I believe in both science and religion. We don't have anything unscientific. However, The theories made from assumptions and without well defined proof, we will not accept.. eg. Darwin's theory of evolution of life. Thanks.

Sorry, Darwin did not have a theory of evolution. In Darwin's time people had already realized that evolution was a natural process. Darwin's theory dealt with natural selection as the mechanics which drove evolution. If you are going to dismiss accepted scientific facts at least know what you are dismissing. The Darwin-Wallace explanation of evolution, the theory of natural selection, is based on three principles: 1) Individuals in a population differ from each other in the form of particular characteristics (the principle of variation). 2) Offspring resemble their parents more than they resemble unrelated individuals (the principle of heritability). 3) The resources necessary for life and reproduction are limited. Individuals with different characteristics differ in their ability to acquire those resources and thus to survive and leave offspring in the next generations (the principle of natural selection). http://www.nybooks.com/articles/22694 Which of these premises do you find to be false?

Of course! Mostly, religions have many hidden scientific facts. So, you can always believe both of them!

That depends on the the religion. A lot of fundamentalist religious beliefs are incompatible with scientific fact. It's kind of hard to believe that humans were created by an immortal being when scientific fact shows otherwise.

Of course we can believe in both. They actually complement each other. My Father worked with the Astronauts that went up in space in the 6o's and 70's and even occasionally brought them home. They were deeply religious or spiritual. I don't think you can circle the earth in a tiny capsule, and not know that there is a Power Greater than youself in charge, even if you are a scientist. Anthropology is proving the stories of the Bible all the time and it is a science. Carbon dating also proves the Bible. Shalom~Adoniah

We can. They work at different levels. Science is supposed to primarily deal with conveniences of life at the body level. Religion enters in to answer why there is still an emptiness even after Science(and by implication Technology)has given you or expected to give you all that the manipulation of the Physical World has to offer. There is also quite a bit of overlapping. That is about the story of Creation as seen by Science and as given by Religion. This where the rub begins. Then as you have rightly asked- about the conception of Reality. IOW: What is the Ultimate Reality? This is a search that is common to Science and Religion. Since does not have a final answer as yet, both can be considered equally probable.

If science or religion had all the answers, there wouldn't be the arguement. Don't worry about science. It doesn't matter whether they believe in God or not. They are walking toward God. Religion needs to realize that God is more than feelings. Everything about God always adds up as well. If it doesn't, it's man or you just do not understand God. Truth is more than just a belief. Some scientists also need to realize that some facts start off as a belief first then require further study. Science and religion really need each other. They will muddle through together and discover truth. Look at all the lessons learned from both sides along the way.

the ultimate reality is that inspite of so much progress in science in every field, we have not been able to impart life to a single cell, as of now! It is still unknown from where and how that spark comes…till then I believe in some power up there, yet I am open to all scientific researches and ideas too.

I dont see why not..but I suppose it depends on each person..some may NOT be able to believe in both for whatever reason and others are fine with it...

Hi Shardul! what is the ultimate reality - why this one silly! relegion is the exstistential framework which we try to pin our hopes dreams and fears on, whereas science is the quest for hard data to explain our reality/ies. Many great scientists have been deeply religious and others haven't - until something changes it looks like religion and science will have remain at loggerheads.

I can only speak about Christianity, but I don't think there's any reason for conflict between Science and Religion. In Christianity people take the text too literally, especially the creation story. I believe that the Bible should be understood as a culture's relationship with God, not a scientific facts. Jonah was not really swallowed by a whale, but that doesn't mean that the story is any less telling about God.

One has evidence. The other has none. Believe either or both, depending on how grounded in reality you are.

yeah both! science is the branch of knowledge that systematizes facts, principles metods and facts so with religion. Me as a catolic person i believe in my religion. Whatever it is i will obey, try to follow promptly and live happily ; true real situation in life. both are all ultimale real for me.
