My dog likes the bathroom!

This has gone on for a long time, although my husband thinks it's just recent. For no reason I can really tell, my dog likes to go lay down in the bathroom. My husband just realized she's doing this and at first he thought it was because of the storms. We had a storm the other night and she didn't go in there, and she's not afraid of storms, even though my husband wants her to be. Then he thought maybe she's smelling my son on that rug. He was here a few weeks ago, but she was doing this long before then. I think it's because it's cool in there. And, she's out of the way when she's in there. I don't know why she does it, and it doesn't really bother me any. I just think it's kinda funny.

I have to agree with most of the others, it may be that it's cooler in there. We had a large, hairy dog who didn't take well to the Florida heat even with the A/C on in the house. He was an older dog and he used to lay on the bathroom floor from time to time during the day and always at night. He preferred our bathroom for some reason.

My most serious bathroom cat also likes to lay in the shower when it gets extremely hot.

Is it a tile or bare floor, ours likes it because it's cooler in there. Dogs are smart they know how to take care of their needs if it's available.

The floor is tile, but she lays in the rug in there. I'm sure it's still cooler though. Of course she might just like the small spaces because she was laying in our closet the other night.

My rotwieller lays in the bathroom too. He likes it in there it's cool on that floor in there, with the water in the air and there is a vent in there. Most of the rest of the house has carpet.

Our kitchen floor is stone so it's usually pretty cool too, but I think she likes her little space in the bathroom. Sometimes she just looks so funny in there.

I would suspect that the reason you four footed friend likes that area is becuase it's cool and quiet and peaceful place. Just like us dogs like some time to themselves.

And she can just sit in there and watch us walk by all day. It's pretty funny sometimes.

Hey reiny! I do know that my cats also like the bathroom! I think that they like it because of the tile floors. I know that when it is hot that is the coolest room to be in! My cats that I had before Star & Luna also liked the bathroom! Maybe it is just an animal thing! They just like being in a nice cool room and out of the way where they feel safe and not bothering anyone!

Oh, she is definitely out of the way in there. Except over the weekend when my husband was in there, she started scratching on the door! I guess she thought he was invading her space :)

Invading her space!LOL!I think, she knows,it is the best place where she is not disturbed. And bathrooms are the place we seldom use in a day.She wants to be secluded,I think.Cheers!

My labrador likes laying in the bathroom, the floor can be quite cold sometimes so I think she may do it to help herself cool down. I have to be carefull when I have a shower or bath as well because they both try to get in with me lol They do follow me all over the house but love water so they keep trying to jump in with me lol

Oh that's too funny!!! She doesn't come in while we're in there, but the door's usually closed then too - for me, not always for my husband. The other day though, she did want in while my husband was in there, she was scratching on the door!

My cats do that especially in the summer, and also, in the winter because there is a floor vent where the heat comes out. One of my cats tends to do it more than the other two, and she likes the rugs. I believe there is something in the rubber backing that smells good to the cat. Maybe it is the same for the dog.

I didn't think of the smell of the rug - although it has to stink sometimes because I don't wash it too often. Which reminds me - I have to do a load of towels and stuff tonight, maybe I'll throw the rugs in too!

Hi reiny,I notice that dog's and cat's both love to hang out in the bathroom. My cat camps out in the bathroom all the time but he doesn't sleep on the tile floor, he sleeps on the soft bathroom rug. I don't mind him being in there except when I have to make a mad dash to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I almost always have to remove his massive cat body just so I can do my business and he doesn't like me to touch him when he's napping and he often bites and scratches me when I move him out of my way or when I step over him he attacks my legs . My theory to why dogs and cat's like to sleep in the bathroom is because they like to sleep in small semi-private enclosed spaces that are cool temperature wise. Cat's & dog's love bathrooms and they love to pester their humans while they are on the can also. My cat sometimes can open the bathroom door if it's not locked correctly then before I know it the door is wide open while I'm sitting there and the cat is like " Oohhh HeEYY!!!"..

I do think it's the cool, but you are right, it's something about their own space. She was crated when she was a puppy and I think there are times she does miss that.

If you have tiles I expect it is cool in there.Men are so funny arn't they think they notice everything and feel they need to find a reason for everything, thats why we love them.

Our dogs love the bathroom floor too and yes it is because the bathroom floor is usually the most coolest floor in the house except for basement floors.

Usually in the heat of the summer, Sable will stay downstairs a lot. She'll just be hanging out down there all day by herself. It is much cooler in the bottom level.

Maybe it's because of the cold tiles. My dogs used to do the same thing back in our previous house. But since we moved to a smaller place and the bathroom is also kinda small and sometimes wet, my dogs avoid our bathroom at all cost. At least that's what I thought. I found out a couple of days ago that my female dog has a habit of going inside the bathroom and playing with the water when we're away and we'd come back to find out that the door can be opened with a slight push and that's the reason why she could get inside. And this is the dog who hates taking baths. seriously.

Oh, my dog hates taking baths too, but you get her outside with a hose and she's all over that! We just laugh at her.

probably she feels comfortable there...our dog does almost the same, but in the libing room...he takes his own blanket there and spend all day long, if he can :)
