Do you think watching television is a waste of time?

I don't think it's a waste of time provided that you have finished what you were doing or what you have to do before watching television, I for one think that television is a great way to relax.
But I guess watching television soaps and other series which entails you lesser time for productive work would be considered unproductive.
At one point in my life, my mom and I was addicted to this tele-soap and we'd rush home to watch it and even get upset when there's some delay. I think that was pure waste of time because we no longer had time to prepare meals and our other family members would complain about us being stuck at the television for several minutes or so. hehehe.
This is why I have sworn off watching soaps anymore. I'd rather just watch some movie or something rather than to do it a daily habit.
What about you?

For me watching television is not a waste of time. It becomes a waste if you stay in front of the television and setting aside all the important things that you need to do on that time. Me, I watch television if I'm already done with my tasks. It feels me more relax when I watch TV. Watching TV without doing anything is really unproductive. There are times when Im watching TV while fixing something. So at least, Im still productive but time to accomplish is another thing. hehehe

I dont think that watching television is a waste of time. It actually occupies you and keeps you busy rather than being bored. I like to watch my certain shows and I make a point to record them when I am not home, but I do not focus my whole life around them. I also think it is a learning source for people, and with the news on TV it is also a good way to stay connected with the rest of the world

I definitely would not put my life too much around it. It is just informative for the other parts of the world. I live in a small town in a small state where we are somewhat out of the loop with things that happen on the coasts so the news helps with that effort. TV is very entertaining. Keeps me busy when there is nothing better to do, and helps to keep me outta trouble :)

I like watching television. It makes me relax and sleep. I like watching movies on cable or a DVD marathon during rest days from work.
The thing is I don’t have much time watching tv. After work, I eat and go to sleep.

I believe watching television is a waste of time under certain circumstances. Such as when it is still daytime and there are plenty of other more productive things to do. During the night or after waking up in the morning seems to be the most productive time since there is nothing much that can be accomplished.
I believe that watching things like soap operas and gossip is a waste of time. You change your schedule to watch a soap opera when 1 month after you will forget everything about that soap opera and most likely never mention it again. If you want to watch television productively, than watch programs like the news or something that has at least a bit of educational value.

It depends on why you are watching and what you are watching. If you are watching to avoid doing what u are supposed to be doing responsibly, then you are wasting time which can be better spent. If you are watching something silly just to be entertained, and all your work is finished, then it is tie to release tension and stress. And there is so much on TV that is educationsl and you czn learn something and really enrich your life!

Hello laydee!
I don't think that watching TV is a waste of time. I think that for as long as I have nothing to do, it's okay for me to watch TV. Or, if I am done with whatever I have to do such as chores or whatever, then it is fine to watch TV. I really do not watch TV on hours end so I think that is just about fine.

I think it all depends on what you're watching. I think it can be a waste of time, but it can also be informative. It can also be a great way of relaxing. I love watching informative shows myself. At the same time though I love watching show like CSI, Cops, and America's Most Wanted. I don't think those shows are a waste of time because they help me relax. I think if you spend to much time watching t.v., it can be a waste of time.

I wouldn't say it is a waste of time; I guess it depends on what it is you are watching and whether it is taking up time that you could be used attending to more important priorities.
Television can be entertaining, educational or mind numbing, it all depends!
Like everything else we do in life there is a need for balance; if all a person did all day was watch television then I would say he or she is wasting time whereas a few hours a day is good, cheap entertainment.

No I don't think so. It's like you said - it really depends on what we are watching and why we are watching in the first place. If it is being done to relax after completing certain chores or tasks then I see nothing wrong with it especially if it is not being watched for too long at a time. If it becomes an obesssion however then cleary it is unhealthy. Like all other things it is okay in moderation.

I can see eye to eye with you Laydee.Nothing is a waste if you know to handle everything properly. The total man hours spent on watching the stupid soaps can be turned into a great force that can jack up the economy of a country many fold.It is a crime to watch TV setting aside a constructive task at hand.Well after a hard days work when you are at a loss to do anything TV may come as a solace.Even then the intelligent programs are the most entertaining ones.

hey laydee!
i agree with you. watching television is a waste of time if it is done too much to the point that the person becomes unproductive. i was like that too. (i think until now only i don't watch tv but instead, watch dramas in the internet ^^) there was a time that i got addicted with watching television that i ignore my household chores. my mother would even get angry at me sometimes because of it. when i was in college, i used to study in front of the tv. even if i did get to study, i don't finish all my lessons because part of time is spent on tv. i just got out off the habit when i started working.
but the tv addiction was replaced with internet addiction. i can download almost anything so whenever i get home from work, i just relax and surf the net, watch some dramas and do other stuffs. but i try to do some house chores once in a while and take time to play with my niece and nephew. sometimes i get bored with the internet too. ^^

I think TV is a great way to relax and unwind and would not say it is a waste of time unless one it putting off other important stuff that needs to be done. I have friends who I would say are addicted to TV and they have the TVs switched on all day - and will sit there watching stuff that is not even interesting - that is what I would call addictive. - Derek

I have to say that I don't really watch that much t.v. I'm actually a little too busy for it or I'd rather hunker down and read a good book. LOL!!!

I do think it is a great way to relax at the end of the day. I definitely have shows that I love to watch a couple of days a week. That being said, I think it depends on what you're watching and how long you're watching TV. If you're watching the history channel or animal planet, you may learn something. If you watch FOX 24-7, you're likely to not learn much, unless you happen to catch the news.
Some studies have shown that watching TV right before bed can result in trouble falling asleep. I have found that to be the case on some nights. Also, TV is too addictive to some people, keeping them from engaging in healthier, more active activities, like going for an evening walk or weeding the garden.
I try to limit my TV watching to no more than 8-10 hours a week. It is usually less than that though, because I try to fill my schedule with other things in order NOT to be sitting home watching TV! LOL

I think it's a waste of time.News of the rarely heard news, like a gust of wind almost all the Korean films, music, games,Japan's "Super Magic",the Janpanese cartoon...so I quit on digital television.Networks can also watch television.
