How much is enough and how much is not enough?

If there are five people staying in a motel room. And there are two beds in the room. How many washcloths do you think that the guests should be allowed to have in the room? The housekeeper said that we were only allowed two, since there are two beds in the room. Well, it is not enough washcloths for all of us. Technically, we all would need 10 altogether. But, I guess that would be too much washcloths to be handed out. Tell me when you are at home, do you use your face cloth as your body cloth as well. I don't. Being that I use a facial scrub on my face every morning, I don't use my body cloth on my face as well. To me that is nasty! So, shouldn't the motel policies be banned? There is not enough washcloths to our room. We need more than two. One housekeeper told me that the number of washcloths that are given out, depends on how many people are in the room. I know better now. I just buy my own washcloths. Is this motel rule a dumb rule or what?

I do not know if that is a dumb rule but technically you needed more. You are five and you needed at least five. But then you should have asked the hotel about their policy and freebies. And the motel should have also informed you about their system. When I and my husband went to Baguio City, Philippines we asked a lot of question with regard to the policies and freebies given by hotels. And since we were only two we had enough washcloths and everything. Our pay is worth the service we got. So just a friendly advice, ask them first before checking in. And also ask and inform them of what you want and what you need so you can talk and compromise. I guess I and my husband do not have to carry the way we used to do at home when outside. We did adjustments because we are in a different place. Because hotels have different policies of properties than what we have used to. But for courtesy purposes, I guess motels should pamper their guests and provide them what they need. They should also offer the right room or facility depending on the number of guests they have. You were five and I guess they offered you the wrong room. Even if they offered to you the right room, they should also be mindful of how many you are and how many items are there in the room they offered. I hope that won't happen to you again so that you will have a nice stay.

I think it should be based on the number of people in the room. Most hotels/motels won't let there be more then 2 people per bed in a room either. That actually also depends on the size of the beds. If it's 2 twin beds you are only allowed 1 person per bed. I think, as far as the wash cloth's go, it should be 1 per person, per day.

Yes, it should be a minimum, I agree. If we needed more than I guess we would just have to do without it, or have our own, I guess? I am not trying to get smart with you camomom. I am just trying to let you see how we are not receiving hospitality services.

Hi, camomom! We have 5 people in this room. And the beds are two beds that are doubled. It is two full sized beds. The room is called a double because it has two beds in it. So, that means from what you are saying is that we all should have 5 washcloths, per day, which is not enough. We need 10, which I know that they may not allow us to have.

I think at minimum it should be 5 wash cloths for 5 people.

I always ask for extra towels and wash clothes when I go to a hotel. I don't think that they ever give enough. I like to take a shower when I get in the hotel in the evening just to be fresh, but then again I also like to shower again in the morning. When we travel with our kids, we need lots of towels and washclothes. I wouldn't stay somewhere that they don't let us have extra towels.

good luck in finding an apartment cream! Then you will be complaining about having to do all the laundry that comes with a large family:)

That, I don't mind sunshine4! I have washed clothing for 4 to 5 peopple before. And I would not have a problem washing them all again. I am used to it. Bring the washing on! I am ready to leave this place!

Hi, sunshine4! I say the same thing. It is five people to my family. So, that means we all need two washcloths of each. Giving us a total of ten washcloths. We all have a face rag and a body rag. At this motel, they call the washcloths, face rags. And we are only supposed to get just two, depending on the number of beds in this room. But, that is not enough. If I am paying everday, then I should get as much as I would need. I will be glad when we all get out of here! It will be more than likely this month that we will leave. We are looking into this apartment as of now, I hope and pray that God allows us to move in it!

That's a totally dumb rule. But it's a rule so you might have to stick to it. I have been in those situations before, but they were always very generous with us. No restrictions. You might consider buying your own wash cloths and towels and laundering them at an off site laundry. That way you can have as many as you need. Just be sure to buy towels that are a different color than the hotel towels or they'll want you to turn those in!

Hi, beautyqueen26! That I will do. I would not buy the same color as theirs. I will amke sure that the wash cloths were a darker color. They would never take my rags that I bought.

This is ridiculous. Are you talking about just washcloths or towels too? What about pillows? I have NEVER had problems at a hotel, they have always been willing to bring me extra towels, washcloths, pillows, blankets, whatever. I wonder if it has to do with how pricey the chain is... or... is there a huge difference between a MOTEL and a HOTEL? When I have traveled anywhere within the last 6 years, I have always had an infant, toddler, or little girl with me. She travels well but we always need two beds and therefore extra things as a result. I have had some friends complain about not being able to get enough pillows or towels too! I really don't get it. My friend had her 3 girls with her, and two beds. That's four people in a big suite with two beds. I think they should have been able to get at LEAST 5 towels, one for each of them plus one for drying hands! And pillows? Don't people normally get at least 2 pillows per bed? With people sharing a bed, you'd think they would get 4 per bed! And this is even funnier!! When I have stayed multiple nights in a hotel, sometimes even when you put out the little card that says 'please don't change my linens or my towels yet, I am reusing them today', they change/make the beds and take your towels and give you new ones. You'd think that they could afford to give a person an extra pillow or towel when they are handing them out to me and changing mine right and left when I didn't even ASK. I don't change my bed every day, and I don't even change my towels every day. I mean they have to be hung up and dry before being used again, so if they are in a pile on the floor, they get washed - but I have taught my daughter to hang up her towels so now she yells at daddy if he drops a towel and leaves it there!

