Okay I'm going to be very outspoken here and this IS NOT, I repeat NOT targeted at all people from certain countries....but I SORRY I HAVE TO SPEAK MY PIECE HERE.
Observation: This is not only my personal observation but surely the observation of many people. And that being...I happen to belong to many writers sites including Ciao (there are others like comparedby.us, Reviewstream, SharedReviews)..this as well as many other writing sites have been plagued by cheaters, clicking cartels, plagiarizers,...you name it. It has demeaned these sites and as a result penalties have ensued meaning that REAL hard working legitimate writers from certain countries have been penalized due to the country of origin they belong to AND NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN but simply being associated with the members from these countries who are the biggest causes of the problems. It has also caused many of these sites to change their policies over and over again as how they paid. I'm sorry but I'm about to name the countries involved....mostly Asian orientated countries where members are the biggest liars and cheaters...China, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand... and FOR WHAT?? TO EARN A FEW LOUSY CENTS IN MOST CASES?
The real main issue though is that I suspect many of the cheaters from sites from say Ciao, comparedby.us, ReviewStream have now come here and doing the same shitt..I'm seeing more and more cheaters, plagiarizers and sorry, sorry, sorry, but they come from the same countries that were/are banned from places like Ciao...Whatever happen to the ancient oriental stance of saving face, being honest, having integrity? While NON-Asian, I've studied Buddhism, Hinduism, etc...like don't these people from these countries have a concept of karma? Or are too many converted as Christians so karma is thrown out the window? And even if Christian...how about do undo others as they would do to you? To cheat, lie, plagiarize, make a fast buck (or cent) by unscrupulous means is NOT RIGHT...where is your conscious unless of course you don't have one.
Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT TARGETED TO ALL PEOPLE OF ASIAN COUNTRIES....but please do listen to the statistics....the biggest cheaters do come from these countries which is why these countries are being banned from so many sites....If things continue at this rate....how long do you think it will be that maybe MyLot will ban these countries as well? If you ARE from these countries.....fight!! Fight against the people who are making your honor untrustworthy in the eyes of the world.
Okay off my soapbox.

Pye...This is the most daring rant that I have ever come across here that goes beyond the boundary of mylot. When it touches other nations it kind of smells politics brewing within the literal world. Excuse me but am not involved in any of those writers sites you mentioned above except for mylot which I have been consistently involved for the past 3 years and have not been convicted of any crime like cheating, plagiarism etc... It is really very sobering to think of what these the so-called citizens of these Asian nations capable of doing all those cheating and whatever that has brought bad image to their countries being listed here. The actions of the few are very degrading to the majority of people from these nations and I have no knowledge that this has come to a serious matter which might warrant a ban for all people from these countries to participate in any sites and probably in mylot should it persists.
The truth of the matter must lie somewhere in the middle. The way we handle these issues in the international arena must be very carefully thought out. If we perceived as honest and forthright, I think have the battle is won.

First of all, I think Ciao could have run things better. When a person writes a review, it goes on "live" automatically, meaning it's posted right away, versus what some writing sites do is one submits work and it's reviewed by the site's staff....if they had done this at Ciao it could have eliminated this plagiarizing problem. I did happen to know many great writers at Ciao, and yes, from many of the Asian countries now banned/blocked from there. One writer wrote the most detailed reviews, that he was so much better than I was, I was a "fan" of his and enjoyed reading his work. Now he's blocked/banned simply due to him being from China...this off course isn't fair as Ciao is punishing all writers from those countries when they should have a better system and be able to block ONLY the offending plagiarizers...don't you think?

I gather from this that you are already fighting that battle. I asked one thing today, why is it that this one member started almost 80 discussions and does not respond on any other or very little of them, I realized one thing right now. He was an Asian. His English was not perfect. Reading these responses, I am saddened by the fact that people are so intolerant. And I am not justifying plagarism. But there was a comment made on commie Chinese and the english of these countries. Where are you taking this discussion. Is it about the incapability regarding english speaking of many asians or was it plagarism. And corruption for us is something we as young Indian, are fighting a daily battle with. So, you will find some form of it everywhere. It is not that the biggest Cheaters come from these countries only. Cheaters are there all over the world. Their field may be different. I can come up with two major cheaters who had scams in India who belonged to U.S and Italy. Another company who helped an Indian company in their fraudulent activities was a foreign company.
My point is dont generalize anything. You have made a very sweeping a statement. So this thing called conscience is something which the humans as a race have lost for a long time.

