Food Shopping

Ok is it just me or is food shopping just one of the worst things you can do either when you are hungry or with a 3 yr. old? When your hungry anything looks good and you wind up buying it. But with a 3 yr old, ugh! I mean mine is a good child, but whenever in the middle of shopping always, "mommy, pee-pee", so I take her, then she just wants to play. Then like most little girls she is a princess, "I want this, I want that". Are all of them this much of a pain in the supermarket? (I mean don't get me wrong, I love these days, cause I know they will not last forever, but sometimes you just want to run in and run out, and you just can't)

Mine is also 3 and shopping has become a challenge. I get the having to go potty and she is in the "mine" phase. I usually go in the morning when it's less crowded, last week when I went there were only 3 other people in the store and she was able to walk with me instead of riding which made a big difference. I also let her pick out some things, what kind of soups, she also gets to pick a snack or two. Even simple things like the yellow or blue package of ham, she makes a decision and she feels she has contributed to the shopping experience.
Running in and out, I have to explain on the way there that she either is not picking out anything or she gets to pick one thing and the first thing she pics is what she gets, no switching 30 times.
Then there are the days when they both go with me on a weekend, 3yo and 5yo, that's an adventure.

I remember those days, lol! picture a baby strapped to your chest in a carrier and 3 little ones ages 3,5 and 6. the two older ones hoisting the 3 year old into the frozen food case while you are trying to figure out how you can stretch the money you have into a week's worth of food. i can laugh at it now. even to this day my youngest is 13 and she still manages to distract me in the grocery store. I despise grocery shopping!

So your older ones hoisted your 3 yr old into the freezer. I could only imagine your reaction.

Oh that is too funny. My brother and I did that to my younger sister a couple of times growing up. My baby sister was only like 4 or 5 months old. My poor mom was frazzled because she was outnumbered.

what I didn't mention was that I worked in the store part time and everyone knew me. it just doubled my embarrassment that I couldn't control my crazy kids. they thought it was funny to throw their sister in with the frozen bagels! kids...I was embarrassed of course but not surprised by their behavior.

Yeah, you forgot one....going shopping with your hubby. Mine likes to get in and get out. Usually that means we end up forgetting something. I have experienced the triple threat of going to the grocers while hungry, with my 3 yr old and my husband. Lovely family outing!! The end result is overspending (usually on junk), lots of bizarre priducts that your little one found interesting, and outta there without getting the majority of the things you came to get! Whenever possible I shop alone.....
Happy MyLotting!

I never had it that bad. Going with my husband actually he makes it a lot easier. He does the bagging, watching our daughter, pushes the cart. Only bad thing is I wind up buying A LOT of other things that I don't need, or wind up sitting in the house til it expires. (He just good for the babysitting duty.)

When I am with my nephew and nieces, it happens to me a lot... So caution, dont include your any children when shopping because you will definitely end up buying more than your budget because your loving them so much that you can never resist.. He he he,,,:-)

same here i've done both when ur hungry u spend alot more money, try shopping with 4 kids ages 14,11,10,and 1. u spend alot more and to top it off you go out of your mind because each child is putting what they want in the cart, so u have to stay on top of that as well as buy what you need for the week or whatever, i stick to just taken me if i can get away with it i claim it my me time just 4 me.

I have done both and neither is a good thing to do! lol. I have went in the grocery store intending to buy dinner (around $20 maybe) and end up spending $50. I have took my three year old nephew to the store and he thinks he needs/wants everything in the store. fun fun. lol. Have a great day!

I have done both and I dont enjoy either one. I always make a shopping list beofe going shopping but then i forget it at home, leave it in the car or I forget that it's in my pocket and end up buying alot of things I do not need because it all looks so yummy because I'm hungry. Being pregnant by the way it does NOT help the matter. Bringing my daughter to the store can at times be a nightmare. There are times she is awsome then other days where I wish I could have left her home!

it's better to go to the grocery store when your stomach is full, because if you are hungry, it seems that all the foods in the shelves wanted you to buy. but if you are full, you will not be tempted to shop anything, it's normal that you get crazy when you bring your kids at the grocery store, just like mine. they just point to anything they liked, and cry when it wasn't get. i love being with them, but i just don't bring them everytime i shop.

i remember when i was livin' on my own in aussie, the supermarket is the WORST place to be for me only coz i end up spendin' a whole lot more than i intended!! i can't help but go down every aisle and have a look to see what's available. even though i don't need that particular item, i might get it, JUST IN CASE. oh so many times i have fallen prey to that. or sometimes i would get things on the pretense that i will make an effort to cook somethin new or bake somethin' new. yeah...didn't work out too well either coz i usually tend to forget them once i'm home. it's a disease i tell ya! although i have to say that once i got a guy come up to me at the supermarket!! never knew such things happen in real life but it did...hmmm maybe i should post a discussion on this. hehe