Hi, mommyboo! Yes, I am referring to washcloths. The man housekeeper told me that we are only supposed to have 2 because we have two beds in the room that we are sleeping in. And for the towels it is only two, that we are supposed to have as well. Whatever dirty I give to them, they will give me clean back. But in many cases, a few of the other housekeepers will not count my linen. They will just give me whatever they have. That then leaves me with having extra linen. So, they all don't follow the same work rules. You have some that are nice while others are by the book. I don't have enough most of the time, and that is why at times, I have asked for an extra washcloth and a towel here and there. And there was one time that a lady housekepper gave me a towel when I told her that I did not have one at all in my room. She did not ask for anything in return back either. She just gave me the towel like it wasn't nothing to it. It was no big deal to her at all. But for some of the housekeepers it is.. I think that your friend should have enough linen as well. She seemed to be getting the same treatment as we have. It is five people to our room and we only are alllowed to get two towels each. Which I think is silly! We have two pillows to the two beds that we sleep in. One time my pillow was swapped out when I left the room. The male housekeeper did this.. He did it in a slide way.. Long story.. And I don't change my towels everyday either. I will change them here every two to three days or so.. When I am home, I keep a towel every week. With them washing them over and over, it is not like I will end up with the same towel that I just dried off in. It is just ridicolous that we have to put up with this kind of hospitality! But not for too long, will we be putting up with it!

Hi, derry123! Yes, I disagree with this. And it is a silly idea. I wonder if these housekeepers use the same wash cloth for their face on their body as well. Why would someone want to use their face rag on their body. And once you use it on your body it has hair all over it, then to wash with it on your face is disgusting! We all need two wash cloths. It is cleaner this way. And people wonder why we stay sick. It is because of things as this!

Just in case I need it, I always have 2 washcloths with me...also I always have medium size trowels, because of any motel or hotel limitations... In many places they are giving an extra when I ask.

Hi, polachicago! Yes, from this situation, I will make sure that I bring my own towels and linens. Which I meant to anyway. This will save me a headache with the housekeeping..

Perhaps the motel room is supposed to have only 2 people in it? Is the motel charging for the price of 2 or 5? If it is 5, very likely the motel is operating against the guidelines in terms of the rental. For ease of management, in my opinion, it is logical to limit the logistics to the number of residents in each room.

Hi, whyaskq! Well, I heard that it is supposed to be only a ceartain amount of people in the room staying. We are charged $47.00 a night to stay in this room. It would be hard for us to split up a pay for seperate rooms. There are two adults and three under-age children. So, we all would have to room together. My kids will not be able to have seperate rooms. They are minors. So, we will have to do the best that we can until we move out of here.

any place i worked at,it was one per registered guest, not per bed. if there was more people in the room than was supposed to be on the sheet, they still had us give out one per. if the hotel was notified there would be guests of the guest staying there, then we added extra.

Hi Cream, I always take my own wash cloths and towels when I travel anyway so to me it wouldn't be an issue but if they knew five guests were staying they should have provided at least 5 rather than just the two because of the beds if they knew the numbers in advance, if they didn't two would be acceptable but four the correct amount really as I always use separate face towel to body towel. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi, suzzy3! We don't have bunk beds. The beds that we have in this room are side to side beds. They are double beds. Two beds to this room.

Hello my friend cream97 Ji, Well, under the circumstances, I would keep my house activities always seperated from motel. May be that I might require a place, which may suit myself, for that I might have to pay more. I think it is question of satisfaction level. What practices, I should have observed in 24 hrs at my own home only for my Nature's call, would have been abstract while flying from Delhi to Nyork ( compromised). This is part of life. May God bless you and have a great time.

when its a two bed room, the motel people should put up the rule that only two members should be allowed in the room. the rest of you should take up another room so that all can use the washcloths as their wish. whatever it may be, its not hygenic to use a motel washcloth as it may be used by many others too.. try to get one for yourself.

Yes, you are right! Even if it is washed in bleach, I still don't know whose body that rag was on. So, to be honest with you, I really don't need their wash cloths. I would rather just buy my own.

I believe they're just cutting costs... lol. I hate the policies too... Specially when you're only allowed to exclusively buy the food from their cafeteria and its so expensive, while you'll save more if you'll eat outside. I can't sleep having only one pillow, I need three, coz even if I'm with my husband I prefer when something's between my side and something below my feet... lol... but they won't give you what you demand either even if you pay them extra...

motels should look toward their guests convieniences but some motels adhere to silly rules which have been set up for their convience, like you said,it is better to bring our own washcloths.

I'm not sure how many they should give out, I think they should give according to how many people are in the room, usually if I stay somewhere with my family we'll ask for more and they will give them to us, just like towels, I always use two, one for my body and one for my hair and sometimes theres not enough of those. I don't use a face cloth, I use a facial scrub also, and I don't use a wash cloth, I use one of those scrunchy things. Thats what I would do is just buy my own, but then you'll have to find a way to wash them.

Hi cream97, Yeah, the best thing you can do is buy your wash cloth, save all this botheration with the stupid housekeeper, I think she thinks she owns the place. Tamara

Well Motels are trying to save and make money. Either they use a linen service, or they wash their own linen. They are trying to minimize whatever they can in order to keep making money. There was a point when I was living in an extended stay hotel for a while and I purchased (and washed) my own towels and face cloths. I did not want to try to argue with management over a few squares of cloth.

Yes,I have my wash cloth as body cloth as well.We can not use one cloth to wash face and body. It's terrible. I think the housekeeper want to save money to do that.Of course,I think the motel is lack of good sevice. But many of motels in my country also do that to keep cost.Sometimes it can not help but recieve fact.