You made your points clear Anuraa. This topic seems to surface like a bad penny. By and large, the people who are fond of debating accept that there are Asian values and there are western values and that we will do our thing and they will do theirs. It is very unfortunate that Asians have been viewed as untrustworthy people by the western controlled cyberworld which is why this subject comes to light. I agree with you on the context of lack of proficiency in the language which has prompted a handful of people to resort to plagarism to earn a penny or two. But there are bigger cheaters in the more advanced western world than these marginalised sector of the Asian countries. It's hard to decide in these situations whether to laugh at the ludicrousness of it or to get mad.

There is always a steady stream of, mostly, newcomers who come to MyLot to tout their wares or treat it like PickJack or think that copying and pasting stuff from the Web is an easy/lazy way of making money.
Thanks to an increasing number of watchful members, MyLot is able to monitor most of these and they either don't get very far or they quickly realise what is good and what is not. It is unfortunate that most (but not all) of them seem to come from the Indian subcontinent which has caused me to think twice (and spend some time researching) before accepting offers of friendship.
These people are sullying the name of their race, not only here on MyLot and other sites but in countries where Indians happen to live. It is an ideal that everyone should aspire to, I know, that one should always judge people on their individual merits but, unfortunately, it is rarely possible in real life to escape thinking, even momentarily, "Oh, a young Indian ... hmmm!" Does that sound racist? Well, it is not! I know many people from the Indian subcontinent who live in our community, and I have great respect for them on the whole but I find that I tend to be much more wary of the younger members of the community because of the general impression I have of them from the Internet.

To be honest, I wasn't sure this discussion would still be here. I didn't realize the countries had now been banned from other sites. I knew some countries where PayPal didn't go were because of that, but not countries who could still receive payment. It IS a shame that the rotten apples have spoiled it for the rest. I realize a little goes a long way in their homelands since the cost of living there is so much lower - but, it doesn't justify ruining it for everyone else. It appears that ethics have deteriorated worldwide.

For one thing being ignorant about all those sites you mentioned does not count me as one of the culprits. I have only myLot to occupy my precious net hours. But i am saddened by the fact that my fellow countrymen from my beloved Philippines are involved in this unpleasant situation. I don't know anymore what to say...I only wish things are different...

Pye-
I can't agree with saying the statistics show that the largest plagiarisers come from these countries. My own articles were copied by an American of caucasion ancestory. I think that we can agree on the fact that plagiarism is occuring on these sites, as well as Mylot and it's costing all of us. I do agree that we all need to work together to protect each other's work, and try to put an end to those shamelessly taking another's work. It's just not right.

Yes, cheaters/plagiarizers CAN come from any country, but the real statistics at least at Ciao that the vast majority were from Asian countries which is why Ciao has a complete shutdown and blockage of Asian members. Not only did they plagiarize but would open multiple accounts. This unfortunately is punishing the legit, hard working writers there. One of my dear friends from China wrote the most exquisite detailed and executed reviews going..first class and exceptional....now he is blocked/banned simply due to him being from China. That's not fair is it?

Preach on sister!
What I hate is someone who either doesn't grasp the language and won't bother to use a translater or just doesn't understand the discussion. Their responses don't make sense. Either they're about something totally irrelevant to the discussion, or they're so broken English that you can't figure out what they're trying to say.

wow.. sad to admit that i come from one of the countries you've listed out.. i am also quite sad to be 'associated' with the 'lot'..
i luv being on myLot.. although not as active as i would like to be ..
i just hope that myLot admin will not 'generalize' and review whatever decision based on proper 'study' and 'judgement'..
and i really hope i will NOT be banned, just because i 'belong that region'.. that will be TOTALLY NOT FAIR...

