Why is the sky blue?

Ok, that's not really what this post is about. I am just wondering why it is that posts about such pointless and banal matters seem to get ridiculous numbers of responders. And often these topics the original poster makes no replies, no attempt to continue the discussion, just responses like "thanks for responding".
Although what bother's me most is I will probably get at least one response to this topic with a Wikipedia cut and paste about how light refracting in our atmosphere causes more blue light to get through than any other colour lending the blue appearance to our sky.
==== end rant=====

I have wondered that as well. All it does is encourage people to make those types of posts! I think I saw 3 or 4 different posts today about earnings being reduced. It bothers me that no on even tries to find an old discussion before starting a new one!
I must admit that I dont always respond to the answers I get either. Sometimes I just have nothing farther to add. I do make an attempt to at least rate the answers though.
Another thing that drives me crazy, like you pointed out, is that people will read the title but not the post to give a response! You probably will get a response about the refraction of light, even though it really has nothing to do with what you said! Someone once asked me if I was staying on the Canadian side of Niagara, even though I had specifically said in the post that I was!
One more thing that drives me crazy, while I am ranting. There are so many people who read the discussion and then comment. They wont bother to read any of the comments before them to see if someone has already said the same thing. If you dont want to read all of the comments, find discussions that dont have any comments or just a few! Sometimes people are typing the comments and someone else is typing at the same time. I understand that, but at least make an effort!
I feel better. Enjoy the refracted light today! Perhaps you will even get to see some red and orange tonight!

Oh I don't reply to every response either, if I have nothing to add I add nothing, but then again I try to make topics that encourage discussion and not just a simple answer and then move on.
As for not reading all the comments, well I usually read all the comments, but sometimes I feel moved to answer right away and THEN read the comments. Just so I can give my undiluted opinion on the matter.

SomeCowgirl it is so simple to contact myLot.
At the bottom of every page is the 'contact' link.
There is a drop down menu and if you go to 'other' you can ask them anything that is not already answered in the FAQs.
The queries about decreased earnings however are already explained there and in great detail too so there is no need either to contact them or to start a discussion.

derlilaStern,
The thing about it is discussions like the ones you mentioned on earnings being reduced is against guidelines, I think it would fall under the DON'T make a discussion about something you need to / or can take up with mylot. In the defense of these members that do, it is hard to contact mylot. I've tried to but I have to be a friend first, and I doubt they add me since no other member but Sharon_bucks for the Tasks is a friend. I know I started a discussion about contact info and got the correct link, so I'll have to find the discussion and reference to it.
Myrridin,
I hope I spelled your username correctly. I think that it's easier to not read the comments beforehand so as to not marr what you were originally going to say with other ideas.
To the both of you,
I do not think it's against the rules to use usernames in this context, but if it is I would greatly appreciate being told so, and would like to apologize beforehand.

The sky is blue because if it were green, we wouldn't know where to stop mowing.
There are people who simply want to post as many discussions as they can and choose questions that are at best, abstract. At worst, the phrasing of the question is so poor that I can't for the life of me figure out what they are actually saying or asking.

I don't know why the sky is blue but I'm glad it is because it gave me the chance to make my son understand that adults know everything (well all the things that they shold as far as kids questions are concerned). Here in Italy the sky is blue a lot and the planes fly over and leave a white trail behind them. When my son was small he asked me why they did and I told him it was becuase it's freezing cold up there. He asked how I knew it was cold up there and of course I told him...
I flew in a plane from UK to Italy before I had him so THAT'S why I know! He told all the kids at school that it's cold up there cos his mum knows cos she's been there
What was the other question? Oh that part is too boring sorry, I pass

Because the angels spray painted it that way!
I don't know why such posts get so many responses. Maybe because they are easy to respond to and don't require much thought? I think most users just want to post post post and not have to spend too much time thinking about a response. So if a response is too difficult or requires a lot of thought, they move onto a more pointless post that is easier and faster to respond to!

"Because the angels spray painted it that way!" I have never heard anyone say that before, but I LOVE it! I will have to remember that one next time the blue sky comes up in conversation! Thanks!

And we have a winner folks... the first responder to make absolutely no sense. Not only did he completely ignore the question actually posed in the topic, but his answer to why the sky is blue is wrong....
thanks for playing gigihpw... do play again sometime.

Well, beats me. (This is my comment on the issue of pointless and banal matters getting ridiculous number of responses.)
But at least you got what you want. A lot has responded to your discussion. Not every topic gets the same attention. In fact a lot of topic gets no response at all. I pity them, so once in a while, I visit topics with no response and give my 2 cents worth.

I don't think that's all that the discussion starter wanted, they also wanted to see how many people actually read the discussion, lol, which of course so far I've seen two who haven't... NOT YOU INCLUDED though, lol.

