sense along with the technological advances, then there could possibly be the accessibility and ease with technology, but foods ( animals fruit, and vegetables) that were still real ie. not genetically modified, or pumped up with steroids

It amaze me how many people have no common sense these days. Just a little common sense could save your life in certain situations. xx

Yeah, like the common sense to look both ways before crossing the street. I'm teaching my 2 1/2 yr old that now. I am holding her hand of course, but I make her stop, look left, look right, and then tell me 'no cars' or 'cars comming' even if there isn't a single car to be seen in sight.
Too many people I see when driving or whatever just stroll along walking whichever way, and then get mad because a car is coming, or don't even bother to hurry up across the street when they are J-walking they force the car to slow down, or even stop which is going to be hard soon as all of the snow and ice wil make it difficult

Don't you ever feel that your patience runs out after a while?
I can handle it to a point, but when you have to keep explaining the same thing over and over, it gets beyond annoying for me. I would rather work by myself when that is the case, because then I know everything is either done, or not done, not half as sed done

Its true, common sense needs to be taught by our elders, and we spend less and less time with older people as children

I would have to say no. I know I'm not always doing the right thing but I'm human. Sometimes I think common sense should taught in school. Is that even possiable?
