It is summer here in the Philippines. It is really hot on day time even at night time. If you are on my situation, what will you used to cool yourself? For me, I am using electric fan. I am satisfied with what the electric fan can offer. I don't like to use air conditioner because aside from it can consume higher electricity, I easily got a headache if I am out from hot area then going to an air conditioned room or even the other way around. How about you?

I agree with you completely about the air conditioning! Changing temperatures so quickly - from the cold air conditioning to the heat of the sun - really affects me.
Growing up we never had air conditioning. We opened all of the windows and doors at night to let in the cool air. During the day we would keep everything closed tight to keep out the hot sun. It worked really well. We always had the help of electric fans to circulate the air. It still got really warm and humid some nights, but it was good enough! I never felt sick the next day going out into the heat!
Unfortunately now, I dont have the same options. I work in a building with air conditioning. It is always so cold in there! It doesnt make any sense. I go home and am tired and cranky because of the heat and my body not being used to it.
The only room we do have air conditioning for is the bedroom. We use a window air conditioner. My husband sweats really bad. If we only used fans, he would always wake up in a pool of his own sweat in the middle of the night. It is really gross! So instead we use the air conditioning so that he can still get some sleep to.
This way - using air conditioning in the bedroom only - we save a lot of money. We dont keep the room too cold - just cool enough to sleep well. And we dont have to pay a lot of money to make the whole house cool! I think people go overboard in the summer. If you give your body a chance, it will adapt to the heat! You cant go back and forth from hot to cold all of the time.

If it's not so hot, then I prefer to use electric fan. Because it costs less electricity. Besides, I won't get cold easily as the temperature will be the same indoor and outdoor. Whereas it's cool indoor when you turn on the air conditioner, but it's quite hot outside. Due to the temperature difference, it's easy for you to catch a cold.

We use both fan and air conditioner. We have ceiling fans in all our rooms. We only have them on when we are in that room. In the hot Summer, we use our air conditioner. We haven't used it much this year. We've been opening the doors and windows so it's been nice with just the fans. Our electric bill has been a lot less too. But, it's getting hotter so we now have to start using the air conditioner more. I like having the windows open better but it's getting too hot for that.

I prefer electric fan than air conditioner. The reason is air conditioner using high electricity power. It's not suitable in this recession era. I myself is not a cold-lover. I can't sleep in cold. Usually i start my electricity fan with timer for 3 hours. Although it's summer now, but midnight here is so cold. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

awww.... me too I'm here in the Philippines too. I would prefer to use an electric fan instead of aircon because aircons consume lots of electricity. The only problem I get with electric fans is that the wind coming from it irritates my skin because it's direct, unlike aircon wherein it cools the whole room.

I am an Air conditiner addict.I am not happy with the electric fan alone as Ir brings in only the warm air in the peak of the summer. And I have to tell you one more thing.I always like to have my electric fan too along with my Air conditioner. No wonder that my summer time Electricity bill always peak to a new level. But I can't help it.

i like to use box fans because i can move them from room to room in my house i have never lived in a house where there was air conitioning in it and i dont think i would like air conditioning in my home anyway because of two reasons 1.)it costs too much 2.) there are so many things that can go wrong and then it would be very expensive to fix them as opposed to the box fan where if the motor burns out on one of them you can jst go to the store and buy another one for about 16 dollars and you are getting cooled off again.

Although, where I live it isn't hot too often, we use a combination of the two. The air conditioner is used less often, just on those really sweltering days. But each bedroom has an electric fan for when we are sleeping. The AC always, always gives me a migraine...I can't even use it in my vehicle! Otherwise, I just sweat it out...ick!

Hot summers are unbearable, yes, here in India too. They might be worse in seaside states.Going by Science they say seaside places are comfortable but I had once been to Trivandrum, in hot summer and I was mad.Somehow Summer temperatures get me mad- though I was born and brought up in a hot place.Given a choice I would choose to live on snowy mountain. So, I prefer to be in AC. I have it in my office. I set the temperature to 20 deg C. This disturbs others as they feel chill coming on them. But I feel comfortable. The frequent changing of temperatures hasn't harmed me, and I want this blessing of the Lord to be with me.

Althrough I know air conditioner consume higher electricity, I still like using it. I can not bear hot very much. Maybe bcause I am a little fat. It is really uncomfortable that my dress is wet and stick together with skin because of sweating. I also use electric fan but sometimes it is not enough for me to cool myself when temperature keeps high. I think air conditioner make feel more pleasant.

I am using fan to get rid of humid condition.I think Ac is more comfortable than a fan.Affording AC is not a problem, but paying the electricity bill is a concern. Each and every year the temperature is increasing and now it is becoming very difficult to live with out an Ac.

I still choose electric fan, although there are many beneficial if you use aircon. I like electric fan better because that is the only one that I can afford and I am satisfied of the air it gives. Yes I believe so, when you are in an air-conditioned room and you go out and the temperature change to hot because you are not outside that room, what will happen to you, flu.

Its even more hot here in India. We have normal electric fans at our home.Fans are of no use. They just circulate the hot air which is present around us which makes the room even more hot.A fan will not circulate the air through out the room but an air conditioner(AC) will spread the coolness every where in a room.I prefer AC,because it will make the surroundings very cool and fresh,an ordinary fan will not give such comfort. But we have to bare the electricity bill in the summer. You see,we have to lose one to gain one...

Yeah, SUMMER is so hot that you can't help going out and burn yourself under teh heat of the sun. I prefer both actually. It depends on how I use it. I use air-conditioner during night time, when I'm sleeping. It gives me a satisfying feeling during my sleep but sometimes I would end up packed with all the blankets. Yeah, I also agree with that wherein I feel dizzy when I would suddenly go out from an aircon room to a normal temperature place. Example would be when I'm at the mall then when I go out, it feels like something's wrong with my head, I feel dizzy and I don't know how to describe the other feeling. I use electric fan when I'm just at home, sitting back, relaxed, reading or may watching a movie or surfing some stuff in my laptop. It's enough to comfort me on those situations.