I wish I could answer that one for you, but I can't for sure. I can share some theories with you tho. IMO, a lot of people are just here for the money and want to bust out as many no-brainers as they can. Why bother to make real friends and actually use one's brain to either post a discussion that requires thought or respond to a discussion which would require thought?
Or - maybe that's really as deep as their thoughts get? Sad, but possible.
I'll be the first to admit that I normally skip past these types of discussion titles, but it was you, and as long as I've been away, I still don't remember you throwing around B.S. discussions, so I had to read further

It just wasn't here yet and I couldn't allow this to go on any longer I'm afraid. Here's your wikipedia link Myrrdin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffuse_sky_radiation
As for the banal and pointless discussions getting the most hits, it's the numbers game aspect coupled with people wishing to always take the path of least resistance. I rarely hit up those types of discussions but I do so ocasionally when I'm just not in the mood for anything detailed and feeling lazy. As for people that never bother replying with anything worthwhile, they'll never hold my attention for long at all.

Ok, the sky is blue because when the light go through the clouds, which is water, then it comes out the other side.....I have no idea why the sky is blue.
What I do know is why I reply to a lot of those banal discusions. I, like many others, enjoy talking about simple everyday things like what is you favourate colour, etc. I mostly read and respond to interesting matters and I try to keep my discusions interesting and intelegent...as inteligent as I can get (not very).
A lot of people like to just chat because they are lonely. I am not always in the mood for heavy thinking or discussing, rather small talk. No, not just to get a lot of posts, but because i just like to.
Hope you find out why the sky is blue

I must say that your discussion here has made me chuckle big time. I do feel you there, and sometimes this has become a wonder for me too. I think that sometimes members responding to such a question are just wanting to answer easy, simple answers and in a way, there are not much thinking to be done, and can tend to make someone relax. I do answer some simple questions like that too, and the enjoyment I derive is about the same, if not close to other sort of more serious discussions. Have a nice day, buddy.

Discussions like that tend to get a two fail swoop. They are short and meaningless, and then they say "thanks" and that's it. I know I've made pointless discussions before, but hey, all I can say is that I want to make money here. Then again, I haven't listed to those probably making more money then me who are staying on discussions such as these to make friends / get a good number of posts.
In my defense, I've made a few good discussions myself, if I do say so myself. (so maybe I haven't made any good discussions?).
In any case, I guess just let those who don't know learn, and those who know go on the way they want. They'll learn once they've worked their butt off and got nothing so many times, or they'll leave the site... maybe?

lol @ They'll learn once they've worked their butt off and got nothing so many times, or they'll leave the site..
If they don't take the advice offered them by so many including you in your GOOD discussions (who has suggested they are not???) then it's their own fault entirely. Those that do listen know that the advice offered is honest and for everyone's benefit.
I left a comment for you up top too

I like to be honest (or is the word also modest?) and say that I don't have so many good discussions. I came right down here first, even though I skimmed up there for responses. Sorry it took a bit to get back to ya, I'm reading a snippet online of a recommended book!

Wow, this discussion is exactly what you described. Pointless, with lots of responders, and with an answer for the sky question. Good job. Now, why is mylots' page background colored white? hmmmmm....

you seem bitter.. maybe those peoples' topics having so many responses got so many friends on line. they are helping each other in order to earn more. you should make responses than posting topics if you want to earn more. that's what i am doing

I am not here to earn more, I have a job for that. I am here because I like the discussions usually... but every now and then I get frustrated at the number of discussions that ask what your favorite colour is and the original poster never checks the thread ever again anyways. I make many more responses than I do posts, and I am happy with the amount I earn here. I wouldn't say I am bitter... generally... just frustrated.

It's the quality of the content that we get paid for, not the ridiculous one worded answers to "what's your favorite color" or something of the sort. I don't even have 400 posts, and I am less than a buck away from cash out. That is because I don't post meaningless things on here, I actually get conversations going. If the people who were looking to earn "big bucks" on here posted better content, they would make more money. But half of them don't even read the topics that they are posting to, as demonstrated in this topic!

I think these kinds of posts get a lot of responses, because people know they're out there, they know they can get silly, and no one really wants to THINK, so in order not to think, they try and stay away from overly serious discussions. There seem to be a lot of people like that out there, so such discussions get more respones.

I think it has many reason for that, maybe, they tags their discussions with many words, so others can easily search it, or may be the topics are easy to answer and users have an ideas about the topic, or may be those user have a lot of friends so friends' discussions would appear in their friends' pages. many many reasons. I though if I would make all of these tips I would get more responses, but unfortunately this don't happen to me, I don't know why too. I've one started discussion with many responses, and it was about real story of love happened to me, and I thank every one who responded to it they helped me very much, I think discussions should be from daily life basis and with real stories rather than imagining things, or asking about ridiculous things but, people have a right to say what ever they want.

Hey Myrrdin... want a tissue for your issue??? (that's a tissue.. NOT a white flag).
You already know the answer... people are trying to make money with tons of posts. They don't realize that a few well thought out responses, and continued discussions within one thread, will actually generate MORE money.
Of course, the ones who are into those more thought out discussions don't tend to be here for the money anyways.
I LOVE IRONY!!!!

The sky is blue because of absorption and scattering phenomena.Sunlight is white, that is composed of all the spectral colors (from blue to red). Nitrogen and oxygen molecules in the atmosphere is absorbing blue wavelengths of the solar spectrum and this gives the blue sky during the day.