It is very sad that we are seeing this happen more and more everyday. It as you say not fair to hard working real writers. But there seems to be no way to stop them. I think the reason they are doing this is because they can't speak or write proper english, so they have to steal from us. Perhaps if they had writing sites in their own countries like we do, then maybe they would leave us alone and cheat among thereselves. Also all of this goings on hurts the money that honest writers can make. We tend to give up on sites and move onto another site that we find, and then it starts all over again. All it takes is one person starting a link to a good site, then it is all downhill from there.

Thing is they will do it to earn a few cents. Did you notice anything about the countries you mentioned? They all have a very low standard of living and a few cents is worth something to them. That is why you don't see people from countries with a decent standard of living being guilty of the same things. They need much bigger scams to get involved in.

I am wondering if Nigeria and Bermuda have a decent standard of living when we do not find them in Ciao but in much much bigger scams.
I think scams are not restricted to the minorities, poor, deprived and unknowns. Look at the recent rogue conducts which has led to the downfall of the world economy and the many who had fallen on the biggest scams and hoax.
Nah, I just find myself disagreeing on what you have brought up here.
Cheers.

Hmm, well this explains the in crease of new members then. Seems like when you get a wave of new members here this crap starts to happen. And yes, I agree it is from those countries and not sure what they think they are going to accomplish. I love the ones where they start more than one account, form a friendship and then respond and rate their own discussions. Can anyone say split personality???
Sorry it gets you dear, but I don't think you should be afraid of ruffling feathers. Those who have been around here know and aren't offended, just a bit taken aback that people can't be mature enough here.

I have noticed that there are some countries that tend to have more cheaters than others here
but I have also noticed that not ALL people from those countries are cheaters
which is why i dont think mylot should ban membership from any country
we cant judge a country by a few cheaters

It is too bad that any group or country gains a bad reputation online. Three years ago it was people from certain African countries. I spoke up in a discussion and said not all, and that was the first, but not last, that someone had to take a piece of my hide. I also know that in some circles Americans are considered to be out of control. I think you are right. Those of us with morals will just need to stand up and do what is right.

I'm sorry to say but you are absolutely right. I have several good friends in asian countries and they are honorable people. Why should they be punished for what others in their country do? Why and how can these people do these things knowing that they will not get away with it for long.
They and others will be booted from the sites and have been, so what are they achieving? Nothing, absolutely nothing...except getting them and others banned from the sites.
I have been to several asian countries and I know the people for the most part do stand by the old ways. It's the young kids that rebel from it and do the wrong things. Not all of them mind you but some and that's what usually makes it hard for others a few that do wrong.
I'm with pye I urge you all to stand up for your written word and stop the ones that will... and trust me they will get you all banned from the sites.
Thank you so much pye for writing this. I sure hope that many of the honest people will join this crusade to get the bad people out of our site and others.

in some places,a few cents is much more than it is here..but neverminding that, yea i'd be pissed as hell if i came from one of the usual offenders and my countrymen (or women) we making it so we got blocked from everywhere.it's cutting their own throat work-wise.

I can't say that I've noticed anything at this site (because I have no idea where anyone is from) but I know at my own forums, I've had a steady stream of spammers. When I check the IP origins, they mostly are from some of the areas you mentioned -- I've tried to reason with the ISP of some of them through email and got absolutely nowhere with it. it was much easier to lock things down at my site and moderate it, than deal with them.
It's very frustrating and ruins it for the honest people.

You did good gal! That was great! I so agree. I try to treat everyone of every nationality with respect and consideration BUT I hear what you are saying and I so agree. It really rides on all of us too. And people from those countries that don't do these things are still probably being seen as cheats too because they come from there. If they don't like it they need to have a voice. Speak out and do something. I hope they do fight and get a clue.

i don't know what are those cheatings that this CIAO are referring to cause i don't do any against the rules before our country was banned. and i didn't know that it did affect US too with the new rules. at least you can still log in. cause we can't log in any more. anyways, i did make honest reviews. and they were rewarding honest reviews before and so though my reviews were not that good but still they were honestly made and not in any way cheated them of any thing. i didn't ask a bunch of people to vote me to earn more. and still it is not just few cents that i ahve earned it is dollars.
