Do your cats wear collars?

Two of mine did for a while til my big guy grew out of his harness collar so then I took one from the other cat. Well we were at the store and saw some decent ones that were inexpensive as I have been avoiding paying a premium at the pet store for them. Well 2 of our cats are black (all 3 are siblings from different litters) and hubby was having a hard time recognizing wich of the girls were who. Though if you listen to their mew it's different and the younger has a white patch on her belly & one by her collar bone. Eitherway the girls are having an interesting time adapting to them especially the younger one who's never worn a collar. Though I figured it was time as the kids will be going in & out of the house and if they get lost hopefully their collar will be there so if they are found we are notified. So do your cats wear collars? All the time or just seasonally?

Hello, snugglebunnies. I don't have a cat but a friend of mine who has one made a home made collar. but after a few months, he had to take it out because it was too itchy for her. I talk to him about buying a collar but he wouldn't listen, he said the collars are too expensive for him. but he kept on reasoning that the collar is too itchy for his cat.

Hello 3Snuggleunnies My Tommy boy never wore a colar, but I did but a kitty necklace on him, I just thought it was addorable, it was green and it had a bell at the bottom, that way we always new where he was at, because the bells on his kitty necklace will ring.

That's true. But my cats sound like elephants during the night as it is I dunno how well I'd appreciate hearing a bell ringing when I'm trying to sleep as they romp around.

My Sunny, ginger kitten, wears his collar complete with bell and tag all the time as he likes to go out and play in my neighbors garden as well as at home, he is pals with Penny kitten who is about the same age as him. He spent a lot of time on a long lead and harness (a pretty dog one) but at Easter he was 10 months and it was time to trust him a bit more. My old cat Polly (14 years) who I lost last year to kidney problems was black and used to wear a different coloured ribbon every day. Flea collars hurt her eyes and made her nose run and she used to do her best to loose the other sort. The only problem with collars is to make sure that if your fur-baby gets stuck somewhere it will come off so they don't hang. Sunny is on his second already. bless him.

I've only known one to get stuck and simply knew that because her name tag was gone but her collar was still there. Still haven't found the name tag yet or how it came off the collar.

I have 3 cats. 2 come in and out and 1 isn't allowed in. The first one (midnight) we adopted from the humane society in 2002 and he refuses to stay inside for the nice weather, I think this is why his original owners gave him away. We live in the country and he doesn't go far so it's no worries. The second cat (phoenix)showed up in our driveway in 2007 as a baby kitten, we fed it and it never left. The last one (doom) showed up in our driveway last summer (2008). We feed him and he won't leave the property. The only one that has a collar is the second one. The first one lost his in the field and when we found it, it smelt really bad. The last cat, we haven't gotten a collar for him.

We just have one cat, so there is never any confusion as to who he is! We have now had him for about 2.5 years. Never once have we even bought a collar for him! When we got him, he could still sit in the palm of my hand. He used to love to sit on my shoulder. Now, he hangs over the sides of my lap! He grew up to be quite a big cat. We didnt buy a collar at first because we knew he would grow out of it. We still havent bought one because it doesnt seem necessary. Im sure that he would hate it! He would probably play with it until he managed to figure out how to get it off! Besides, we dont want to spend any money that we dont have to. He is a strictly indoor cat, so we dont have to worry about him getting lost. I know several cats that have figured out ways to 'lose' collars. I am pretty certain they do it on purpose! But their owners keep buying new ones. It seems silly to me.

My cats are indoor cats however that doesn't stop lil kids from holding the door open for long periods of time and watching them wait for their chance to pounce outside and disappear. :(

Our cats always wear collars, more for their own safety. They are indoor cats so if they ever got out someone would know that they are a pet, not a stray. We just recently put tags on their collars b/c we moved. They went almost 4 years without tags, but are microchipped.

all three of mine violently refuse. i can understand the one though-he was previously my uncle's cat (i inheirited him) and suffered a neck injury previous.so,big no-go with him. my previous cat i had leash trained to go outside (he didn't mind at all),though i don't think i'll ever get any of these guys to do it.

My two kitties don't wear collars, when I brought the youngest home from the shelter, she pried the color off with her back feet, so I didn't bother putting it back on. When we(me and my hubby) take them out for walks, we put a leash on the youngest, because she'll take off and won't come back. The older one is real good about staying in the yard, he likes to roll in the dirt, and chew grass, lol.

I have two cats and they all wear collars all the time just in case if they escape, I hope people know they are somebody's cat and won't try to steal or attack them. And the main reason is becaues we keep them home, we need the collar to hook them with the leash so they cannot escape. Couple years ago, I didn't keep up the cats so they all ended up left home and they didn't come back, I was heart broken and I told myself I won't just leave them outside anymore.

No I dont mind putting collars to my cat just giving him food is enough. Those collars might risk his life. It is better to be free if I am a cat I think its better that way not to have collars
